Location. Breakfast was good.
Room was basic and really needed decorating very dated and gloomy doors in corridors were scuffed, this could be a lovely hotel just needs new decor, brightening up and outside area needed a good tidy and new plants.
Comfy Clean Good Value for Money
Shower - pressure was a bit hit and miss Bedroom facing the car park and whilst trying to sleep cars were reving engines in the car park.
Staff very helpful and friendly
The bedroom and bed were good
the bathroom needed replacing. Mould on the walls, toilet leaked all the time, you could hear every flush from other rooms
Location was a good choice
Didn't find staff particularly helpful.bedroom ok bathroom dated needed some attention to detail.black mould on taps.Sparce with toiletries and tea making faclities. Leisure facilities dated. Couldn't find anyone to ask questions.
Cleaning of the room. Poor staffing level in leisure facility. Chips are rubbish.
FOOD WAS VERY GOOD BIT OVER COOKED
SMELL OF DRAINS IN BATHROOM, TRAINS THUNDERING JUST PASSED THE WINDOW ALL NIGHT. BAR TOO EXPENSIVE POOR CHOICE OF BEER
Have stayed here before, but first time in this part of the hotel, was nice but with no lift carrying luggage was awkward up a number of flights of stairs.
Quality of breakfast was disappointing, having to ask for drinks and toast which took quite a while to arrive, extenuating circumstances as the dining room had sustained a leak overnight may have been a contributory factor to this
We stayed in the older part of the hotel, so our room had some character, the food at the hotel was very tasty and our waitress was absolutely lovely.
The view from the room was of the new leisure suite roof.( They have tried to hide it with a nice mural on the glass). Although clean, the room décor is looking tired.
The breakfast was excellent
The car park towards the swimming pool needs urgent gardening attention everything very overgrown and looked unsightly
The room, the food, the parking, the service.
I wondered if the drinks were watered down. No optics, and the Rose seemed very thin and tasteless. Just a thought.
Decor is very dated and outside of hotel looking run down. Bathroom definitely needs updating too Gardens are full of weeds What a shame there is no air conditioning
enthusiasm of staff
the price of the breakfast
Large comfortable room
Heating was intolerable no sleep possible
Good Hotel, pleasant stay for Business and would stay again.
Location was great and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
What let the hotel down was the cleanliness of the bathroom, are shower leaked down the shower screen flooding the floor. The bathroom was outdated, and the front of the hotel at the entrance was covered in cigarette butts.
Staff were friendly and helpful Liked the small pool and sauna
Very expensive breakfast Cold room on basement level, very dark. My sister paid same price for room on floor above, which was much warmer and brighter
Room was clean and comfortable Friendly helpful staff
Price of breakfast £13.95!!!
Friendly welcome and staff were very pleasant and helpful. Quiet location and good facilities.
We only had 1 hand and 1 bath towel so had to ask for more. En-suite a bit shabby and very difficult to get temperature correct on shower. Room smelt a little musty and found someone elses flip-flops under bed so room hadn't been cleaned properly.
The room was cold. The floors needed hoovering. Only 1 towel in a double room. Bathroom dirty. Hair in plug. Dirty windows- could not open window. Poor standard of hygiene.
Service and ambience in general areas good, excellent breakfast.
The bathroom was well below the standard of the room and public areas, and although functioned well, badly needed upgrading. Staircase between floors likewise grubby, worn and stark.
Not enough towels or pillows for 2 guests. Food was awful. Would not go again
Freindly staff, nice food.
Strange odour near the bar area, was exactly the same 12 months ago, apparently something to do with the glass wash. Also an endless stream of people coming into reception/lounge area to buy passes(?) for the gym next door.
The hotel is bang opposite Penkridge train station and the mainline Virgin trains zoom past every 25 minutes. Nightmare! No sound proofing windows which would ease the noise of the trains. The hotel is dreadfully dirty. There's bird droppings, cigarette butts and tree branches all over the front porch area which looks hideous. The hotel is dated, tired, scratched and marked old paintwork everywhere, an old style room with an appalling and broken bathroom. Dust in the air vents and all in the chinaware. Window was broken and rotting in the bedroom and wouldn't close properly. The shower door was broken and after a shower, all the water leaked and flooded the bathroom. Cracked bath and very bad sealant work along the bath which had gone everywhere apart from where it should've been applied! This hotel is MASSIVELY overpriced and appalling value for money. The only reason we stayed here is because the Holiday Inn Express in Acton Gate was fully booked (a far nicer, larger, modern hotel.) Upon check out, the computer systems were down and the staff were unable to print me out an invoice. Won't be returning here again and for £80 a night NOT including breakfast, this Mercure hotel should be ashamed.
Friendly and helpful staff. Good food in comfortable surroundings. Good location of hotel (only 3 minute walk from town centre yet "out in the country") Good parking facilities. Good leisure facilities, particularly the swimming pool. Quiet hotel - no noise from road traffic or railway.
Although we requested a call at 8.00am we didn't get one (but it didn't matter in the end as we were up just after 7.00am and left the room at about 8.15 - so it was possible that the call was made, but rather late.)
