The bar connected to the hotel was quality. Hotel location fantastic. Parking was a nice luxury to have. Tv in room was quality. Good room for storage of clothes. Fridge although we didn't notice it until the day we left. Asked if we wanted fresh towels during stay from cleaning staff The carpet had fresh sick on it, just cleaned and still wet and smelling? Found 2 dirty socks from previous customers in the room (not removed and not particularly difficult to find either). Very dated. Dirty carpets. Windows dirty

There was no parking at the hotel although the website says otherwise. It is purely if available type a of thing. As we arrived , there was no parking which led to an argument (not really) with the man who apreared from the hotel. He tried to arrange the another hotel's parking elsewhere. Finally,he managed to get another car moved out from the parking for us to park.Besides, the room we stayed was basic as there was no tv remote and the bed wasn't the best. Room curtains were partially hanging and windows were of poor quality. The worse thing was the noise in the night from corridor when peple walk. The floor boards were making such a loud noise and we could n't sleep at all. I'll never stay in this hotel.

Location was ideal for city center and metro center. Bathroom was clean though a tap was swinging loose,,bedroom carpet was grubby,as was the 2 chairs(one with stuffing hanging out) and stool was grubby, two of us stayed for 3 nights and the complimentary coffee was a total of 3 sachets, main concern was the noise from other guests returning late (after 3 and being really drunk and noisy, also someone kept going past and knocking loudly on our door,6am...;630 Am. Very annoying,so in all we did not get much sleep ..we paid more than we could have staying at the novotel near the airport, where I have stayed before and is a lovely hotel with swimming pool..so I think the Carlton price is vastly overated just because of it`s location and trendy yuppy bar where they obviously spend their profits..two star room ..if that ..never again.oh yes and we had to check out at 6am..for our flight home..the porter was "somewhere ..and when he managed to come was still "elsewhe" as you could smell the hashish,he didn`t know what he was doing.wondered were we asking for a deposit back? I told him I had made 2 phone calls which I expected to have to pay for but I don`t think he knew what to do so told us it was ok...none of the usual..goodbye,was everything ok,have you enjoyed your stay...laughable, exept for how much this cost us

The location of the Carlton Hotel is excellent, on Osborne road in the heart of Jesmond, plenty of bars and restaurants and a short walk into the city centre. If you are more into the quiet life then you are a short walk from Jesmond Dene which is a very pretty green area of Newcastle. The room was great, adequate tea and coffee making facilities, quiet and room was very well kept. For me the hotel was in an excellent location and the standard was more than acceptable. My only criticism of the hotel is that it was not clear that the breakfast was continental. Please do not misinterpret me, the breakfast was more than sufficient (variety of cereals, toast, ham, cheese, fruit etc) but when booking it stated full breakfast included. This point was reinforced by two other guests who came into the breakfast area thinking full english breakfast was available and ended up going to the cafe across the road (which is very reasonably priced for English breakfast, eggs benedict etc). Again, I had a great stay at this Hotel, I would just suggest they are clearer on what full breakfast is.

Near city center £55 for a room with a filthy carpet which had big dark stains from the door to the window. The windows were old sash windows which rattled in the wind. The wardrobe no handles on it as they had been broken off and just left, so were dangerous, the tv was very small and very old with no remote control so could not just relax in bed as I had to get up and down to change channel and switch the tv off, they advertise hotel parking but only had very few spaces that the staff in the hotel use also, and offered no alternative parking if the car park was full. I have used booking.com on a few occation and this room was by far the dirtiest room I have every had. In my opinion this room was not value for money and I was very dissapointed. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I should be claiming my money back.

All I can say is that the 2 staff I met were very helpful and polite and breakfast was reasonable. Could not park my car so parked in another hotel illegally, had no choice! Curtains falling down in room with mankey rotting and condensated windows. Very tired and grubby in the communial areas. Bed was very uncomfortable Didnt know that the bar (Spybar) adjoining was part of the hotel with very loud music till late

The hotel is very central with a metro station close by. Reasonably priced. Stayed on Friday & Saturday night, on 1st floor overhead the reception and bar and found it a little noisy up to midnight due to stag & hen groups. Had to leave the windows open as there was something wrong with the heating and could not turn off.

This was a terrible hotel the room was small and dinghy the floors creaked throughout the hotel and the carpets in all ares were threadbare and dirty. The handle om the bathroom door fell off the bedside lights fell down and the shelf in the bathroom was falling down. The walls were so thin we could clearly hear the guy next door snoring all night and were woken up at 6am by people coming and going not a restfull night. The breakfast finished at 9.30 but was not much of a breakfast anyhow certainly not worth gatting up for the "buffet" turned out not to be hot food but yesterays cold ham and a bit of salad served by waitresses who really couldnt be bothered I had to go through 4 knives before I found a clean one. All in all a hotel geared to budget workers travelling on business and not really fussed where they stay We were looking for a nice hotel to spend the night in aftyer getting into newcastle airport at midnight This was not it!

Leaving. Parking was limited. Had to leave car in side road, that had restrictions. Had to remove car by 07.30am. After 40 mins driving around for a non restrictive parking area, manaaged to get a parking spot at rear of Hotel. No food on offer, was told by reception I could find a carryout and bring it back, or go down the down for a meal.At after 9pm, and a long day, this was the last thing I wanted to here.

Unfortunately our trip was ruined by being unable to sleep due to a group of youths who ran the corridors all night knocking at doors etc.The night porter did his best but to no avail. We left the hotel at 05.00am on the sunday morning. The night porter knocked £30 of the bill. At thsi moment of time I am writing to the Cairn Group expressing my disappointment.I Have used your services for Rome in the past and again I have booked via you for Florence in March 2012 so can only hope for the best. Situated in a lovely area.Perhaps too many students.

I was in Newcastle with my daughter for an open day at the university. This hotel was an easy walk from the centre of town, and provided everything we needed. There was a very lively atmosphere at the bar, and a great mix of people. We enjoyed the lively buzz at the bar. It wouldn't suit anyone looking for a very quiet atmosphere, but then, that's not what you go to Newcastle for anyway!

Very helpful and friendly staff. The matress was really comfy! As it was the Great North Run weekend it was slightly on the expensive side for what you got as the prices were increased.
