Staff were excellent, very polite and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Cleanliness good for the age of the room. Hotel had a nice atmosphere. Bed was extremely hard and not comfortable. Returning to the hotel in the evening the front doorway was crowded with smokers through which we had to find a way, and this was not a pleasant experience.

They are in the process of renovating the hotel. The reception still looks reasonably good and also the quiet room to the right, where we played cards when it was raining. They have modernised the Cliff bar at the back of the hotel which is really very nice and there is a large terraced area which has a great view of the sea and beach, again designed well. The food in the Cliff bar was excellent and value for money. The fat chips were to die for! The waiters were very polite, friendly and helpful. Once the whole hotel has had a revamp it will probably be a lot more welcoming. The night of our stay there was a function and the whole night no-one in the hotel slept because of rowdy noise. Unfortunately, the night porter was unable to control the youngsters and there was no-one to help him and neither the manager or the under-manager were available to get the situation under control. This has made an impact on whether we'd return to the hotel. We dined in Michell's Restaurant on Saturday evening and the food was dismal. It was only tepid and definintely not up to Al la Carte standard, unlike the Cliff Bar food. We had to send the cheese board back twice as the mice looked liked they'd nibbled it and then discarded it in disgust. The rooms were ok but definitely not worth £85 per night. Maybe once they have had a make-over I would be willing to pay that price. Would we go back again - No, not in the very near future but while all the staff were very nice, maybe once they get their management side under control we may think about it as it could be quite a nice hotel.

The new bar was a fantastic place to spend the evening with a few drinks, looking onto the outside terrace area and the views beyond were amazing. Very elegant restaurant and delicious food. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. What highly recommend this hotel.

For my job I travel all aroung the UK and Ireland so I pay attention to hotels that I stay in. We have stayed in the cliff before and it is fair to say that improvemets are being made. The new bar is fatastic and very relaxing. the food is excellent value for money and the portions are very good !!! (we could have had one between two) Yes the room was tired, however, it had everything you needed. A lick of paint and new curtains would make all the difference. They are trying to complete rooms over the course of time and lets be fair they can not complete all the work over night ! Our booking did say that building work was being undertaken and noise maybe expected. This was also on the website. Out of the two main hotels I will continue to stay in this one. I look forward to summer evening on the terrace!!! Give it a try and see for yourself !!!

The hotel was clearly in need of decorating - and this was being done. Needed towel rail in bathroom. Also doors around the hotel needed cleaning. .Breakfast very good - toast could have been better quality bread. However, it represented excellent value for money. Corridors very narrow by my room (206)

Friendly hotel. Excellent breakfast. Spacious, well lit bedroom. Value for money. New conservatory and terrace look promising. Hotel quite worn in places. Uncomfortable mattress on bed. Refurbishment disruption, lunge bar closed.

Excellent breakfast and breakfast staff, couldn't have been more helpful. First room offered, drafty windows (one very loose), smoky smelling room, dirty headboard. Second and only avilable room, radiator not working, noisy fan heater left. Cold bathroom. No smoke detector in room, telephone in room not working..

We were attracted by the price and the location. We were not able to stay for dinner on this occasion but look forward to doing so next time. The breakfast was exceptionally good. Well cooked and presented and a a very good choice of dishes. Our rooms were newly decorated 107 and 109. They were comfortable and stylish. The shower is very good indeed. No complaints art all. Clearly there is renovation work going on but we were never inconvenienced by it. I unfortunately left my phone charger behind, and it hasn't been found. But the service atmosphere and value for money will bring us back again.

Located close to the beach and the promenade in a much more pleasant neighbourhood than if in Great Yarmouth. Breakfast was good. We ate in the restaurant and the fish we had on the first evening was only just cooked. There was some early morning noise from contractors working but the hotel had told us about them.

Food was very good and the staff were pleasant. The location is great. No mention of the extensive building work taking place or I wouldn't have booked. They are spending a lot of money extending the bar, I think the priority shoul be modernising the bedrooms which are like something out of the 70's. The bed was terrible the pillows were like bricks and room 106 was like an oven. Food was very good and the staff were pleasant. I will not stay again until the accommodation improves.

The only good point about this hotel were the staff! They were all very friendly and helpful and did their work very well. The breakfast was nice with a menu for your cooked items of choice but as is so often in England you miss the variety of different rolls/breads and cold meats and cheese etc. Room 101 needs a total make-over! Very small room, the bed was terrible like sleeping on concrete and had no quilt just a sheet and horrible old blanket. The carpet was absolutely filthy with stains everywhere. Very dated decor with cracked and peeling paintwork. The door to our room did not lock, fan in the bathroom was not working, lightbulbs needed replacing. The room furniture is the cheapest I have ever seen. The bathroom had cracked tiles and worst of all the toilet had a wooden seat that was cracked and swollen up underneath from all the urine, disgusting! Our towels were not changed each day just picked up off the floor and put back! The sink did not drain away properly. The floorboards creaked badly with every step. The window in the room did not shut properly. An absolutely dreadful room. The hotel should be 2* at best.

Friendly staff and Hotel a suprise when looking at the outside as it looks like aTravelLodge from the back entrance but inside lovely 1930's styling yet the rooms are modern with flat screen TV's and moderen bathrooms etc. The Hotel is still being decorated/upgraded so a fair comparison isn't that possible but I would imagine when it's completed it will be fantastic. Thats not to say at the moment it isn't comfortable! Gorlston it self isn't that great a location but is in easy reach of Norwich

The staff were increadibly professional and totaly helpfull they did more than they needed to do to impress.the hotel itself is just quality on quality. The breakfast was second to none in choice and presentation. Restaurant is warm comfortable and quite magnificant with lovely sea views. My work has required me to stay in hotels for six months of the year for the last three years. This hotel is perhaps the best, most comfortable, well run, efficient, with a warm and friendly atmosphere and wonderful food and service.
