The hotel was quiet and peaceful. We stayed on a Wednesday night. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Our executive rooms were located on the second floor up four flights of stairs with no lifts. Our rooms had everything that we needed ie iron, ironing board, spare pillows, dressing gowns and a fan which was needed as there was only on small window and re room was really stuffy and hot. The decor of the room wasn't great and felt a bit tired and the layout of our room 203 wasn't great as our bed was situated right behind the door. But for the discounted price we paid I was satisfied. We didn't have breakfast as it was an additional £10.50 each (£42 for a family of 4 is too expensive).
The floor in our bathroom was uneven, the tiling was poor with a broken tile in the doorway which I reported when we checked out.
Exceptional history and a great location, good standard of cleanliness and a great English breakfast.
Hotel is now becoming a shadow of its former glory, dated room decor, rippled carpets, rough towels leave this once superb hotel experience sadly wanting. Superior rooms attract a premium price but in all honesty it is not value for money. A very very limited choice on the breakfast menu doesn't help, no choice of kippers or omelette, very very poor choice of continental breakfast offered, only sliced melon, two pastries and toast.
Good location, big rooms.
Room service tray left outside my room for about 30hrs. Room decor very tired.
Staff weren't very welcoming and the staircase carpets were dirty and there were trays and linen just left in the hallways for some time. Out TV and bedside light didn't work and there was no one on reception at 11.00
the location, although so close to the city and sporting venues you felt in the open country side with walks around the lakes and along the river. the dinner in the byron brasserie was excellent value
for a boutique hotel it lacked the little extras that would lift it into another level, such as ones local to us that we are familiar with: Hotel du Vin, Winchester or The Pig,Brockenhurst
Food awesome, price for for food well worth every penny. I'm loving the afternoon tea, highly recommend
Can't really say nothing bad at all,
Staff did apologise for rowdy wedding guests and the poise were called . No discount on bill . Uncomfortable bed poor linen not to standard of 4 star hotel
Wedding party on the night we stayed were very loud fighting amongst the guests . We checked out at 630 am did not want to stay for breakfast
Loved the exposed beams, staff was excellent, good location. The bathroom was spotless and huge. Enjoyed my stay.
Was nice room, a good size. Beautiful hotel.
Overpriced for 1 night. Breakfast was not included and rendered an additional cost. Desk staff were lovely but bar staff in the restaurant were moody and unhelpful. I was there on my wedding night and was constantly told there was another wedding and wasn't allowed to use the grounds - once would have been fine! Little over the top!
Breakfast was expensive and pretty tasteless
Location, size of the rooms
Faded decor in dire need of refurbishment
Very good breakfast and well served although not included in price.
Very heavy decor in rooms with over elaborate furniture for the space. Outside the room were all the ventilation shafts for the hotel so intermittently noisy throughout the night. Poor shower and pillows
Friendly Staff Great Food Relaxed surroundings wonerful grounds
Food & staff
Room very basic-old mattress & quilt- small room- poor soft furnishings- fell short of premier inn standard!!
value for money and location
We was put in a room at the top and it was classed as executive not in a million years was it executive.
Nice location, food was very good and customer service was great
Wifi poor, decor in rooms could do with an a bit of an upgrade
Bistro very nice - food of a high standard.
No window in my room that opened.
We were overall quite disappointed with this hotel. We booked a superior room (at a discounted rate but still £89) and expected a room like in all of the pictures, well we arrived at approx 4pm and the reception was deserted, staff walked thru and ignored us, I asked the same person the next time they came thru and they found the receptionist, by the smell she was out the back smoking... No apology.. We found our room, at the top on 2nd floor and not quite what we expected, more of a loft conversion than a superior room, very tired room and poor workmanship, very disappointed I called asking and we were told yes, it was a superior room, rubbish. There was a wedding on with music until after 1am with no soundproofing no chance of sleep and the after party near the stairwell was the icing on the cake. They do say that the hotel is used for functions/weddings but I would not recommend staying here if you are not part of the wedding/function because of the noise and chance you will end up in not the room you booked, I would be irate if I'd paid the full £200 a night for the terrible room we got, beware!
It was a luxurious end to my sons wedding at colwick hall
weren't sure that breakfast was included so daren't have any even though it looked lovely, when we said bye to other guests who had booked bed and breakfast direct with colwick hall
Brasserie was good. Summertime offer with Pimms.
A bit faded glory. Attic bedroom. Did expect a view of some sort.
Bistro / bar staff were amazing. Definitely book again they made our anniversary weekend one to remember.
Place needs a good clean and refurb - food was great for lunch but poor for dinner, needs improvement - this place could be great with some effort
