Score from 692 reviews Good
Less than a mile from York’s historic centre, this friendly hotel, built in 1870, retains stained glass windows and a splendid oak staircase. There are good-value rooms and a restaurant and bar.
Score from 1383 reviews Good
Ideally situated, family- run Wheatland Lodge Hotel offers good value accommodation, just a 5-minute walk from York Train Station and a 10-minute walk from York's historic centre.

The actual owner wasn't on site at the time, it was a young man who had taken over until the owner was at full health. The young man spoke inappropriately, came in to the room when we returned from our awards ceremony and was trying to involve himself in conversation. The room was very old and dated. There was a problem with heating which was then blamed on the couple in the room. the man told me 'I cannot stop him taking money from my account for 'repairs' so he can take what he likes' I would NEVER stay here again. Don't be fooled by the hotel parking it can fit maybe 4 cars in the car park. Ridiculous customer service.
This hotel is only a short walk from the centre of York and although the carpark is quite tight it was a welcome addition. Unfortunately our room had just been painted and the smell was quite strong but the room was clean and bed was comfortable.
Location..15mins brisk walk from centre, cosy quiet room, good variety of cereals fruit yogurt and juice etc for breakfast Owner tried his best to be kind and helpful!
No Wi-Fi facilities except in dining room which there was no access to and TV remote was missing at first, poor pressure on shower, top bedside cabinet drawers were dirty, hadn't been cleaned out,... cooked breakfast was rather disappointing
Breakfast was ample and ok
Upon arrival there was no one to great us after ringing the bell a fair few times, we had to phone the guy to come to the door, and this was only 6pm and what a very bad tempered and arrogant man he was.
Comfortable room and good breakfast
Car park too small
We really enjoyed our stay. The beds were so comfy. Rooms very cosy.
The owner of the b&b was very helpful, he even gave us a a lift into town.
Helpful pleasant staff
I had booked a twin room and had then been given a family room with no refreshments which had been paid for within the specifications of a twin room. This was a disappointment, and felt unfair as we had been put in the family room contrary to our booking and request on arrival
Gud nite sleep
Nice room (18) Good staff The river walk is nice Reasonable price
Breakfast was a bit small. Long walk from centre Car park is too small Disorganised
Young man on reception very welcoming and helpful
Shower a bit slow
the owner the room the food the cleanliness. awfull stay .
Owner tried to be helpful.
Place deserted when we arrived, when owner finally arrived said place was booked solid, but found us a room when we told him our reservations were made over a month ago, but had to wait several hours before room ready, bed worn out, nearest restaurant nearly two miles away. Claim of on site parking way over stated. Room for about 4 cars but 8 crammed in and no one leaving until last two cars in moved out. Took chances of parking on street and managed to escape without being cited.
The Indian restaurant around the corner
Old building Room was not clean, carpet grubby, mould on the curtains No elevator for upstairs rooms Incorrect address on the advertisement so hard to find
Easy to find. Substantial breakfast. Fairly clean if a little tired and dated.
Not a living soul present to greet us. Had to wait 15 minutes till the boss arrived on site! Businesslike check in with little greeting or warmth.
Although the hotel has it's own car park, it is far too small for no. of rooms, with double yellow lines on the road outside. Car's are soon "blocked in", not very good of you need an early start.
lovely room, nice breakfast, pleasant walk along the river into the city
Hotel was good ,a lovely walk along the river to the centre of york
Car park was a bit small .
Nice comfty bed
2nd time back and not as good as the first time, breakfast no were near as good quality, owner seemed very stressed not a good atmosphere will think twice before going back
Easy walk into York centre. Large bedroom with very clean bathroom. Very pleasant accommodation and lovely breakfast with the proprietor giving everyone a bottle of water for the day.
The location was ok
Did not like being told that we could not have a late check out after receiving an email saying one had been arranged. No internet in our room.. it say on the website wifi in ALL rooms.
The hotel was had everything you needed, the service, cleanliness. For breakfast you had choices of fresh juice, milk, bottled water, fresh fruit including strawberries and berries, cereals and full english...nothing was too much trouble, you couldnt ask for better service. The hotel was only one mile away from city centre, a nice stroll for about 15 mins.
The host was very helpful, the bed comfortable, the food great and plentiful. We had 1 slight problem the kettle in the room didn't work within 5 minutes of informing the host, it was replaced.
