Stayed there from 04 - 06 May, fantastic location, right on the seafront, not to far from the shops & pier. Loved the old style lift in the hotel with the seat. Our room (number 21) was large & warm (didn't need to use the radiators, the towel heater in the bathroom did all the work!) & had a fridge in it... Also had a great view of the beach. I also liked the fact that our special requests were taken into consideration as my mother didn't want to be too far away from us in the hotel. Breakfast was also very good, the waiter that served us (I think his name was Lukasz?) Was very polite & friendly - ensured that we had enough frinks & toast etc. In our room, the telephone didn't work also there was a crack in the ceiling & watermarks on the walls underneath the windows. In our mothers room (number 19), the tv or telephone didn't work... Not very good considering the fact that she is in her 70s, what if she got sick in the night? How would she have gotten hold of my sister or myself? Why was this not checked before we came? When I complained to the receptionist I didn't think she was that bothered! I also didn't like the fact that housekeeping were asking if they could clean out our room despite the fact I had the do not disturb sign on the door.

Cheerful staff and good breakfast Wonderful ancient lift with grilled doors! The aspidistra on the staircase was dying from lack of water. I meant to tell Reception but forgot and am now feeling guilty...

The receptionist was very brusque, no welcome or information as to where and what time breakfast would be served. Asked for 2 Bacardi mojita's at bar and was told by barman if we wanted cocktails to go to the Cavendish Hotel. Very small closet consisting of wc and shower, hand basin was across the room next to the bed which caused problems for my partner who has medical problems. There was a large flourescent external light outside the window which you could not shut out due to broken curtain cords and worn lining. Checked out at 2200hrs, have emailed twice with my complaints and have yet to receive a response 10 days later!

I liked the hotel's position and the room was clean and comfortable once it was warm. The staff were friendly. The room was very, very cold when I arrived. I suppose the hotel can't afford to heat rooms to a comfortable temperature when they are empty but I do think it should stop them getting quite so cold by having the heating on a bit in rooms that are booked. After all, if you book, you do pay even if you don't turn up, don't you? The landing and corridor were baking!

The easy relaxed atmosphere in the hotel generated by the friendliness of the staff. A minor discomfort was the continual noise (day and night) - generator ? - heard in Room 11 - enough to be something of a nuisance.

Its location was why we chose it. The room cost was high for what was provided. Will make me think before booking again at the Chatsworth.

The only thing I can say was particularly good about my stay was the lovely view of Eastbourne Pier from the window. I booked this hotel because my usual b&b was not open over the holidays. When I arrived the reception area was quite nice and the girl behind the desk efficient. Unfortunately that is where anything good ended. Then I got up to the room the heating had been turned off and the room was cold, there was a very narrow single bed which was had and 2 very thin pillows which gave next to no comfort at all. In fact I only got 3 hours sleep all night due to the uncomfortable bed and the slamming of doors until 1am. The rest of the furniture in the room did not match and the cupboard under the sink in the room was made from painted chipboard and formica which was falling apart and badly chipped. The sink also had a black mark down it where the tap had obviously been dripping. The tv was on the cupboard next to the sink - surely a health and safety hazzard. The shower in the corner of the room had mouldy tiles and the shower tray and toilet were 1970's pink and aged accordingly. There was also a gap in between the tiling in the toilet and the carpet of the main room which could have been a trip hazzard. Then when I went to close the curtains I could feel the dirt and dust embedded in them. When it came to breakfast the restaurant was very pleasant and the two young people in attendance were helpful but other than the cereal and toast the cooked breakfast left a bit to be desired. Poached egg on toast should be very simple but the eggs tasted of vinegar and had bits of shell cooked in them. The only reason I did not complain was because I got the room at the last minute at half price and even though I do not think the room worth the £35 that I paid for it I would have been very disgruntled had I have paid the full price. I am certainly not surprised that there are no pictures of the single rooms on the hotel website.

Was only there for one night, but out most of it so really just a bed, shower, Was nice to get a upgraded room from single to double, f/o/c Didn't make breakfast so cant comment on food, But ideal location and on sea front and easy to find, shops and pier 1 min away, Needs a up-date, rooms are basic and on the tired side, found hair on bathroom shampoo bottles, and floor. Wasnt impressed with paying for room on check in, and not been told only found out when checking out, and wasnt given a choice to pay differently, Felt house keeping was trying to get me out of room before 11am, was knocking on door at 9am,

Helpful reception staff day & late. Accommodating member of staff I/C breakfast dining area. Overall clean and spaceous appearance. Good location for town & sea. Parking permits reasonable price. The lift - priceless! Went round & round to find an on-street parking slot. Breakfast: In trad English breakfast we had over-cooked or hard yolk eggs (whether poached, fried or scrambled) both mornings. However the boiled eggs were lightly cooked as we requested on final morning. Eggs are central to an English B'fast. We felt we should have be asked how we liked our eggs as a routine. This aside breakfast was a good experience and staff helpful.
