Our stay at Crabwall was a gift from our daughter. It is years since we have managed time away without the younger children, but when we read some of the reviews we were disappointed and not exactly looking forward to the trip. However, when we arrived we were very pleasantly surprised. Firstly the location is beautiful - and wildlife abundant. The hotel itself oozes character and history - huge stone fireplace, high ceilings, cobbled areas - a calm, stately and yet friendly feel about the place. Our room was large, bright and airy. The bathroom had a luxurious feel (huge bath and 2 sinks, plus separate shower). The bed was firm and very comfortable. From what I could see of other rooms, they seem to be individualised. The spa was very well equipped, clean and bright and relaxing and when we went, not too busy. We had breakfast, lunch and evening meal and enjoyed all – plenty enough choice for us. All staff – from hotel and spa were very friendly, helpful and trustworthy (unfortunately we left a portable dvd player behind in our room and to be honest we didn’t think we would get it back. But we were delighted when we were told that the housekeeper had kept it safe for us). Two weddings took place over our 2 day stay but this did not impact negatively on our stay at all. The celebrations took part at the other side of the hotel and we didn’t experience any noise issues. We had a lovely, relaxing and memorable stay at Crabwall and look forward to returning in the future. The hotel isn't pristine and needs some attention re general decorating. However, it doesn't need a complete overhaul and whatever the new owners decide to do with regards to this, I hope they manage to combine functionality with traditional style and so retain the unique character of Crabwall.

We stayed at the hotel as party of a wedding party, the staff were very friendly and the wedding was a great success! The upstairs of the hotel is in need of re-decorating, the bedrooms where extremely large but alittle run down.

It was a shame that some of the rooms are tired and needing a lot of decorating, but once that is done which I believe is under way by the new owners it will have beautiful rooms for people , I must say that it was comfortable some of the rooms were in bad state

Upon arriving at Crabwall manor, the outside looked lovely and picturesque, as where the surrounding gardens. Some of the staff were very helpful. And as we were there for a wedding, the food for the wedding breakfast and buffet was lovely. Unfortunately the good points stop here. As we entered our bedroom we recognized straight away that it was a dark, small room and there was two singles beds instead of the double we asked for. There was extremely noticable stains on the chairs and on the dressing table. The carpet and walls were very dated and looked grubby. The windows were unclean and dirty around the frames. And the bedroom did not lock from the inside. The bathroom was dark and dirty, especially the rims of the bath ( thr grout was black!) The toilet did not flush properly and the safety rail in the bath was loose.l Aswell as this the bathroom door handle was cracked and hanging off. All the communal areas in the hotel were dated, grubby and tired. Wallpaper peeling off in the breakfast room was particularly bad as well as dints and scratches in the wall in the room were the wedding ceremony was held! The whole hotel looked like it needed a lot of money spending on it! It was more 2 star in some rooms than 4 especially considering the rate per night. Drinks prices were ridiculous (2 vodka and cokes for £13.50! I paid less in London) It definitely put a downer on our time at ours friends wedding and we would definitely not stay there again. After complaining on departure, I am still waiting for the manager to contact me, five days later. However, after speaking to other guests, it ruend out our room wasn't the only disappointment.

Grand hotel with good facilities at a reasonable price It is very dated and good do with some modernisation. Beds are also not very comfortable. This is also true for the cot and children's extra bed. All of us ended up sleeping in 1 bed Would recommend for a single nights stay. Not for longer

The swimming pool and the countryside views. The staff when we had a problem were helpful. Room that needed updating and had a shower that didnt work as we found out in the morning. We complained and were told that they would find an alternative room. When we approached the new room there was a loud knocking noise, were told it was the extractor fan from the restaurant and would stop at 9pm. As we were going to be out for a meal with our young daughter until after 8pm we accepted it as we didnt want to move again as we would have been in 3 rooms for a 2night stay! We returned at 8.30 and settled our daughter, unfortunately the noise continued until 9.40 which wasnt acceptable. The heating wasnt working in the bedroom and bathroom, although in the bedroom they did provide an electric heater, the living area had a craked pain of glass, a warped window this caused a draft and again in need of revamping. We noticed the lack of information in the rooms and in the second room no fire alarm instructions. On the first morning there was a fire alarm it was burnt toast! We chose the hotel as we had our wedding reception there 7 years ago and wanted a relaxing break! Would return if rooms were refurbished and if the price was right.

I really enjoyed our stay - staff were great and very accomodating, We are gluten free and the staff arranged a gluten free breakfast which was very nice. Spa faclities were fab. We got a deal from the internet which meant that the price was almost a third of the full price which was excellent value for money. The room had an extra adult bed with a partitioning wall which was perfect for our daughter The room needed some work. The bathroom floor had holes in it and the side of the bath was cracked. I would not have been happy to pay full price due to the repairs needed in the room also that breakfast was extra. The whole place really needed a good lick of paint but I think they were in the process of doing it so well done!!

The staff were excellent very helpful and friendly. Spacious room. Excellent spa facilities Hearty breakfast Size of room The location was quite isolated now wish we had booked nearer to Chester as we didn't want to eat in the hotel both nights. The room, decor, hallways and communal space were very tired, run down and every carpet needed replacing. Our bed was 2 bases pushed together which was horrendous.

great location, we love chester and my wife loves chishire oaks so we combine a nice city break , and shopping. we thought the hotel and spa facilities where great the only problem was with restaurant / bar staff, they seemed a little inept and seemed to struggle with basic formalities, wasn't all that busy yet couldn't cope, we waited ages for simple things, butter to with a roll, wine was ages coming(waiter forgot) , breakfast was no better everybody waiting ages for toast/coffee and fill ups on the buffet, shame really all seemed nice people , but really needed organising better.
