Staff really helpful Toilet didn't work Ordered newspaper that never arrived Spa is poor. Steam room didn't work, a sauna would be better which you could go to with your partner (ie not one in men's changing room and another in the female changing room). In fact all that was available to us was a small cold pool. Loud disco kept us awake most of Saturday night.

Within easy reach of Staffordshire showground(you should advertise this fact) comfortable rooms which allowed dogs, staff were friendly and helpful the food/drinks menu was very good if a little expensive. I would take advantage of the sp/pool next time, but one of the best things for me were the grounds outside to walk my dogs. thankyou Just a bit noisy in my room 206 where i could hear the train go by which we are not used to, but this is only a minor thing

I liked the location as I had a business meeting nearby the following morning. The decor was tired, bathroom is in need of modernisation. Had silverfish on the floor in the bathroom!

It was clean and in a convenient location. Price was competitive and the hotel met our expectations. It seemed strange, that given the size of the room, (very large, with a bay window), that the en-suite was so small. It could have been twice the size without affecting the room size.

I will certainly stay here again. The gym is lovely and is deserted in the early mornings. Breakfast is fine and the room is decent sized and warm. It would be easy to nit-pick but if putting little things right meant increasing the rate I know which I prefer. Decent room with bath and shower. Decent tv. Kettle. Big bed. Warm. Nice bar with sky sports. Free with in rooms. Good breakfast. Well equipped gym. Little swimming pool. Free car parking. Train station next door. Lots of uniformed staff. Swipe key cards. How to improve? Biscuits in rooms. More towels. Vending machine. A bit more cleaning time.

A very sad hotelin need of refurbishment. Very poor quality of decoration.Pool very dirty. In our room the toilet only worked if the top was removed and you manually operated the workings. In the morning the heating failed in our room meaning we were unwilling to take a shower with temps outside -6. The manager did slightly reduce our tariff but I would have preferred to pay for a full use of the hotel.

The room was lovely and the hotel has a nice ambience. We thought the food - both evening and breakfast - was expensive and ate elsewhere locally for a fraction of the price.

Only 2 points I would like bring up realy the heating in your hotel was at times unbearable radiators in the room could not be turned down and were on full blast, and the other point is the length of time I and my friends waited for our food on ordering and the time between courses and I ordered a coffee in the morning which took 20 minutes to arrive other than these points everything was excellant.

The room was spacious and comfortable. Staff were helpful and attractive. Not a complaint, rather a few suggestions. The room service menu was quite limited for main courses and I found the prices to be quite high for what you get. The wifi signal was ok most of the times, but sometimes dropped out or locked up for no reason.

First and foremost the helpfulness, friendliness and politeness of staff. In our room: the modern floral pictures and an openable window (not a feature of our previous hotel). We liked the village of Penkridge within easy walking distance with interesting small shops. Climbing so many stairs to get to our room – there is no lift and I am semi-disabled. The noise at night from neighbouring leisure facilities.

Proximity to friends we were visiting The hotel was noisy and so diifficult to sleep. Room was too warm despite turning off the heating. Access to the room with a buggy up three flights of stairs (no lift) was very awkward. Breakfast service was poor in an overcrowded function room. Insufficient staff.

The hotel offers a lot of facilities but if you want to eat in the restaurant I recommend you book early. I didn't and ended up eating in the bar area which wasn't the most comfortable. Also, the service is a little bit like Faulty Towers....hit and miss and generally a great stay

Location - good stopover from Hampshire to Lake District. Loved the fact that the bath filled up in about 1 min - lovely and relaxing after a long drive. The breakfast was superb, filled us up for the whole date. Very good quality. The rooms were a bit shabby and run down compared to other Mecure Hotels, but it was clean and the bed was comfortable.

The staff were very helpful and polite.breakfast was exe'cellant value. We stayed at a travel lodge prior rooms. Mercure was 17 pounds cheaper but far superior and when we go to Alton towers we will use the hotel again. Baths are a little worn. Great value, better and cheaper than travel lodge. Spa a lovely extra and breakfast excellent and the staff were very helpful and polite.
