Set in a Grade II heritage-listed building, across from Eastbourne Pier, Claremont Lions Hotel offers magnificent views out over the English Channel. There is a traditional restaurant, cozy bedrooms and friendly service. The individual rooms at Claremont each have tea and coffee facilities, a hairdryer and alarm clock. All rooms have a private bathroom, and some have refrigerators and wonderful sea views. The delightful Compton Restaurant serves traditional British cuisine, using fresh local produce. Overlooking Eastbourne’s seafront and beach, the restaurant also offers world wines and cooked breakfasts. Just meters from the lively Grand Parade, Claremont Lions is set in a distinctive Victorian building. Eastbourne Old Town and scenic Downs can be reached in 25 minutes’ walk, and the lively shopping areas are a 10-minute walk away. Hotel Rooms: 62

We liked the seaview and the cooked breakfast was ok, you could get full on what was on offer. The location to town, shops and bars was good. Where do I start the hotel is very dated inc the rooms and the layout of bar and reception was wrong and we did not feel able to relax with a drink in the hotel. The double room was ok but overcrowded with furniture. Electric socket was hanging off the wall in the dining area. Grumpy staff at breakfast time. The Saturday night we got hardly any sleep due to what we think was the hotel bar next door playing very loud music to 3 in the morning and lots of people shouting. Also in room above us we could hear all the footsteps and movement rather loudly. Thought this would be a romantic relaxing break for us but certainly didn't come home relaxed, couldn't wait to leave.

When visiting Eastbourne, the Claremont Lions is one of the best spots you can sleep as far as location. It is located straight across the pier, and very close to shops. Location being a big plus, the hotel facilities are poor and we do not believe is should be rated 2 stars, far sooner 1 or 2. The staff were excellent and very friendly. The beds were very warm . The sea view was wonderful. I had a stomach ache from the breakfast the following morning. Lack of lifts to the third floor.

Very friendly and helpful staff. And a real effort to make a creaky old seaside hotel as comfortable as possible. 'Wet room' type bathroom but I know it's a problem with limited space.

Location is perfect Besides the location, this hotel is the crappiest you could think of in such a place for that kind of money. Not even clean. Looks ok from the outside... inside looks as if it hadn't been refreshed for the last 50 years. Furniture are shaky. etc. ...

The staff were very friendly and wanted to please, this very unusual these days. All the restaurant staff were very helpful and the food was plentiful and varied. I would certainly stay with you again. The lift is small for the size of the hotel compared with the new one to the ballroom.

“The rooms were clean and comfortable; breakfasts were well cooked and presented, with plenty of choice; the staff could not have been any more welcoming, friendly or helpful, over and above the normal service standard - a real pleasure to stay here and would definitely book here again.” Catherine, New Malden, surrey |
