Location and cost
I was given a key to a room which had people in it - very awkward for both parties when the door was opened.
The Clarion in St. Albans is a charming hotel that punches above its three star rating. The public areas have an almost boutique feel to them, though the rooms are standard "business traveller", which is fine, but lack surprise and delight features. Overall, a decent quality hotel.
Hotel is a great location. Handy for the Cathedral as just across the road. All shops, market etc close by, just a short walk away. The park and lake are just in the Cathedral walk. Handy for other venues, we walked to St.Michael s Manor to a wedding. Rooms clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and all good value for money, considering the time of year (Dec on a Sat night, lots of parties in town) and hotel location.
Parking can be a bit hit and miss, but not an issue. Allow time as the car park is down the road and if traffic is busy, it can delay your plans
Good facilities and comfortable rooms
Very limited parking, overspill car park quite far and not very convenient and should have been made clearer at time of booking. Unable to use Internet.
The hotel is very comforting and nice, perfectly located, near Cathedral, Christmas market, nice park, restraunts, shopping, everyhting you would want to spend a lovely weekend
The rooms are nice and comfortable. .. the location is great for central town. Reception staff fantastic
I didn't think that the hotel justifies its rates. Its had a nice refit... but the rates since the refit are almost double!
Lovely building, Elegant furnishing Helpful staff
Good location for shops, restaurants and places of interest. Staff very pleasant and helpful.
Nice bed Good BREAKFAST
Central location and comfort in room
5 minute walk to car park down dark streets. As a solo female traveller, that's not appreciated.
Walking distance to all amenities. Clean and modern interior. Staff on reception helpful
I asked for green tea in room which was not provided and when I asked waitress at breakfast she said I was odd which I thought was rude. Bed was uncomfortable
quiet rooms town centre location
no parking no wifi tried to rip-off with second payment even though the room had already been paid for in cash upon arrival (had to insist to get a receipt and this proved necessary since I had to prove I had already paid for the room, what a disgrace)
Location is superb Main building/reception, bar and breakfast room. En-suite was modern and shower particularly good Service from reception staff and breakfast was excellent
Noise transmission from hallway and adjoining rooms.
Location was good.
So overpriced. The proprietor should be ashamed to be charging 5 star prices for a 2 star hotel.
Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable room. Quiet. Perfect location for centre of town.
There wasn't anything that we didn't like
Comfortable and convenient. Central but quiet.
The building was lovely staff very attentive and the room was clean and we'll presented. Followed up with a well cooked breakfast.
There was nothing not to like about this hotel
Very helpful staff
Bit of a walk from car park if you couldn't get into one at hotel
Hotel staff is awfully helpful& kind. Location wise perfectly situated in st albans for shopping or city tour. Thanks again.
City centre location, close to shops
Car park, it was are first visit, at night and a little stressful finding a place to park. Now we no better so should be less stressful next time
Very poor instructions. could not find key pad. Drop off area full with double parking. Staff must insist that customers checking in only park for say 15 minutes. A sign emphasizing this should be in a prominent place and the instructions should be vigorously enforced!
Stayed at this hotel for two nights. Excelent location close to the cathedral, park and historic city centre with a good variety of pubs, bars and restaurants and shopping. Staff were very helpful. Nice spacious room with comfy bed. Good sized bathroom with excellent shower. Hotel has a small bar which is good for a night cap, but otherwise quiet throughout the day.
It would have been nice to have bath robes included. Also the continental breakfast in bed option at almost £10 is a rip off so we didn't bother. Cafe Rouge next door do excellent breakfasts at great value if you get their 2-1 offer via their website.
Staff were friendly & efficient. Bed very comfortable. Breakfast buffet excellent. Shower was good temperature and power
Bathroom extractor fan not working. Noise of people going to bed at 2am. May have been staff.
