A 5-minute walk from Ambleside and a mile from Lake Windermere, the largest natural lake in England, this charming guest house was originally 2 separate Victorian cottages.

Staff were extremely helpful
The guest house is absolutely lovely with all the commodities. A beautifully decorated, very clean and spacious four poster room. The breakfast sumptuous and very friendly hosts.
Everything ...exactly what I hoped my experience of Windermere would be like .
all of the experience
the shower - but this was compensated for by the wonderful bath!
The cleanliness and peaceful location and excellent choice of breakfast, this was our fifth stay here.easy access to both bowness and windermere.
good location excellent breakfast comfortable clean rooms would stay again
It was a wonderfully quaint place to stay and our room was lovely at the top of the house. It was a wonderful experience as we do not have accommodation like this in New Zealand. The owners were lovely and they did a wonderful breakfast. We were also given a nice cuppa on arrival. Not far to walk to either Windermere or Bowness. A very pretty area.
The stairs to our room were steep and there were quite a few of them. We were advised of that fact by the owners when I made the booking, though I probably didn't realise how many there were. Other than that there was nothing we didn't like.
Everything about our stay was wonderful, it was my partners birthday and they even decorated our room with birthday banners :) The four poster room was beautiful and the breakfasts were lovely. Great location as we were only a short drive/walk to everything. Great holiday! Thank you x
Very nice comfortable bed and breakfast. Welcoming cup of tea and biscuits. Heather provided us with a anniversary cake which was superb. My husband Geoff and I had a lovely holiday enjoyed the lakes and facilities on offer. The inclusion of swimming at the local hotel was a bonus.
Breakfasts were excellent, friendly staff, ( although we only met the lady of the house Heather ) nothing was too much trouble.
Two broken windows in en-suite, tap had to be turned on at least two mins before use to get warm water through, very poor water flow from the washbasin, tv was very small. Room3.
Tea and coffee replenished daily
Everything was perfect. Location, room very clean, breakfast was fresh and ample and staff very nice. Would definitely recommend.
Very friendly welcome, breakfast ok, nice choice on menu, rooms well presented and clean , good nights sleep
We had an attic room which was very comfortable but the bathroom sink was very awkward to shave in as the mirror was on the wall at the side and very low the room wasn't made for a 6ft 3 man, and the beams in the bedroom leading to the bathroom were very low my wife(who isn`t tall) and I kept hitting our head on them, the shower was very difficult to control would run very hot then very cold within a few seconds so gave up and had a bath instead. and the extractor fan very noisy and wouldn`t switch off.
We went for a short break and was not disappointed with the guest house or the location. Would certainly stay there again.
Made to feel very welcome. The place was absolutely spotless !
We enjoyed our visit to the Chestnuts as it was very homely & central to everthing we needed. Breakfast was perfect & tasty. Heather was very helpful with any questions we asked. So we would very much recommend the Chestnuts for staying in Windemere.
The breakfast was lovely and you also had a choice. Bed was big and comfy. The location was good as I can't walk far and the town was only 5 mins away. The hosts were very helpful and made you feel welcome.
Nice warm welcome, lovely and clean and comfortable, good location.
nice and comfortable room . nice breakfast
Over our travels of the past seven weeks would have to be the best B & B that we have stayed in. Great hosts in Heather and Nigel. Very comfy bed.
Great stay. Awesome breakfasts. Free parking.
Most hospitable host who went the extra mile. The standard of accommodation is very highly rated. Well situated.
This place had a friendly and warm welcome. The room number 1 which we stayed in was so clean and the bed was comfortable. Nothing was ever a problem for the Heather and Nigel. The food was excellent, it gave us a good start to the day.
Heather was an excellent host, ready to help at all times. Our room was lovely, and spotlessly clean too. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Chestnuts and would highly recommend it to others.
Our room at the chestnuts was lovely. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was clean and luxurious. Heather was very welcoming and the breakfasts delicious. Would stay again.
The tv on the wall was a bit small
