The room layout was very good and compact...the huge double bed invites you to use it as a sofa...it wad lovely...
Noise from bar users down stairs.
THE COTTAGE STYLE ACCOMODATION AND THE ORANGERY ALL DECKED OUT FOR CHRISTMAS THE FRIENDLINESS OF THE STAFF
No free wi-fi.
Very nice hotel, good food and location. We used to stay here regularly on business years ago and were always happy
Today's policy is to maximise how much money they can get out of you!! £100.00 per night then £15.99 for breakfast!!! There are equally good if not better hotels nearby for 2/3 of the price. wifi did not work in our rooms and was poor everywhere else. We were also charged for a night that we did not did not use as our plans changed (one of us had the night refunded the other was refused!) We will not be using this hotel again
The hotel and restaurant were both good, staff were pleasant and helpful
The rooms were very hot and the information said the restaurant was open on a Sunday evening when it wasn't which was disappointing as we had planned to eat there on our second night
Attentive staff were accomodating and friendly. Location good Open fire fabulous. Parking on site.
Hotel felt cramped. Lots of furniture makes movent stilted. Bedroom tight due to furniture but comfy. Bedroom door didn't close properly. Felt guilty I wasn't getting married as that is the main selling point I felt. :-)
The cottage we stayed in,the gardens ,nice friendly feel to the bar/restaurant ,felt at home
Tried wifi three times, wouldn't connect, but to be fair didn't ask staff for help
Food for the evening meal was good however the portions were small.
Poor wlecome at reception and no information given on the Free Wifi. There was a lighting fitting in the room coming away from the mount in the ceiling. The double bed was up agaist the window on one side which would have made it difficult for two people to get in and bed. A boxed off untit next to the telly was in disrepair with screws protuding from it.
Welcoming Clean & Tidy Competent and attentative staff Room rate was good
Excess noise from kitchen staff radio, as it was next to my room. When mentioned, dealt with immediatley. Expensive breakfast Room was cold Couldn't turn on the radiator to warm it up, especially the bathroom
Lovely location and building. Staff very freindly
£130 per night - breakfast not included..... Extra £16 each. Friends stayed down the road paying £80 with breakfast for same standard of room. Buidling just as nice.
Helpful cleaning staff
I was charged £31.90 for 4 slices of toast. Not happy that the receptionist failed to reduce the fee for breakfast at all.
I had the family room on a late booking. Way too big for my needs but was comfortable and clean. Super quiet at night as it's away from the main building and the road so had a great night's sleep. The kitchen was out of action for hot food owing to a fire the previous week(!) but the continental breakfast (which I would have had anyway) was great: plenty of choice of fresh fruit, cereal and croissants and pain au chocolat and good coffee. Would stay here again.
Staff seemed a little disinterested on arrival and departure. Didn't ask how my stay was. Guest information in the room was on tired sheets of paper - they need refreshing. Digital clock was not set - why have one if not? Although the door to the room opened on to the outside stairs, there were small amounts of leaf debris and spider webs inside the door. Toilet roll in the bathroom only had three sheets left on it - should have been changed. Kettle had water in it on arrival - should have been empty. No biscuits - everywhere has biscuits now!Overall, attention to detail not quite where I'd expect it to be for this rating and price.
The breakfast was good
I'm not complaining, because I don't !!
Good quality rooms and decor
Personal skills of the employees I engaged with.... If only the staff made you feel welcome and not a hindrance then could be a good hotel. Room literature and welcome pack not up to date...£100 pounds lost there as was forced to eat out on Sunday. Your loss not mine.
The road out of there
When we booked our room via booking.com which boasted a restaurant,we were looking forward to a romantic anniversary meal in the restaurant. On checking in we were informed that we could not eat in the restaurant as there was a wedding at the hotel which meant that we as paying guests were advised to elsewhere to eat.we asked why we were not informed at the time of booking only for the receptionist to blame booking.com.the management were only interested in the "exclusive wedding" the management again blamed booking.com,the outcome was we checked out as the service was totally unacceptable. we then had to spend an hour to find another hotel which had a restaurant the we could eat in. As we paid a £50 deposit i think we should be entitled to a full refund and would not recommend this hotel.
Beautiful place and gardens rooms spotless and very comfy
Didn't book in till4pm to be told the resturant didn't open Sunday night and restaurants I'm the town all closed (had to drive into ulverston)then also be told that the double room £130 did not include breakfast(as I hadn't read special conditions)so breakfast came )15.95 each to be told the chef hadn't turned in and one of the head waitresses was cooking so all a bit greasy and the Cumberland sausage turned out to be a chipolata!!
Our stay was great in the apartment lovely house very spacious just wow

- don´t stay here if you need to use wi-fi (first day they said it was because of the weather, but after several days you realise that it just works awfully) - the cleanness is not good enough: first day the towels were dirty or wet though they improved after complaining; duvet covers, cushions, a cloth covering the bedside table... everything dirty... I remark these items as they would be so easy to wash and because you have to touch and use them... I can cope and understand the carpet is full of stains. - room shared a wall with the kitchen!: it was noisy and awfully hot and there wasn´t a window upstairs to be opened, only the door of the room. Specially terrible the day they were busy at the restaurant. - no lights at the beds upstairs and only at one side downstairs; problem if you like to read in bed.
Bed so comfy Bathroom huge and clean Food was lovely
The hotel was lovely set in lovely grounds
Food was excellent
This hotel is a real Jem, weekend package is very good value, food is excellent. The grounds are lovely. Would definitely come back.
Breakfast was not included in the room rate. I had 2 slices of toast and a pot of tea which cost £15.95. Not good value at all !!! The kettle in room 8 was not working correctly - it switched off before boiling. When I went to reception to mention this, there was no one available, otherwise I would have had tea in my room instead of paying £15.95 for tea and toast
Space in the apartment and facilities.
Everything was perfect
The bed - very comfortable Restuarant waiter service was very good and wine also VG.
Lack of Wi Fi - this is a must even if you have to pay a few ££ (though price i paid for the room should justufy free - it is at other comparable hotels). The room i stayed in had been recently painted (though it was difficult to see where, may be the windows were) so had quite a strong paint smell. Although the room was clean and comfortable it was dated and probably not worth the price I paid. If it was around £99 it would, however, be good value, but at £150 it wasn't when i compare it to the likes of Abby House (where i have paid £99). Dinner was very average for the price - certainly presented well but the protein amount (fish) was scant to say hte least and overcooked - again not priced accordingly.
