Brian,
Torpoint
Looking out across beautiful St Ives Bay, this Edwardian hotel offers bright, modern rooms and a restaurant serving freshly caught fish and local produce. It also has free Wi-Fi and free parking. Some rooms at the Chy-An-Albany Hotel have lovely sea views, some also with a balcony. All rooms feature a flat-screen TV, tea and coffee and a modern tiled private bathroom. Originally 3 Edwardian houses built for local sea captains, the hotel is well-placed, just a short walk from the beach. St Ives’s harbor, art galleries, restaurants and bars are just a 10-minute walk away. The art-themed Lighthouse Bistro serves a menu using local vegetables and Cornish cheeses. With great views and local artists’ work on display, there is a selection of wines from around the world. Hotel Rooms: 40

Really nice breakfast. It is nothing special. Exhausting walk up a steep hill to the hotel.

Excellent Devonshire cream tea and bar food. The bed was the most uncomfortable I have ever encountered anywhere in the world. The room was very cramped with a very limited view of the sea. We were most disappointed in the hotel. If we had checked the bed before unpacking we would have cancelled our booking and left to seek better accommodation elsewhere.

The location and view. Access to car park We had booked for two nights, Saturday and Sunday 2&3 July. We returned on the afternoon of Sunday 4 July to enter Room 42 to find that someone else was in our room. Our clothes and personal items had been removed to Room 27.We had been moved from our original room, Room 42, to Room 27, without our knowledge or having a simple courtesy of being informed. Whatever internal reason for this occurrence, this intrusion of privacy, a cornerstone of all hotel practices, should not have occurred without our agreement.

Clean room, location Bed was rock hard and pillows flat and worn out. Squat little double room where the curtains wouldnt close properly and the shower just about trickled out. Car parks front and rear were always full and a nightmare to find somwhere to leave the car.Staff were friendly and did their best, but mainly young girls who really didn't have a clue what the meaning of 'customer service' meant! Full enliglish buffet style, products looked good but just cold by the time you got on your plate and back to table. Second day ordered poached eggs from kitchen, one just cooked other raw on top. Both myself and partner had bad tums second day. Complained about the bed and was told 'give you a discount next time' There won't be a next time!!!!

Really helpful staff - giving advice on how to get to where we wanted to visit. Breakfast and dinner service very good and helpful. I felt the cost was on the pricey side but we had impending flights so I had to firm up before leaving for the uk so took this one. We stayed in comparable hotels in the sw uk which were not this expensive - this would be a factor if we were returning to St. Ives.

It was close to town and the walk down was pretty with good views. The breakfast was good with a lot of options. The Wifi didn't work for the whole stay and the walls are pretty thin and so the noise from other rooms can be a bit annoying.

Hotel staff were friendly especially Sarah who made us very welcome. The location was close to all ammenities and the beach making it a perfect place to stay. Breakfast was excellent. Wide variety with good healthy choices. Very noisy as we heard people walking around their rooms but its not really a gripe as it was an old building and understood why. Woken one morning when the dustmen collected the refuse as we were situated at the side of the building.

The reception before 10pm was very good & friendly. However after 10pm the person at the reception was less than friendly. I had to move my car to the parking at the back and wasn't really explain properly where that parking was... Also when asking question to the receptionist, it really seemed like I was bothering him. Very very unfrindly - This person needs to learn to smile!!!!! For this reason I will not come back. Also note that the sink is situated practically above the loo which makes things a little strick when you need to sit on it...

Breakfast was very good, excellent selection, ell cooked and well presented. I have to be honest about my thoughts which is something I very rarely do. This trip was for my Birthday from my partner. We have both been spending many hours building up our own businesses so time together was the important factor. On arrival a young lady was on the telephone 'chatting' so we waited until her conversation ceased, we came to realise that the hotel was run by young staff, chatting and at times, quite jovial laughing together. It would benefit from an older, more senior member of staff to oversee the running and professionalism of the hotel. I am a mother of a daughter who is in the restaurant trade and enjoy young company, this was disappointing.

Its a beautiful location and is only a 10 minute walk from St Ives town and the beach and even if you never left the hotel grounds you would always find something new to look at in the acres of gardens and woodlands thats on site.
