Staff hit the perfect combination of friendliness and helpfulness without compromising service
Bed very comfortable. Breakfast very good. Ideal room for the dog as it opened into a lovely garden area. Lovely old house, very quiet. Able to gain access to the room without walking through the hotel.
Overwhelming stale cooking smell that hit you as soon as you walked into the hotel. Indifference of staff,ie we were not shown to our room merely given the key and directions! Room itself smelled stale and musty. Had obviously not been dusted or vacuumed properly in a very long time.Beer not good and no idea what wine I had in the bar,no choice given only large or small.Bar area in desperate need of refurbishment. The young staff needed more training in all areas. With effort it could be an amazing place to stay but at the moment it is just mediocre. Glad I had'nt booked for more than overnight.
Very good food, obliging staff, lively sociable bar and nice rooms. Highly recommended.
Nothing to dislike
The house itself is lovely but in need of a refurbishment. I have visited the Clonyard many times over 30 years but this is the first time we have stayed. Staff were lovely, breakfast was very good, very big portions. Brilliant setting with beautiful grounds. We very enjoyable stay.
The hotel is very tired needs refurbishment, but still retains its character.
Great location, could be a splendid place to stay if basic issues were addressed
Room door jammed - only opened by using heavy shoulder barge, room not serviced after first night of two booked, disruptive noise from adjoining rooms, barely cleaned utensils and cups in restaurant. Sad to report all this as we enjoyed previous stay at this hotel 2 years ago
The breakfast was great and the dining room was pleasant. The grounds were lovely and well tended. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.
The cleanliness of the room was poor. Whilst the staff tried hard, attention to detail was lacking. There was a strong smell of damp in our room and bathroom. The general décor of the rooms and outer buildings was tired looking. Light bulbs needed replacing in our room, a second coat of paint was obviously needed in areas of the hotel. All this is important attention to detail which is paramount in the hotel business.
The staff were fabulous, they made you feel welcome and we were well looked after, special mention to Barbara and Rachel. We will be going back next year.
Only thing was the rooms were a little dated,
I liked the rural location and the helpful staff. Nice grounds that you could walk in, as well as very comfortable beds. Drinks at bar reasonably priced and the breakfast was good, with a varied selection.
Chorus of birds
We had very spacious room (No 2)with four poster bed plus huge bathroom. Due to the location within a wooded area we had an excellent night's sleep. The breakfast and meals in the hotel were good and the bar was reasonably stocked. There were nearby paths to Dalbeattie, Kippford and Rockcliffe (about 30 - 45 mins) with fantastic sea views. By car, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright, and Sandyhills are within easy reach.
Lovely setting - near to interesting places. Staff mostly very helpful.
Rooms not very well sound-proofed. Not very clean
VERY comfortable bed. Good food. Location. Relaxed friendly atmosphere
Lack of a resident,s quiet comfy lounge.
Convenient location for exploring the area, also very convenient access to grounds through patio doors in each room, and pleasant sitting area outside.
The location was excellent. Staff were helpful and we liked the informal atmosphere, very friendly. The room facility was spot in for us as we had our little dog and there was a patio entrance to the room. Great breakfast with plenty of choices.
There wasn't anything we didn't like.
Beautiful grounds and rustic country house with lovely features. Food was great and service was friendly.
The rooms were adequate enough, a bit dated but there is a back door to a sitting area which is good.
Excellent location in lovely countryside, friendly staff and good restaurant. Spacious rooms, plenty of parking space.
Decor and bathrooms are somewhat tired and could do with some refurbishment.
Booked because of Wi-Fi to do some work. Wi-Fi didn't work had to spend 2 hours in corridor to get connection. Not happy.
It was quirky and good value. Handy location for us
No cold water. The smoked salmon and scrambled eggs should be avoided. I don't know what it was but is wasn't smoked salmon!
Staff were excellent. Food great. Room Comfortable. Will return if in the area.
We liked the hotel very much and would recommend to friends.
Bar, restaurant and the fact that we could take our dog with us to the hotel. Lovely place. We will return.
We booked 4 double rooms for a family group and 3 of them ended up being twin rooms even though the hotel was not full.
I wanted to spring a surprise treat on my partner and we were given the four poster room and it filled every aspect of what we needed and wanted. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely come again!!
having to leave and come home!!
Comfortable, clean hotel. Ideal for a short break in this beautiful area of Scotland.
The room was spacious and extremely comfortable with traditional furnishings. The most comfortable bed I have ever slept in,in any hotel. The room was quiet and we were undisturbed,so much so that we slept in and missed breakfast!!
Rooms are a great size , with your own patio area and door to outside, nice and warm and inviting
