Score from 492 reviews Wonderful
The hotel was right in the town centre, about two minute walk away, yet the street itself and surrounding area, was very quiet. On arrival we were given another room which better suited our need, even though there was nothing wrong with the first room. The room was immaculate and had a really comfortable bed and the bedding was clean and fresh. We were delighted to find that the bathroom had a bath and a shower. During our stay we were really well looked after and made to feel like we were visiting friends. We were provided with an extra early breakfast, because we needed it and it was both gluten-free and vegetarian. There was free, secure parking provided very close by.
Nothing, apart that we were told the hotel is closing down at the end of the month. Very sad!
Convenience and attentive staff, good quality and value.
Would have liked a shower in the room
A very old building with creaky floors. We stayed for 3 nights and were very comfortable. We were in room 3 and it was ample for our needs, electric shower with enclosure, tea and coffee making facilities and hairdryer. I would take my own shampoo etc next time. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was very good with a good choice. The shops are very nearby and the river and racecourse are about a nice 10 minute walk away.
Not suitable for people with walking difficulties as the stairs are quite steep and winding.
Warm, welcoming hosts. Good local knowledge, very helpful & friendly. Lovely comfortable 4 poster bed overlooking pretty cottage garden Large bathroom with shower over bath. Hairdryer & trouser press Quality wooden furnishings. Generous storage space Wifi included (best signal is downstairs) Generous breakfast in pretty dining area Separate residents lounge with computer available Historic house in quiet side street. 5 mins easy walk to the North Gate Free car park nearby Easy to walk round walls and city Easy access to shops and tourist sites Near to variety of eating houses Olde Worlde Pubs Excellent value for money How a guest house should be run
Home comforts, very helpful and caring owners, comfortable and nice touches like home grown apples and offer of fresh milk for tea and coffee in room.
My stay was very homely and I would certainly suggest Chester Town house to anyone visiting Chester. It is very convenient for the centre and there is an excellent restaurant 'Chez jules' at the top of the road.
Excellently situated within Chester walls, it's beautiful 1600 townhouse. We had 2 single beds joined, so large bed and very comfortable on either side of the join. It was very hot, so we appreciated having a fan in our room too
The smoke alarm was beeping in our room, when I asked the owner to sort it out, she said "either take it off, or I can give u batteries to change", I wasn't impressed with either option, as the ceiling was too high for me to reach without balancing on a chair! We put up with the beep in the end as we couldn't open it! Also, no toilet roll in the room, which u don't notice until u need it - not happy about that! No shower either, it was roasting hot and we couldn't shower in the morning, a broken unit was on the wall and the hose, curtain etc had all been removed. Finally as we were leaving (and had already paid / given keys in to a staff member), we said goodbye to the owner who simply barked "have u paid ur bill?". There are plenty of other places to stay in Chester, and we won't be back to this guest house x
The location was excellent. Close to train station, shops and the race track. Good breakfast. Owners were very pleasant and very helpful.
Room could have been a bit cleaner. Drawers next to bed had crumbs and hairs in.
So close to tourist information, good restaurants, town walls, national bus stop. Excellent full English breakfast and a charming, friendly and helpful host - Mrs. Val Bellis.
Cannot think of a thing
Location, property, owner were all excellent.
Very warm welcome. Comfortable and clean room. Excellent location for access into Chester town centre.
guest house was really central and the owners were very nice.
The rooms were a little dated and the bed was uncomfortable.
Very handy for walking to Central Chester and the National Express stand.
Finding the street by car and unloading baggage. We needed to make use of a nearby car park before walking the final short distance to the Chester Town House.
There is everything to like about this guesthouse.
Some slight late noise at weekends due to late night revellers going home from the city centre.
The house was very comfortable and we were made really welcome. We had a little difficulty finding the place, but once found, it was very central. I had a little problem with the bath/shower, as I cannot climb over the edge at the moment, but I blame myself for not making it clear that I had that problem. Mrs Bellis and her assistant were most helpful and I would recommend this guest house.
It was a very nice stay and a great host lady. She was waiting for us because we arrived at 20:30 and she provided us immediately with cough medicine for the first night. The next day she helped us to get an appointment with her doctor. The guesthouse is old but charming. Breakfast was a pleasure. Perfect cooked after our likings. I can highly recommend the Chester Town House to other guests.
our second stay here and will be back again next year
The room was beautiful, comfortable, and peaceful. There was no noise at night, though we were close enough to walk to the town center- walk easily! The hostess/owner was the perfect lady to welcome us. She was calming, sweet, yet efficient. I'd go back again The breakfasts were fabulous.
the only problem was the room key: the lock was quite old and was a little fiddly to get in.
