The Clifton  

The Hotel has a new owner since one or two weeks and they are very very friendly. I had problems to get in the first night, but I emailed that I will arrive late. So if you arrive late, call ahead !! The hotel is old english and needs to be renovated like much in the country. But the architecture and the staff is nice and the view is perfect. It is directly on the coastal path which goes around the Isle of wight, so you can go walking to Sandown or Ventnor or to the beach easily.

Clealry, new owners have plans to redecorate which is badly need especially in public areas. Litte things - lack of attention to deatil: price tag left of new mugs in bedroom - Hard the been washed before putting out? Empy shower gell container. Modern televison - only able to get watchable picture on BBC1

Nice location, beautiful hotel, old but not tired looking hotel. Nice breakfast fresh and hot.

Great location, and a lovely lounge area overlooking the sea. Breakfast is very good, both in choice and quality.

Staff were very friendly. Location is great. Very clean. Good selection of break fast.

We had 3 nights at the hotel.The staff were friendly and helpful.Our room was excellent and the sea view superb.The breakfast was most enjoyable and we sat looking out over the sea.Lovely walks,5 minutes to Shanklin village.Thank you for a lovely visit.We will be back.

The location of the hotel was great, just a very short walk to Shanklin Chine and old village, and you could access the seafromt and walk all the way to Sandown if you wished (lots of icrecream parlours and places to eat on the way). The location means you are not overlooked and can view the sea from the large windows into the dining and lounge areas. The downstairs space was bright and relaxing, you felt you could sit and hide in the settees overlooking the sea and let the world go by. The hotel was the right mix of original features and modern functional bits (ie bathrooms). Good breakfast selection.

The car park was a little tight for me when parking on a slope, Im not used to this. The parking was free though, nice surprise as so many hotels seem to charge!

The decor was a bit tired but it was very clean and is about to undergo a refurbishment soon apparently so can only get better. Prices were a bit steep but it was a busy bank holiday so can't really grumble.

Shower could do with a bit more power

The Clifton Hotel had recently been taken over by new owners, the hotel was clean and they have some plans to update some of the facilities there. The Garden out the front overlooking Shanklin beach and the green has been enhanced by putting table and chairs out there. They have also started doing evening meals although we didn't eat there so I can comment on the quality.

The location was excellent. Great sea views from the Hotel garden and also short walk to Shanklin Old Village and the Shanklin Chine. Breakfast selection was good.

We booked a Standard Double room. The room was fine (although probably on the small size) but the bed was terrible. Old soft mattress that I could feel the springs sticking out when lying down. Our friends booked the Deluxe Double which was much nicer and they said the bed was fine...

Friendly staff, excellent breakfast and a very comfortable stay.
