Comfort Hotel St Albans-City CentreRyder House, Holywell Hill, AL1 1HG Saint Albans (Show map) Very good, Score from 286 reviews“Well-run, clean, comfortable hotel one minute's walk from cathedral, 10-15 min walk from station. It was pleasingly quiet, especially considering its central location on a main road. Cafe Rouge next door - its menu is available as room service. Staff were helpful and tolerant, seeing that we arrived somewhat the worse for wear after a function.”
Alex,
London
Retaining many Edwardian features but totally redesigned for the modern era, this hotel offers a good combination of value and quality in the heart of St. Albans. The hotel is located in the center of town, close to some excellent shopping, restaurants and traditional pubs. With St. Albans Abbey Cathedral, Verulamium Park and Roman Museum, Whipsnade Zoo and Gardens of the Rose close by, there is something for everyone. This Grade II listed (historically designated) building was built in 1911 by Samuel Ryder, donor of golf's prestigious Ryder Cup, to house his successful seed company. With a sweeping staircase and magnificent stained glass dome, Ryder's original carved fireplace still stands in what was his private office. Hotel Rooms: 60, Hotel Chain: Comfort Inn.

Central location Terrible towels; lousy, uncontrolled and very limited parking; awful tea offered at breakfast and food not always available (in the middle of the breakfast session); restaurant facilities offered on website and in hotel but none actually available; seriously inconvenient and potentially dangerous situation with respect to steam in bathrooms being able to set off fire alarms - the extractors in the bathrooms should be upgraded as a matter of urgency to cope; room was very cold when we went in the first time; we did not use the bar as much as we would have liked to because no-one was serving on several occasions when the bar should have been open.

It was within walking distance of where we needed to be, the room was comfortable and clean. Parking was extremely difficult and although that is because the Hotel is in the city centre, we had no information before coming that parking woud be a problem and so we feel that should have been highlighted with advice as to where to park on arrival.

Very good position, for a family party at Lussmann's restaurant The bed was very hard and whilst this may suit some people it did not suit either of the two couples in our party, this made for a very uncomfortable night and the pillows were horrible, very hard and made of some sort of foam rubber infill.. There was a leak in our bathroom in room 302 which meant the floor was always covered in a pool of water and if you mopped it up during the night it reformed very quickly.. The shower/bath was difficult to understand, no instructions so every one got soaked whilst trying to run a bath! Sound proofing of the rooms was bad so noisy guests returning at 3.00 am woke everyone up. Please put decent orange juice in the breakfast room, not orange squash.. horrid!

This is not a complaint, but an observation of your breakfast. The standard has fallen over the past few months. Particularly the quality of the toast, dry and like a rusk The quality of the tea, one tea bag for two people, very weak. In fact, the overall general quality.

Very convenient, easy parking, comfortable room, friendly staff, attractive building and excellent central location near shops, pubs and restaurants. Nice that you suggested we could change to a double room and for no extra charge. The room was really cold when we first arrived. However I appreciate the fact that you don't want to heat rooms unnecessarily before guests arrive - so I wouldn't complain about this. The keys weren't very easy to use! And I didn't like that when we shut the door at 10.30 we were instantly locked out - we tried to get back in to leave a tip for the chambermaid, but couldn't, so she missed out. I think the keys should work until 11.00.

The hotel was modern and looked recently refurbished. The rooms were clean, fresh, stylish and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and pleasant and the location was superb. The hot breakfast was a little disappointing and would have preferred to have had a choice to order rather than a hot plate of food.

The hotel is perfect if you want a central base in st. Albans, there are some excellent restaurants and shopping area is just walking distance. Love the full length mirror and the hair dryer attached to the wall beside it, also the coffee in the room was very good, the staff were very friendly and helpful The reception and bar area was very small, and there were no extra facilities such as gym etc. a small complaint in the bathroom the shower jel is attached to the wall of the shower and great for having a shower but having a bath......u have to keep pressing the pump several times to try and have a bubble bath!!! Some bubble bath would have been great!!!!

A very comfortable hotel. Friendly and helpful staff who went out of their way to help resolve a personal matter. Rooms are bright, airy and warm and you are able to control the heating yourself. Tasty breakfast though not always hot enough for us.

Fantastic location, friendly and accommodating staff and a comfortable nights sleep! Lift wasn't working which was okay for us as we were only on the second floor but could have been a problem for elderly or infirm. It was New Years Eve so it would have been difficult to get it fixed. However given the support and professionalism of the staff they would have made sure that difficulties were easily overcome.

We have stayed here before. It is a real bargain. In the heart of the city; right by the Cathedral, shops and the beautiful park. St Albans is only twenty minutes away from London by train and this is a great place to stay if you want to look around London but can't afford the hotels.

Hotel staff were welcoming and extremely helpful. Called a taxi and provided a number for a taxi just before setting out for the night after arriving. After checking out & leaving the hotel I realized I left an article of clothing in my room. After speaking with the hotel staff they found my article of clothing and promptly returned it to me via post.

Location was good, staff were friendly and helpful. Room was really clean and shower was great. I thought the room was cold on arrival, and found the temperature difficult to control. Despite leaving the heat on when we went out for the evening, when we got back it had turned itself off again. Breakfast was ok, though we had to wait for the hot food so I had mine as and when it arrived. Overall everything was ok - but no more and slightly overpriced.

Location was good but take a taxi if you're heading to the hotel from the train station. We booked a double room with an extra bed however only 2 of everything is provided (towels, cups etc). Considering the price of this hotel, breakfast should be included.
