This is a lovely market town with individual shops, and friendly staff. We also did a fabulous walk along the Cleveland Way to Rievaulx Abbey and back.
There is a diverse choice of restaurants in the square, and several pubs/hotels. We had fabulous food at The Feathers Hotel where we stayed, and Bantams Restaurant.

A lovely town with great access to many places including Thirsk and Byland Abbey, not too far to coast and Yorkshire Moors.
A busy market town with great places to eat day and night.
We ate at La Trattoria in the market Square and in The Black Swan the 2nd night. Porters coffee shop, great atmosphere and super scones

What a perfect location with so much to see and do within a short distance. Great food establishments in town from the Fish n Chip shop to what we think is the best Indian we've ever visited (& we live close to Bradford). Three lovely pubs that are all different & we even find the locals a friendly bunch too.

We spent almost a whole morning in the castle where there was much more to see than we had thought. The birds of prey centre nearby was also very enjoyable. The are a good range of shops and several places to eat.
Stilworth house is in the heart of Helmsley, an absolutely gorgeous town. Our host Carol was wonderful, the breakfast was amazing. Our room was perfect for us and it's situation in the centre of town meant that we could pop in and drop off any shopping etc. Carol gave us excellent recommendations including things to see and places to eat. We absolutely adored the town and are planning our return (hopefully with other family members!). Can highly recommend this wonderful b&b.
Very peaceful and quiet stay. Pets are weocome.Laura our host was on hand if we needed anything. A phone call or text to drop anything off. Very accommodating friendly lady and her son Spencer is a credit to her. Highly recommended.short walk into Helmsley town centre or the open air swimming pool. ( booking online is recommended prior to staying). Hoping to stay again in the near future.
The Royal Oak at Helmsley is central to the attractive town and a convenient place to explore from. Bearing in mind that this is a modestly priced pub and not a 5-star hotel, I was perfectly statisfied with the facilities and would happily stay again. Similarly for the evening meal of fish and chips - nice and reasonably priced. I would happily go again.
The location was great - near to the square in Helmsley. Hosts Monia and Tony were fabulous and provided a lovely atmosphere. Breakfast was in the coffee shop and literally had choice of anything - fruit and yogurt, scones, bacon butties and drinks in abundance. Room was beautiful and very comfortable. Loved our stay and can’t wait to stay again.
The location within a five minute walk of Helmsley market place was excellent. The room furnishings were in real wood rather than the MDF type found in most hotels and matched the mid 19th century building which was very well presented. The breakfasts had a varied menu, we tried a different one each day and all three were excellent.
Food was excellent, we had dinner and Sunday lunch (lovely lunch on Sunday, big portions, delicious meat)
Our room was big, with a large queen size bed and a separate large bathroom. Lovely toiletry’s .Water was replaced daily as was the tea/coffee etc.
Helmsley a very pretty small town and ideal location for touring /walking.
Lovely cottage in a lovely setting. Very close to Helmsley for shopping, restaurants etc. Very peaceful. The cottage is very comfortable with good beds and comfy sofa. Nice, modern decor throughout. Lots of attention to detail.
Dave was very helpful and friendly. We would definitely come back here.
Lovely place in a nice town. It is quite large but didn’t feel like a huge hotel. The room was very well insolated so almost no noise. Breakfast was very good in the beautiful pub.
The trip up and down to the room is not for the faint of heart or the weak of leg. This hotel is made up of a collection of buildings with steep and narrow stairs. No elevator!
Room was fine and comfortable. Top of the hotel and at the end of a corridor so quiet. The hotel is in an excellent location to visit Helmsley and the surrounding Moors.
Excellent location in the middle of Helmsley. Good facilities in the kitchen - with some tea and coffee. A well-equipped bathroom. Plenty of towels. Comfy beds
Easy booking process. Great hosts. Lovely cottage with everything you could ever need. Excellent location for Helmsley Town centre and North York Moors area.
Fabulous location in Helmsley, wonderful host, lovely room with a fabulous bathroom - perfect for preparing for and after an ultra run event on the moors.
Lovely hotel overlooking the square in Helmsley. Our room was great and had everything you would need including chocolate 😀Food and service was excellent
