The staff at the Channings were fantastic and incredible helpful. Our room was on the top floor and was very large with a great view. The bed was big and although it seemed a bit old was very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and overall we had a great trip.

The hotel far exceeded our expectations. The room was large by European standards, and the bathroom was beautiful, with plenty of hot water, water pressure and lovely large fluffy towels. The staff was friendly and very helpful. They went out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. It was by far the nicest hotel room we have ever stayed in in Great Britain.

There were little touches which other hotels wouldn't think to do but made all the difference. I did feel like I was their 'guest' as it said in their marketing brochure.

Located on the edge of the city centre, under ten minutes walk to Princes Street. Excellent staff, thoughtful, attentive and friendly. Comfortable and clean. Some of the rooms and the bar area are a little tired, and would benefit from a refurbishment. However, this is more than compensated for ny the staff and service.

I had stayed at Channings before and was very impressed hence the second visit. The hotel is very charming with excellent breakfast and good bar food. Location wise it couldn't be better, just a 10 minute walk into Edinburgh. The decor is very classy and comfortable. However on my first visit I had a room overlooking the garden which was stunning, I requested a room over the garden for my second visit but this was not acknowledged and the room I had was overlooking the road and not the same standard as my first visit which was dissapointing.

I had been in Edinburgh for a few days, staying at a hostel and went to Channings as a special treat. The room was lovely (if not exactly as pictured for a standard double). The hotel was beautiful in a quiet neighborhood- but walking or taxi to sites was required. I ate in the restaurant twice (excluding the breakfast) both times the food was good but expensive. However, Scott Keenan is the concierge at Channings and made my visit the best visit to Scotland I could have ever imagined. I had never stayed at a hotel with a concierge before (despite working as one myself) and so having the chance to use Scott's superior knowledge of Edinburgh was worth the cost of the hotel! I would stay again because the staff was superior to none! There was nothing to dislike, however it did require a bit of walking or taxi service to major sites- but a small draw back to being in a very quiet and picturesque neighborhood. I had expected to get a room with the cast iron tub and shower combo from the photos of the room I was booking. Instead I got a normal (small by American standards) tub with a shower, which was disappointing but still clean, comfortable and luxurious.

Friendly staff, good parking, good food at a reasonable price. We were 'upgraded' to a four poster room. Unfortunately the room was being heated by one small radiator which was wholly inadequate. The hotel did provide a small portable heater when asked, which helped but we had to huddle to keep warm. The spacious bathroom was let down by a lack of heating - no heating at all provided, not even a heated towel rail.

Quiet away from the crowds but close enough to walk into the center. Loved the building and history of it. Breakfast service was good but long wait till cooked and served out of order of arrival. Small irritation however overall excellent service from staff

This was our first time at Channings and we were very pleased with the ambience of the place and very pleasant service of the staff. The rooms were clean and welcoming and it was so good being able to soak in the very large bath. Breakfast was first class and the price of our rooms was very reasonable.

The central location - and the memory of the night we stayed there before we got married. I also like the style of the hotel and the common space on the ground floor has a lovely relaxed and warm feel to it, spread over several rooms, one with a delightful real fire. The building is classic and the staff are friendly and helpful. Not exactly a complaint because it didn't cause us any real distress but the Television had a loose connection and kept going blank. Also, the shaver socket in the bathroom would not hold my shaver plug. (220V side). Minor things which were just one of those things on this occasion and not the norm - (room 2). I'm sure, if I had asked, the staff would have rectified these for me. One problem with Channings, as opposed to say, the Bruntsfield Hotel, is the lack of parking. The 4hr limit means it's not possible to leave the car and walk into town for the day. You can pay for the four hours the evening before and therefore not have to bother about your car until 12:30, so if you're driving off before this it isn't an issue.

Staff were very friendly, service at breakfast good and efficient every day of our 5-day stay. The location is very convenient for the city sights in a quiet street. The atmosphere of the whole hotel with its period decor and furnishings was great. It was lovely to see the open fire burning every evening on our return to the hotel.

We were caught in the storm that hit Edinburgh last Thursday and could not get back to our home in Fife ( Forth Road Bridge closed and alternative routes jammed) Have used Channings previously for similar reasons - snow storms this time last year. Old world atmoshrer in rooms and public areas Convenience for my office and childrens` school.

It was our first stay at Channings and definately won't be our last. The staff were extremely polite and helpful, the room/bathroom were fabulous and the location was perfect for our stay. We explored an area we'd not been to before and were most impressed. Very easy access to the main City and also on a good bus route if required. Would recommend without hesitation.

Small boutique full service hotel comprising 5 terraced houses knocked into one , lots of stairs corridors nooks and crannies to create an interesting quirky feel . Reception rooms warm and welcoming. Very comfortable bedrooms very clean. Would look to return next time I go back to Edinburgh, the evening meal looked interesting next time we will try. Got a very good deal and thought it represented excellent value for money Would like to have more lighting in bedrooms , the low lighting effect did create a gloomy atmosphere in the rooms
