What really stood out was the really helpful reception we received, having arrived after 10pm following a long hold up on the A303 and not having eaten. The proprieters went out of their way to provide a meal for us (room service) despite their restaurant having closed hours before. This was very good service indeed. Comfy room on the whole, convenient location close to the A303 peaceful (no traffic noise). Peaceful night despite the presence of other guests in the hotel. Tasty vegetarian breakfast. One negative was that the person serving breakfast was dismissive of another guest's query in relation to a food allergy; however she did then return and offer to make some homemade bread for her.
Bed was too hard for me (and I like a firm mattress)
We enjoyed our stay, very comfortable room and excellent lounge areas. There is a real comfy, homely feel to this establishment.
It's unfortunate that we were the only guests, so it felt a little lonely in the bar and we decided to eat at the pub in Lydford. It's not a criticism, it's just the way it was when we were visiting.
The location of this beautiful manor house is superb and in beautifully kept grounds. Our room was delightful, and we enjoyed a pre-dinner drink in the comfortable sitting room in front of the fire before dinner. As with our first visit our dinner was delicious and presented to a very high standard. Breakfast was super. We will visit again.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Great food and a good selection. Peaceful location with a paddock to let the dogs have a bit of a run. Huge comfy bed. Clean modern bathroom with a bath. Great views.
We didn't realise that we needed to order kippers or smoked haddock for breakfast the night before. We should have read the information in the room but we were late arriving due to a long journey. It would have been nice to have been told this during our evening meal
Collaven Manor is something really special! The tenants make you feel at home in their beautiful premises admidst the most beautiful landscape on the edge of Dartmoor
Perfect place to celebrate a birthday lovely and peaceful fabulous food would use again
Pleasant staff, nice room, lovely old house, nice garden, good breakfast.
Slighty pricey, but worth it - a pity we couldn't stay longer
Room was spacious, comfortable, and lovely views. Food excellent
Pillows were very hard for me, but fine for my husband!
The room, very clean, comfortable, friendly staff and breakfast
Cups in room too small, prefer bigger cups or mugs

The place the hospitality
Really pretty house and grounds, I wish we'd arrived earlier to enjoy them more.
The lady owner was grumpy at breakfast which made me feel uncomfortable, especially as her husband had been so friendly and helpful when we arrived.
Beautiful small manor house hotel in lovely setting Superb dinner and well chosen wine list All the little touches you'd expect were provided Lovely bedroom and wonderful view over the garden Décor of the bedroom was delightful Very comfortable
Slightly too formal a welcome after we'd already had a very long day and drive.
The location, the garden and surroundings, the room and the downstairs facilities.
The cost and range of evening meals. More flexibility of the dinner arrangements would have been more acceptable. The deadline for breakfast.
Good room, evening meal and breakfast. Made welcome. Parking adequate and close.
Slight noise from adjacent room.
Location and historical building
Quiet solitude, with things you need at your finger tips. Very well kept and the house has real history and Old English charm.
The room size was wonderful. The bed was very comfortable, shower was spotless and wi- fi worked very well.
