The Chatsworth is in a prime location on Eastbourne's seafront. The beach is just across the road, the pier is close by and it is an easy two minute walk into town. The hotel has an elegant external appearance and as you enter the lobby, an old fashioned lift with sliding concertina doors is the main feature. The hotel receptionist kindly upgraded me to a double room which had a good sized bathroom. Overrall the room was quite small and two people would struggle to find somehwere to place their suitcases. There are new 32" flat screen televisions and the bed was comfortable with large fluffy pillows. I had an excellent nights sleep. Breakfast was buffet style and the full English was very nicely presented on a piping hot plate. Fresh coffee was brewed for me and from my table, there was a lovely view of the stormy sea not far away. Staff were friendly and accomodating. To summarise, it was a short but pleasant stay Like many older hotels, the Chatsworth has been in a process of constant renewal. It really requires a thorough makeover, but a start would be to get rid of old fashioned bedspreads which are rarely cleaned, for more hygenic Continental quilts. The hotel could be a jewel on Eastbourne's seafront. If you expectations are not too high and the price is right, you will have a very pleasant stay at the Chatsworth.

It is very conveniently located for the conference that we were attending and reasonably priced for a group of people. My room had been newly refurbished. The arrangement of furniture was a little awkward but it was ok for a short stay. A luke warm shower and inferior orange juice at breakfast.

A beautiful building, with a warm and welcoming reception area. A lovely big room with a side seaview. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. There was some peeling wallpaper in bedroom. The bathroom was in need of updating. Bathroom window frame was in poor state of repair.

This hotel is a truly beautiful old and ornate Victorian building on the Eastbourne sea front. The staff are polite, friendly and accomodating and the service good. Maintenance of the hotel in general however, is very frayed at the edges, with - in some cases - cracked and chipped bathroomware, frayed wallpaper and greasy looking bedspreads. I feel that use of bedspreads should be dropped completely as they little other than bacteria carriers. General cleanliness (vacuming etc) could be better. The joy of staying at this hotel (and indeed It's sister hotel The Mansion alongside it) is the pure English heritage building and retained Victorian design and elagance and it's location. My son and daughter-in-law were also booked into The Chatsworth Hotel and upon arrival, were given a room which proved to be of extremely low standard. We pointed this fact out to the staff on duty and were immediatly offered alternative room(s) - even the hotel's suite was put at their disposal. My son and daughter in law opted however to select accomodation elsewhere in Eastbourne and the Chatsworth - to their credit - immediately refunded the full cost of the room. The staff were excellent - but the standard and state of that particular room (number 10A on the first floor) was totally unacceptable.. I feel that more attention to the presentation and maintenance of the rooms at The Chatsworth would most definitely be to their advantage.

A beautifully restored and classy hotel with excellent, helpful staff. It was particularly useful to have a hotel parking voucher (£1) which enabled us to park on the promenade roght by the hotel,

Generally helpful staff and pleasant breakfast. Comfortable and friendly atmosphere. Excellent location almost opposite the pier - though some of our friends found the location a bit noisy. Character building. Small room with tiny en-suite shower room. No face flannnel. Uncomfortable bed. No remote control for the television. Power cut on the Sunday morning. No car park - but street parking available for a modest fee. Note - parking in Eastbourne can be an expensive challenge.

Good sized room. Food very good and served quickly. Friendly and efficient staff The lift is old fashioned with 2 doors. It proved very difficult to get luggage into the lift and keep the doors open.
