Very good,
Score from 297 reviews
Retaining many Edwardian features but totally redesigned for the modern era, this hotel offers a good combination of value and quality in the heart of St. Albans. The hotel is located in the center of town, close to some excellent shopping, restaurants and traditional pubs. With St. Albans Abbey Cathedral, Verulamium Park and Roman Museum, Whipsnade Zoo and Gardens of the Rose close by, there is something for everyone. This Grade II listed (historically designated) building was built in 1911 by Samuel Ryder, donor of golf's prestigious Ryder Cup, to house his successful seed company. With a sweeping staircase and magnificent stained glass dome, Ryder's original carved fireplace still stands in what was his private office. Hotel Rooms: 60, Hotel Chain: Comfort Inn. Most recent booking for this hotel was yesterday at 17:24 from United Kingdom.

Central location Terrible towels; lousy, uncontrolled and very limited parking; awful tea offered at breakfast and food not always available (in the middle of the breakfast session); restaurant facilities offered on website and in hotel but none actually available; seriously inconvenient and potentially dangerous situation with respect to steam in bathrooms being able to set off fire alarms - the extractors in the bathrooms should be upgraded as a matter of urgency to cope; room was very cold when we went in the first time; we did not use the bar as much as we would have liked to because no-one was serving on several occasions when the bar should have been open.

The staff worked very hard to allow us to check in early as we had to get ready to attend a wedding. The breakfast, although very nice, was perhaps a little expensive!

Very pleasant hotel in great location. Cafe Rouge handy next door but would recommend Cote just up the road for breakfast. Near all the shops and restaurants. Has all you need in a hotel room, nothing particularly remarkable but clean and newly refurbed. The duvet didn't have a proper cover, just a kind of hooped sheet which meant the sides were bare and you woke up with uncovered bits which I wonder how they keep clean. The tap sprays water out of the sink - not a big deal. Corridors are noisy, could hear people traipsing along. Not unusual in a hotel.

Just it's location. Breakfast was good. Rooms decorated very dowdily in browns and cream more akin to 70's style and looks very dated and uninviting. Old fashioned 'modern' design. Bar area is hopeless and drab. Bedrooms dated

The staff were friendly and the service was prompt. We very much appreciated the location of the hotel as our grandson was being christened at the Abbey. We would be happy to stay here again. We found that the bedding was a bit light and short, I.E. not too cosy.

Convenience, comfort, tasty full English breakfast. Television did not have bbc1, bbc2, itv - presume this was a fault with that particular room. Instant coffee in the room was truly awful.

Comfort Hotel is placed well into the city centre of St Albans but despite the proximity of a large shopping area, the hotel is very quiet. The male receptionist at check-in was very polite and welcoming. He was very accommodating to our needs. A nice man. The room was very clean and well arranged. I would recommend the hotel.

We thought the location was very good and gave us good access to all aspects of St Albans. I thought we could have left the car in the hotel car park a bit longer especially as there is little demand for car park spaces on a Sunday when parking is virtually free in St Albans.

Clean, spacious rooms with a decent desk to work at and free wifi. Excellent location in central St Albans, but with rooms set back from the road away from the traffic. Friendly, helpful staff It's only a minor thing but I thought the lighting in the rooms was a bit gloomy.

Clean, quiiet modern hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Location of hotel is ideal for shopping and visiting tourist sites. Hotel is located opposite the magnificent Abbey and surrounding public parkland. Ideal for walks in the morning after breakfast and in the evening before dining out in the wide variety of restraunts available in St Albans. Looking forward to visiting St Albans again this summer and staying at the Comfort Hotel.

Great hotel, clean, comfortable and friendly does what it says on the tin. The pillows were a little firm but otherwise I can't fault this hotel for the money we paid it is good value.

The location was good for us as we were going to an event locally. The bar was lovely too and the staff very helpful and friendly. Our room 116 was absolutely freezing cold when we went in it. It took ages to warm up and frankly we found that quite unwelcoming. If you know a room is gonig to be occupied, as ours was booked weeks ago, then surely when its minus 4 outside the heating could be left on?

Its location was good. Alas, parking was awful I got boxed in every time I parked over the 2 days, and with my sister being quite disabled this became a nightmare, the hotel staff put cones out for us,. But these were disregarded by restaurant staff (next door) The breakfast had obviously been laying under heat for some time as the bacon and sausages were uneatable. The door lock was not operating properly and we in the end had 3 key cards, and it either worked or it didn't ! so, for what we paid, sadly I did not think this represented good value at all, as our week-end was frustrating instead of relaxing, and seeing our family.
