Dating back over 500 years, the 4-star Mercure Southampton Centre Dolphin Hotel is the oldest hotel in the city and still has many original features remain including Britain's largest bay windows.
Score from 590 reviews Good
Everything about our stay was great, would definitely stay again. :)
Food was excellent, and very central to all the places we visited during our stay. Staff were helpful and always available. Good sized pool/spa. would definatly stay here again
The wifi was very temperamental at times making planning on the iPad slightly challenging.
Pleasant staff, nice grounds
Dreadful food, appearance is dated and needs a good lick of paint..
I booked my parents in for two nights, average age 85. They were put in a room near the night club. The first night they were constantly disturbed by the noise from the club and corridor. Second night they were so tired they got some sleep. They liked their bathroom but found the room quite small for two.
Loby could be freshened up.
The food was tasteless and overpriced. The swimming pool was situated a good walk from the hotel.
The overall ambience and grounds - and splendid rooms.
The restaurant was a little old fashioned - in manner and style.
Everything ran like clockwork and nothing was too much trouble. Grounds are beautiful and the food was excellent as was the service.
Amazing grounds, beautiful building and interesting history.
Poor/weak WiFi connection.
Surroundings, layout of hotel, menu/food.
Bed - springs coming through mattress. Early check out - 9.30am !
Clean and comfortable in an old manor, lovely grounds
really enjoyed the resturant and the informal bar. Rooms good size and clean.
WIFi wouldnt connect due to the hotel being full not critical but a bit annoying
Lovely drive in down the entrance road..........and great facilities
A business conference was being held......Engineering of some sort and when in our room heard some bad language, when our window open
The grounds, setting and building was imposing
One member of staff a young breakfast waitress was very rude. On arrival, we weren't asked if we wanted to dine in the restaurant, any details about where the facilities were such as leisure club. I would not recommend...
A beautiful setting for a leisurely night's stay before embarking on a cruise from Southampton. After waking up refreshed it is only a short drive through the city to get to the docks and board the cruise ship. We have used Chilworth Manor twice now, and will do so again.
Nice park around the hotel, decent pool, good restaurant
Old furniture and smalles bathroom ever, even everything I had in Japan
Good location, nice surroundings.
The restaurant was not cosy, the waitresses were friendly but were not concerned...The room was much to hot and as we slept on the groundfloor , we could not open the windows as there was no security locks on it. The breakfast was not hot, nearly cold and poor. Sorry, I have been there before, years ago and it was much better !
The spa very good. Room clean. Grounds very nice .
We have stayed before that is why we went back. Will not return again. The restaurant dress code for dinner is smart casual. People in shorts Tshirts and flip flops. The menu in Restaurant same as bar menu very strange. It seems that they cater for single visitors and conference people. Breakfast not worth 12.50. Disgusting even have to make your own tea or coffee from machine. Check out 9.30. this is ridiculous.
Free use of pool. Nice grounds surrounding the hotel.
Too expensive for what it is (especially considering that breakfast is not included). The new block added to the back of the hotel had none of the character of the main building. The bathroom was small and in need of an upgrade.
The whole thing
the Wi-fi is slow
only a basic sandwich on that night not even a basic pack snacks my children had no food until the morning, food poor?
1]We liked the proximity to Winchester,Peppa Pig World and Portsmouth. 2]The room was comfortable if not a bit cramped due to the extra bed for our small child. 3]The garden is lovely and our toddler loved running around in all the space. 4]
1]The breakfast was not relaxed at all and we did not like the self service option as the dining-room was very busy!Would have liked table service. 2]The bathroom was rather small. 3]The pictures in the room were rather 'dated' and uninspiring.
Wifi dropped out more than on
Excellent leisure facilities and free wifi Room was good proportion. Staff very helpful
Room too hot Room - over the kitchen and a bit noisy early morning
