We liked the whole break it was a lovely rest. We only travelled 30 mins but we could have been anywhere. Will definitely return.
Lovely big room, friendly staff, good breakfast
Starting to look slightly run down, tired decor. The evening meal was nowhere near the standard of last time we visited (5 years ago)
The staff were extremely efficient and friendly at all times during my stay. The room was very comfortable and excellent for the price. An abundance of fresh, towels and a good stock of tea, coffee and milk on the table too. The food I had was superb in every way, especially the chicken with peppercorn sauce, with the vegetables cooked to that of a Michelin 5 star restaurant I thought. Also I liked the fact that at this particular time, it was quiet and I felt like I very much had the place to myself; just what was needed. Again, the breakfast in the morning was possibly one of the best breakfast's I've encountered during a hotel visit, with 3 rashers of bacon and even black pudding, plus a generous supply of toast and tea! Well done to the young lady serving, who was considerably polite and courteous. Also the young chap who was working on the day I arrived was extremely helpful and courteous throughout and nothing was too much bother for him - very professional. Lastly checking both in and out was easy and more importantly a no fuss process. Superb in every way!!! I'll be back
If anything I found the building too hot at times and had to resort to sleeping with my window wide open, therefore feeling guilty at wasting the heat. Sadly I couldn't phathom out how to turn the radiator down. The bathroom in my my room needed its window re-painting in places, plus I was conscious of the fact when showering I couldn't prevent the water from covering the window sill etc. This concerned me as I'm sure the water must be leaking down the side of the bath somewhere. Also as a result of this, the spare toilet roll had been left in such a position that it became sodden with water and would have been of no future use at all. The material covering the bathroom inner window needs replacing or washing and I felt it a shame the bathroom lights didn't work independently of each other so as to allow a more dim lit effect rather than the full glare of spotlights and side lights. Other than these factors, most enjoyable and restful; stay I've had in a long time.
Lovely stylish room and a beautiful setting. Breakfast was good.
Breakfast service could be a little more attentive but just a suggestion nit a complaint
Excellent greeting from Millie on arrival - very professional and friendly, made us feel at home. Room facilities were what you'd expect for the money, stylishly decorated (we had 1 of the 3 premium rooms) The Breakfast was excellent - excellent ingredients and very well cooked. Thank you to the chef! Lots of parking Value for Money.
The bathroom in our room (Room 2) could do with an update. It's looking a bit tired Could have supplied some water in the room included in the room rate.
The 2 young staff who were working the night we stayed (Thurs 6th Nov) - they were excellent and are a credit to a place that deserves little credit.
Claims to be a 4* 'country house'. Rooms were cold and shabby. View from our first room was a skip! Heating didn't work. No kettle in second room. Poor décor and light bulbs that don't work and raw plugs everywhere! Food was average - lots of 'Chefy' touches that didn't work - blackberries with fillet steak?? We were charged £4.75 for 4 extra crackers with the cheese! Person who checked us out didn't seem to care that we were disappointed - we won't be back!!
Food is outstanding beautiful building - good décor throughout external rooms are lovely
stayed in a deluxe double with bath - carpet badly stained, poor wifi reception in room. Bathroom with Jacuzzi bath:: bath filthy - other peoples 'hair' in bath on arrival and the Jacuzzi jets were dirty - could lift the dirt off with tissue so there was no way you would actually have a bath! grouting around bath dirty - not pleasant at all.
Food was excellent.
One too many tables in the restaurant.
The food was very good
everything was perfect recommend this hotel to anyone.Great breakfast
Lovely comfortable bed just sank into deep sleep
Lack of leaflets about local activities
Gorgeous decor and food
Really nice and quiet but still easy to get out and about
there was no hot water for a shower on the morning of our departure
Excellent room and service. Fantastic breakfast. Perfect weekend getaway.
Very nice evening meal and breakfast
Staff cleaning rooms after checking in time. I had room 4 which is a large lovely room but needed a complete refurb in the bathroom and main bedroom. Some lights not working and tea making facilities not checked in detail. Main house looking sombre
food, room size, attentive staff
off the beaten track, road to hotel just better than dirt track
Interesting country house with a good rural location Food was good & service was willing - perhaps lacking a bit in sophistication BUT good value for money. Terrific bathroom towels.
Water supply in our bathroom was feeble. The trickle was inadequate to power a shower. No hair dryer despite that being part of the 'offer'
Stayed in one of the cottages, due to being able to enter straight from outside the carpets were a bit grubby but the staff were very freindly and excellent breakfast.
We absolutely loved the location and decor of the entire hotel; quite simply stunning!
That we couldn't stay longer as we could have quite happily have moved in for good! :)
Staff were excellent dealing with any problems immediately. Food also excellent - bar meals recommended and the breakfasts were excellent. Cleanliness also excellent and the bed was very comfortable.
Lack of preparation for us: only one set of towels, no heating, lack of tea bags and milk in room, no hair dryer. Everything was sorted as soon as we mentioned it though.
Lovely building and grounds
Staff were unhelpful Hot water did not work in my shower
Would use the hotel more often if rooms were less expensive but all in all a very good night
The chef is outstanding, the food was incredible in the evening. Bar staff made a good cocktail but oh so slow.
Old lumpy mattress, more miss than near cleaning, slow service.
The hotel was great. We stayed in Room 9, I think, which was a separate building from the Country House with 2 rooms, bathroom and bedroom. It had a lot of character. The interior of the building was similar to a small cottage. There were french doors that lead on to decking with a table and chairs which was great. We were a towel short when we arrived, but the staff were quick to provide another. I also ordered several drinks from the bar and the staff insisted that I returned to my room, so that they could bring my drinks to me.
The back door which lead on to the decking didn't have a key to lock the door, so I was actually quite concerned about leaving the room unoccupied. Apart from that there was not much to find fault with. I think the place just needs a bit of TLC. There are just a few minor renovations that need doing, not even a days work.
Breakfast and evening meal were very good
Decor very tired and needs updating, however we understand that the hotel is only recently under new management. We would stay again if improvements made.
