Stayed here on valentines weekend - food was excellent, hosts were very friendly and helpful. Had a sea view room which was beautiful. Will definitely recommend and return. We left an iPhone in the room by mistake on checking out and immediately received a phone call alerting us from the hotel.
Comfortable, clean rooms and great sea views. Very well presented. Pleasent welcome.
Not really bad but surprised I was not allowed a fork as no take aways were allowed in the building. We had missed dinner. At the same time I can understand they may get people that spill it everywhere.
Everything was good, especially location and sea view room.
Location is splendid, breakfasts were excellent. friendly staff and comfy room.
No lift - not a problem on day to day basis but on arrival and departure with a heavy case a lift would have helped. In fairness we were offered help with our luggage.
We only had breakfasts which were excellent and those servicing us were very helpful, cheerful and friendly. We enjoyed the aspect of the bay from the breakfast room.
Excellent staff generally, helpful. Comfortable room (but.......>) Excellent sized bath sheet rather than skimpy towel which is the norm often, Superb location made up for the negatives!
Room very small, cramped. Shower room even smaller. Had to step into bedroom to dry myself! Room not very well soundproofed and creaky floors with noisy doors (slamming) hence poor night's sleep. Poor menu availability (only a special's board with limited choice) and no grill so couldn't get an omelette for breakfast!
Lovely location with great sea view. Good welcome by friendly and helpful staff. Double bedroom was comfortable with excellent en-suite in which everything worked. Breakfast was very good.
Nothing to complain about but we felt the dinner menus were not good value, e.g. starter of two prawns for over £5! Also for this type of establishment the minimum price for a bottle of wine was too high.
Friendly welcoming staff
Some minor repairs needed to furniture.
A very well run hotel with very competent staff, super position and views
Shortage of free wi fi
Sea view, with own balcony. Quiet location with no road outside to keep you awake. Family run hotel with genuine hospitality
The staff were fantastic they couldn't do enough for you. Breakfast was exceptional with lots of choice.evening meals were amazing.location perfect and views amazing.we will definately return in the future.
There was nothing I didn't like everything was perfect.
Location . staff . Balcony with sea view
Location - view from sea-view room was excellent especially for sunrise; close to town centre (5 min walk); close to seafront restaurants too, although this does require descending from cliff top to beach level either by steep slopes / stairs. We didn't mind, but it might be a problem for some. Friendliness of staff. Excellent breakfast
WiFi advertised as being free / included, but this applies only to the first 500MB for the stay. Thereafter it's 'pay WiFi' - should be clarified in the advertising. Probably wouldn't mind as much if it was a good and consistent connection, but it was very variable during our few days. May well usually be better - who knows...
We had a superb 3 night stay at the Clifton. Perfect location in the hills over looking shanklin beach and only a 5 min walk to Shanklin old village.Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast very good with lots of choices. We would definately return. Anyone wishing to visit the Island should consider this hotel.
The sea views were fantastic and the food very good (we only had breakfasts).
The room was a bit too compact-and-bijou for the price.
Staff v friendly.pleasant atmosphere nice clean decor.
En suite was very small
Loved the sea views; thought the food was gorgeous and really good value for money (nice to eat in their bistro early evening); location was perfect for me; staff were extremely helpful and friendly; lovely small cosy bar and also a green area to sit out.
As a solo traveller, invariably, bedrooms and en suite bathrooms can be much more compact. I am not sure if there is any answer to this other than paying a lot more and asking for a larger room with a view. Having said that, there was a great flat screen TV, a double bed, tea making facilities and fresh water in the room every day, which was much appreciated.
The position and the welcome from the staff
poor flushing loo
The hotel was clean. It's location was good. Staff was nice and friendly. Nice carpets all around the hotel. Rooms are good sized. Breakfast was amazing.
We really disliked the manager/owner: He and his wife were treating their staff very rudely, and they were only friendly to local people. Although it is a nice hotel,do not visit it if you are not English. You can easily overhear what people in the other rooms are talking about or doing. Avoid the hotel if you are looking for something quite. Beds were not comfortable.
First class cooked (to order) breakfast. Unbeatable location with superb views. Friendly and efficient staff
Nothing not to like
Nothing to dislike
If you are looking for a hotel to stay at on the isle of wight then look no further than the clifton, 1st class hotel and nothing is any trouble for the staff, you are very well looked after. Looking forward to going back next year.
Staff extremely friendly . Breakfast delicious although took an HR which made me late for meeting .I am sure if I had said I was on business it would have been speedier .I went with the flow !
