food, room size, attentive staff
off the beaten track, road to hotel just better than dirt track
Interesting country house with a good rural location Food was good & service was willing - perhaps lacking a bit in sophistication BUT good value for money. Terrific bathroom towels.
Water supply in our bathroom was feeble. The trickle was inadequate to power a shower. No hair dryer despite that being part of the 'offer'
Stayed in one of the cottages, due to being able to enter straight from outside the carpets were a bit grubby but the staff were very freindly and excellent breakfast.
We absolutely loved the location and decor of the entire hotel; quite simply stunning!
That we couldn't stay longer as we could have quite happily have moved in for good! :)
Staff were excellent dealing with any problems immediately. Food also excellent - bar meals recommended and the breakfasts were excellent. Cleanliness also excellent and the bed was very comfortable.
Lack of preparation for us: only one set of towels, no heating, lack of tea bags and milk in room, no hair dryer. Everything was sorted as soon as we mentioned it though.
Lovely building and grounds
Staff were unhelpful Hot water did not work in my shower
Would use the hotel more often if rooms were less expensive but all in all a very good night
The chef is outstanding, the food was incredible in the evening. Bar staff made a good cocktail but oh so slow.
Old lumpy mattress, more miss than near cleaning, slow service.
The hotel was great. We stayed in Room 9, I think, which was a separate building from the Country House with 2 rooms, bathroom and bedroom. It had a lot of character. The interior of the building was similar to a small cottage. There were french doors that lead on to decking with a table and chairs which was great. We were a towel short when we arrived, but the staff were quick to provide another. I also ordered several drinks from the bar and the staff insisted that I returned to my room, so that they could bring my drinks to me.
The back door which lead on to the decking didn't have a key to lock the door, so I was actually quite concerned about leaving the room unoccupied. Apart from that there was not much to find fault with. I think the place just needs a bit of TLC. There are just a few minor renovations that need doing, not even a days work.
Breakfast and evening meal were very good
Decor very tired and needs updating, however we understand that the hotel is only recently under new management. We would stay again if improvements made.
Staff were very helpful since we needed to check in slightly early since we needed to get to a wedding and they arranged a taxi for us. Breakfast was excellent.
the décor in the bedroom is very dated and tatty and needs updating. Lack of attention to detail - e.g. broken bulbs not replaced, extractor fan vent in bathroom clogged up with dust and desperately needs a clean, upon checkout there was no request for customer feedback i.e. did you enjoy your stay etc. etc.
Very Good Staff
Hotel is NOT Cleaned by the STAFF
The food was top notch, and it seems that the focus is on serving food and catering for weddings
The rooms were very dated and sad; having cheap plywood doors in a country house hotel just does not look right. Worse there was no hot water for a bath or shower in my room
Nice room Relaxing location
Very quiet No gym/leisure facility
the room, the atmosphere and the food. the staff were all very pleasant too even after we "pushed" to get a table in the main reataurant.
the cobwebs in the beams above the bed and the bloody big spider that ran across the floor. The Frank Sinatra music and then the christmas carols (in september!) And yet again (our second visit) they couldn't give us a table for dinner as the restaurant "was fully booked" if we're staying there i expect to be able to eat there! (they did after we moaned about this make us up a table but then the food was slow to come and we twice had to chase up our wine.)
Quiet location, comfortable, friendly, in an interesting area, food was excellent.
Poor reception for wifi, and also tv was only receiving the picture, no sound on most of the channels, this was the signal not the TV which was up to date. This I think was due to the location, small sacrifice.
Room wasn't very clean for the money it cost.
The location and surrounding grounds where lovely and we'll kept. the night time staff where friendly and helpful
The room was very tatty the wardrobe door wouldn't close which left a light on until I removed the bulb. the bathroom and especially the shower was dirty with mould and damp around the ceiling and this was supposed to be a superior room I was very disappointed.
Location Beautiful building
Heating didn't work Jacuzzi didn't work Toilet seat broken Dirty sheets Poor cleanliness Cobwebs everywhere Poor wifi reception Poor tv reception Noisy wedding party Breakfast not ready til 8.45
Unique country house Character property Lovely friendly staff Good chef
House in need of TLC No wifi available Wobbly tables Not a four star hotel Outside areas unkept Doesn't live up to description
Brilliant location just off the beaten track, easily accessible and plenty to do in the surrounding areas. The rooms were large comfortable and loved the design of our room (oval room). The large garden lawn was a perfect spot for our picnic. Brilliant service and would highly recommend.
The setting was enchanting fully recommend it
It is a small hotel with not many bedrooms all of which are different so it is very much like staying in a country house
Haven't stayed there for 4 years and everything was a bit 'tired'. However I was told that it is soon to have a complete makeover which should take it back to the place I used to love.
The intimate nature of the hotel with friendly staff and an informal atmosphere. The evening meal was of a very high standard indeed.
We were treated like royalty during our stay by the staff. The food was wonderful and the room beautiful.
