Clonyard House HotelColvend, Rockcliffe, DG5 4QW Dalbeattie (Show map) Good, Score from 22 reviews“Quiet, comfortable room and excellent food. Supervisory staff were on-the-ball, juniors less so. A pleasant location. Superb whiskies.”
James,
Berwick-upon-tweed
This small, family-run hotel is beautifully situated within 7 acres of mature gardens and woodlands, in a secluded position within a national scenic area near the Solway coast. Between the villages of Rockcliffe and Kippford, Clonyard is set in south west Scotland, 4 miles south from Dalbeattie on A710. During your stay you can explore the numerous small villages which are dotted about the countryside, each with its own individual charm, or pay a visit to the country town of Kirkcudbright which is well known in art circles for its historical connections with the 'Glasgow Boys'. The Thompson family who have owned the Clonyard for over 35 years spent many years prior to this in East Africa. This affinity to that continent can still be seen around the hotel. Hotel Rooms: 14

As I was staying on my own It felt comfortable The room felt cold probably because of louvre and large windows and patio door. Single radiator was off when I arrived which was strange considering it was november and -1! It didn't really warm the room. Would have lined some de caff coffee in the room. Could I suggest that they need to consider those guests who may have asthma or allergies and have some specific dog free rooms available. ( or the other way tound) The people in room next to me had 3 big labradors in the bedroom! No matter how much cleaning would have been done after their departure my Grandson if he had been with me, would have been suffering with his breathing if he had stayed in that room.

Excellent service from the stff - couldn't so enough for us. The cook is brilliant - food very good value and very tasty. Some areas need a but of tlc in decoration.

The friendly and helpful staff, they could not do enough for you. Anything we asked for we got. The food was excellent as was the service in the dining room. I am vegetatian and I was given anything I requested if I did not want what was on the menu. The decor was a bit tired, could do with sprucing up.

This is a pleasant country house hotel with African themes. The staff are very friendly and the food is excellent. The room we had was spacious and comfortable and even had its own verandha with table and chairs though the weather precluded us from making use of it. The bar is well enough stocked to cater for most and they have a good selection of wines on offer. I was very well pleased with hotel indeed. no negative points

A very nice, rather old fashioned, comfortable hotel in a quiet woody setting. Near to the beach and marina/ yacht club. Excellent service and a warm welcome. Very good food in the restaurant. The main hotel building rooms are characterful and the annex rooms are all on the ground floor- perfect for pet owners, who are made very welcome.

The hotel was in a 1970s time warp, the decoration was of a poor standard, the cleanliness (especially the shower) was also very poor. There wasn't even a telephone in the room.
