The hotel is tired and old, we did not enjoy it at all. There were tiles in the bathroom hanging off the wall, the windows looked liked they had not been cleaned in months. When at the bar we were given dirty glasses which we had to take back. The level of service and care with the staff we had was very dissapointing. For a 4 star hotel we would not recomend that at all

The location was good and the property/building was pretty from the outside We weren't particularly impressed with the overall experience. In fact, we were quite disappointed. When we arrived at the hotel, there was nobody on reception to greet us and check us in. We had to stand in the reception calling the main switchboard number before a member of staff rushed in (smelling very heavily of smoke). – Although she was very helpful when she arrived. The room was extremely dated in terms of decor and significantly different to the impression that the exterior of the building represents The double bed was actually 2 single beds pushed together, therefore the centre of the bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable (I think there was a wooden barrier in between the 2 beds/mattresses) therefore we had to spend the night at either side of the bed from one another - Not ideal for a couple sharing a double room. We used the shower before we went out for the night, and once we’d used it we were unable to turn it off. There was a constant steam coming through all night, and even after we’d closed the bathroom door the noise was coming through loudly into the bedroom We used the spa facilities the following day, and although this was more pleasant, the sauna was very poor. There was a very cold draft coming through the top bench of the sauna! And there was an inch gap at the bottom of the door allowing a further draft to protrude through. There was no water facility in the sauna to create the heat, therefore we kept having to go to the drinking water machine by the pool to get water for the sauna stones. Very disappointed with the overall experience.

We have stayed at Crabwall several times although this was a number of years back. The standards now, are not what they used to be. The last time we stayed the staff were very atentive and made a fuss, this time it was a simple morning or night. The hotel seems to be in need of repair, tatty carpets, paintwork chipped, even the snooker room was a mess with one cue and the balls fall on the floor and not in the pocket, even the lovely fire was not burning and the staff appeared to be in their own choice of dark clothing and not a uniform etc. We have great memories of Crabwall Manor, we had a nice time but we feel for the price the standards have certainly slipped and could be improved. Thanks, Mr/Mrs Latham.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Food good. Nice grounds and countryside setting. Would recommend as a venue to meet and dine after makeover. Would like to try restaurant for meal with friends. Decor tired, evidence of water leaks. Management have done their best with a hotel that needs a refurbishment. A little expensive considering tired decor and evidence of water ingress. Would recommend with reservations

Room size was brilliant and spa was lovely. Breakfast was very tasty!! Overall, it was exactly what we needed and great location both for Chester and Cheshire Oaks. Really enjoyed our stay. Breakfast service was not great - a little slow. But that improved on the second morning. We needed a bottle opener, of which there must only be one in the whole building. The second time I had to use a key/my teeth to open my bottle as no body brought the bottle opener up for me after my calling down to room service. Room service was often not answered. Room itself, although lovely, was lacking in facilities we felt. Some drinks and food were over priced, but this was exepected. Hotel couold do with updating to make it as grand as it obviously once was.

Location, historic appearance, quality of the architecture, large bedroom. It was clear that our bedroom (and, indeed, that area and pasage of the hotel) was in the middle of some sort of redecoration. The bathroom looked as though someone had been working on it that day! Breakfast organisation was not good: no paper napkins or cereal spoons on the table when we arrived. Service was noticeably disorganised: our cooked breakfast was slow in being ordered, even slower in being delivered (other tables who came in after us received their breakfasts before us), some other guests looked frustrated. Surely it would be better if each member of staff had, say, 5 tables to look after rather than all mixing in together which inevitably resulted in things being overlooked or done slowly. Why have music at breakfast and dinner?

We stayed at the hotel to celebrate a 60th birthday, the staff were so friendly and helpfull, nothing was too much trouble. The food was also very good, service in the restaurant was good, the hotel itself is very charming and full of character being an old building. It is very convenient for the city of Chester, but far enough out to afford peace and quiet, we will be returning soon. Our room was very comfortable but the general decor of the room and some areas of the building could do with a revamp, this is in no way a complaint, but an observation.

Location/outside appearance/spa/breakfast food and staff at breakfast We were expecting 4 star staff and accomodation but were disappointed the hotel was in need of redecoration and the evening staff appeared to run on a shoe string. The 1st room offered looked onto a courtyard full of weeds, the 2nd had a dangerous rip in the carpet and the 3rd was ok but had a big stain on the carpet and wall paper comming off the wall. We wouldnt put up with this at home so why put up with it at a 4 star hotel and the prices charged. The staff at breakfast were mature and proffessional however this couldnt be said on the evening.there wasnt enough staff as there wasno one on the bar. One had to ring reception to get a drink where upon someone who we later saw in the kitchen accomodated us. She also lit the candles on thr tables but only at our request. She would not extend herself to light the fire however as this was something that wasnt done.the hotel looks great from the outside I am afraid was tired and run DOWN.it is my view that if customers were able to check it out before boooking then you wouldnt have any unless you reduced your prices to reflect its standard.

Staff welcoming, keen to help and friendly atmosphere. Helped with taxis into town and so on. Enormous room - if you like a big room, come here. The facilities are nearly due for a face-lift and there was a slight shortage of dining room help during the breakfast 'boom'.

We did not visit the spa. The staff were helpful. The first room offered was cold and heating not working, a bare soul- less room. We chose the 3rd bedroom offered. The carpet outside our bedroom was torn badly, a corridor window was dirty and cracked, the fire door squeaked loudly. In the bedroom 2 curtains were off their hooks, a window catch was missing a screw and wobbling, there was no security box and upholstery fabric was worn/frayed. The fireplace mantlepiece in the bar was coming away from the wall and attempts made to cover the gap with plastic flowers. I could go on.... This hotel is definitely not 4 star. I hope my comments may be helpful as this hotel is sadly in need of maintainance.
