Excellent staff. I booked a room with a sea View and was allocated one with a view of of a bit of the beach and the main road along the front of Oban, as far as I was concerned this was not a sea view. When I complained I was told in the hotels opinion this was a "sea view". However the excellent lady at the reception moved us to another room with a proper sea view. Top marks for customer care. I would only stay in the Columba again if I was sure I would be allocated the same room or one with a similar view.

The hotel is in a good central location, great for the walking areas round about. There is a tourist information almost next door with excellent maps for hill walks. We did 6 of them in 3 days. We had room 305 with a view from 3 small windows as on the Booking.com site, with a lovely view of the harbour. It's worth the small extra expense. The staff were polite, the younger staff at breakfast very willing to help. The bed was very comfortable and the room extremely quiet. There is only 8 parking spaces which are always full. You have to pay 80p hourly between 9am and 6pm in the public area immediately outside. The hotel is desperately in need of updating, tho I think this is ongoing at the moment. The lift is pre-historic and only works if all the 3 pull along doors are properly closed on all levels. We ran upstairs on several occasions closing the doors rescuing elderly who depended on it. The stairs are a challenge for the unfit. Breakfast was a fat and sugar hit but Tesco is a 10 min walk away for fresh fruit, natural yogurt, seeds and nuts. Otherwise its all fried, extra sweetened cereals and yogurt and very cheap white and brown! Bread. You can get a poached egg on request. The bathroom was tiny with dirty grouting and a shower which was either boiling or freezing. We had to use the bath and rinse with a water bottle. Wi fi is not free any more. We didn't dine there due to the breakfast quality but there is an excellent fish restaurant next door called Eeusk.

The room was amazing, the view was amazing, the staff were very friendly. We were awake till abour 4:30am in the moring due to a fauilty fire alarm which beeped every 5 seconds. We called reception @ 3am relising we were never getting to sleep. At 4 am we had to call again as nothing had been done and the girl said "what do you want me to do about it" At this point we where very tired and grumpy. The manager then moved us room and very kindly tried to warm it for us. Due to this we missed breakfast as we were shattered and could face getting uo for it. I feel that a point should have been made to put this right in the morning but it went unmetioned by staff and we left feeling tired and it kind of spoiled the stay. It is also illegal to have faulty fire alarms. and I feel no residents should have been on that floor. I would very much appreciate these comments being forwarded to the hotel as up to this point we had already planned to revisit. We normally stay in the Oban Bay Hotel which was fully booked and we had said we would never go there again as we loved this hotel.

It is in a very convenient position for catching the early morning ferry to Colonsay. Needs desperately updating. The only lift in the building is so tiny it can't take 3 people, - even without luggage.

We needed an extra bed, arrived late in the evening and were in a group but nothing was too much trouble. Our problem was solved efficiently with no fuss even though the hotel was full. The breakfast was excellent and well organised. Things seemed very well run altogether.

The fact that it was central to Oban's restaurants and bars. Had really nice views from the rooms. Front desk staff were really freindly and helpful. Could have done with more car parking spaces.

The location is perfect for either sightseeing or shopping The hotel has limited parking, and when I arrived all the spaces were used up this is to be expected but I later found out that some of the spaces were taken by the decoraters that was working in the hotel at the time, I felt this was a little out of order as the spaces clearly say for hotel visitors only

Room was well equipped, and comfortable. Efficient and helpful reception staff. Excellent cooked breakfast, with helpful staff that allowed for an early departure. Hotel is in an old building which is being modernized. Well located for the buses and trains. The lift was stuck on the first floor on one occasion (modern lift shoe- horned into an old building)..

The location was probably the most beneficial factor, right next to the shops and Distillery and across the road from the harbour. Perfect location. The designs of the rooms were lovely and the dining rooms and staircase were spectacular. The bathroom was very inconvenient, even for myself as a solo traveller. The shower head was extremely dirty and grimey, along with the bottom of the shower itself. There was no shelves in the shower and due to the small size, it was rather difficult having to keep bending down to grab shampoo bottles etc. The water was extremely annoying, it took 10-15 minutes for the water to get hot, this was becoming a real nuisance for me, when it did get hot it was boiling hot, and took a further 5 mintues for it get to the right temperature. This was so annoying, not to mention the amount of water getting wasted. The toilet was far to close to the shower and basically no room to move at all. The tv didn't work, could not get any signal at all. Also the room itself hadn't been vacuumed properly, that was very obvious.

The Breakfast was very good, the location and view from our room The bed was small and uncomfortable and the parking situation was not well advertised prior to the booking. I always look for on site parking when I choose a hotel. I thought this one had sufficient but was mistaken. They had 8 or 9 bays, the remainder being in the co-located pay and display car park. Didn't appreciate having to shell out for parking in the p&d then hope to chance a space would become free. Miffed at that.

The hotel was in an excellent location, clean reasonably priced rooms with comfortable beds and good service. Bar attached to hotel is convenient and bar food was enjoyable. Wine selection could be more extensive and include better wines.

My daughter and myself chose the Columba Hotel for its location, as we were en route to Iona. We were welcomed by the male manager/receptionist. Our rooms were adequate. Breakfast and service were excellent. The facts are that we were not warned about the difficulty in opening the doors to the lift. The kettle in my room had to be placed on the floor to reach the plug and did not work unless the switch on the handle was pressed down. The food in the restaurant left a lot to be desired - uneatable pork for example.

The staff at the Columba hotel exceded our expectations in every way. They were friendly, helpful and should get an award for going 'above and beyond' by finding my daughter's passports in the hotel room before we even realised they were missing and posting them on for us. Thanks to the quick thinking and actions of the staff a disaster was avoided and my daughter and her boyfriend were able to fly back home to France on time. Many thanks, kirkpatrick family.

The hotel is very central in the town. Staff very helpful, especially reception staff and young girl serving breakfast. I liked the idea you could control the heater in your bedroom and that it was not centrally controlled.
