Location ideal for touring the area. This hotel is absolutely appalling. My wife & I stayed there for one night as part of our holiday in the Borders:-arrived in evening tired after a day sightseeing - sitting in lounge with a pre-meal drink - overheard waitress say to manager "can you get them through to restaurant early so we can go home early" - sat down to dinner & heard another guest complain loudly about the absence of meat in his ox-tail curry (which I'd already ordered) - waitress apologised to him and reported to chef - my curry eventually arrived with lots of veg but virtually no meat - I complained & got the same lame apology.Went to bed at around 10pm - at 11.15pm we were awakened by someone trying to enter the hotel by opening our bedroom window - told them to go away or we would phone the police - for the next 45mins we lay awake aware of persons outside knocking on the hotel door & constantly using a mobile phone and the main hotel phone ringing out - then a loud knock on our room window revealed a distressed foreign couple who pleaded with us to let them in as they said they were guests but the key they had been given didn't work & there was no answer from the hotel phone - with my wife upset I got dressed, went to the fornt door & admitted two complete strangers to the hotel - there were no staff present despite the prolonged disturbance - the next morning at breakfast the hotel manager was serving in the dining room and before I could raise the previous night events he served me up with raw bacon - last straw - I got out of my seat and in front of the other guests (plenty witnesses)let him know what I thought - I immediatly went to reception to check-out and the manager after some time at the computer presented me with a bill for accommodation which I had personally paid to him the previous evening - this time I absolutely lost it - result was that he mumbled an apology & provided a full refund - still not worth the hassle as this spoiled a great holiday in the borders.

The Hotel was warm and cosy, an ideal base for us to visit family in Jedburgh and great for the Halloween parade in Edinburgh. Rooms were decorated nicely and well set out, clean and comfy. The food was really good and local folk very welcoming. The price obviousley swayed it for us, we got a great deal which meant we could actually visit our family, would definately stay again.

This was a convenient spot for our travels. The place is a bit run down but it is clean and comfortable. The breakfast is good. The restaurant area may be the best feature of this hotel. Adequate parking, which is nice.

Check in was very quick, there is a bar and restaurant on the premises and the breakfast was excellent. A good place for a stay for a day or two but the town is very small.

This was the worst hotel I have stayed in. Our room was damp. The bathroom carpet was sodden. They were aware of a leak yet still made us pay for this room.

I liked the position in the countryside as it was chosen for this reason, as well as its position as a memory of past visits to the area. The room we were given was very small, the carpets were soaking wet as there was a broken shower basin. One of our evening meals was shockingly small for a main course and we will be writing to the hotel in due course.

Quality food in restaurant- and pleasant serving staff. Loads of parking space on site. Right on main Road-ok overnight, but bit noisy in morning. Bedrooms could do with a bit/lot of updating- but were very comfortable.

Really nice friendly hotel, was also made to feel like I was at by the locals when having a drink in the hotel bar at night, I would definitely stay there again if in that area. Food was good value and breakfast was plentiful.

This hotel was absolutely fine and some of the other reviews seem unfair. We stayed in Room 5 which was spacious and comfortable and included tea and coffee making facilities and small tv. The bathroom was very large with bath and shower and plenty of hot water. Breakfast was included and was good and would certainly recommend the kipper. Staff were very friendly. All round would recommend.

What can we say? The Clovenfords was a wonderful Hotel in the middle of a small town in the countryside. It was easy to find and convenient for our tour of the Abbeys sights. Our triple room was very spacious, ensuite, and quiet. We had a late dinner in the restaurant and the food was great! The breakfast was good and made to order as well. The price at the Clovenfords was very inexpensive for the services, room accommodations, and convenient location. We would definitely stay here again for several days and explore this region further.
