It certainly does not portrae the images on web site, however it does look like it has been recently taken over and new owners are possibly working towards a total refurbishment. Car parking facilities are very poor. As a frequent traveller and user of hotels, I would much rather pay the extra £15-20 and stay with one of the large chains ensuring a good nights rest. The bed at the Gilson was the worst I have ever slept in at any hotel.

Advertised as "recently refurbished", I would hate to have seen this hotel before it was refurbished!! Photos on site look as though it is a different hotel completely. Only staff ever in the hotel seem to be foreign with poor English and/or teenage kids!! Full English breakfast was appalling, not even any tea/coffee available, definitely not worth £7.50!! Very disturbed sleep due to all the floor boards in the hotel being extremely squeaky. When I rang to enquire if there was a hairdryer in the room the person answering the phone greeted me with "Yo", then hung up. Should have listened to my doubts then and changed our booking to another hotel!! Definitely one to be missed!!

Upon arriving there were no parking spaces available, I was told by the hotel staff to park behind a van which in effect I was blocking the van in and 4other cars. I asked several times if this was ok and was told yes and not to worry. We went into the room, we booked a twin but got a double. The bed was broken, the curtains were falling off, walls had 'steam' stains on them, we tried the shower and it leaked everywhere and flooded the bathroom, the toilet made loud noises at random times, the rooms were far too hot, we had to pay a 20 pound deposit which we weren't aware of before arriving. The following morning at 7am we got woken up from the hotel reception asking me to move my car to enable someone to get out! This hotel really needs some work doing on the parking, they should have ample parking for the amount of guests staying. To say this hotel has had a 'refurbishment' I would say it is in desperate need of an update! All the floor boards are creaky and is not a comfortable stay. Would not go back and I would not recommend to a friend... As they say, you get what u pay for I suppose!!

The peace and quiet even though it is on a main road junction slept soundly. Would suggest maybe some small toiletries for bathroom.

The hotel is badly in need of refurbishment. The room was tired and the bathroom in particular was very much in need of a makeover. there was no remote for the TV. I had to leave a £20 key deposit which I have never had to do at any other hotel. When I went for breakfast (£6) at 0815, the hotplate had been turned off so all the food was cold. A waiter asked me to get what I wanted and he would "warm it up" for me - this is not what I expect when the hotel is supposed to serve breakfast until 1000. The car parking is an absolute joke - about 5 tiny spaces in front of the hotel. Needless to say, this is an experience I will not be repeating, and I would not recommend this hotel in any way.

Central location. Night duty staff helpful. Parking was limited no space on arrival at hotel, had to double park and get up early am to move the car. Some of the limited parking spaces in the car park where marked as private and subject to clamping. The room was noisey during the night, outside traffic and music. The door had a whole in it under the lock, unsure of security of room. The door was missing off the cupboard, there was enamel missing off the bath. No milk was provided for tea and coffee making facilities. Only one towel provided for 2 people in a room. The water was turned off prior to us vacating the room by the workmen. The breakfast was poor little vegatarian choice at the cooked breakfast and the continental was limited to toast and cereals. The coffee served at breakfast was not fresh but sachets of nescafe.

It's location, privacy and quietness. On a business trip, it was exactly what I required, without frills or fuss. Further facilities were available but I did not need to use them. All this at approximately half what I expected to pay. Could hardly be bettered.

Very poor lighting in the room, the dim-lighting bulbs gave you a headache, the corridors smelt really bad, mainly of cigarettes.

Centrally located; inexpensive; clean; helpful staff. Not very guest friendly. E.G. Only one towel in a double room; short lead on kettle with no convenient powerpoint; dim room lighting - missing bulbs and no bedside tables or lamps; inadequate provision of boiling water for tea at breakfast.

The room was clean and quite big, staff were helpful and the food in the evening was very good for value. The bedroom was far to hot and could not turn it down, it was on all through the night so got no sleep as we had to have the window open and it was very noise. Went to have lunch in the bar and got told no food was served until 5pm but they had notices up about doing lunches.

The Gilson Hotel is a nice hotel, visiting Hull frequently I have stayed at the Gilson Hotel previously and will stay there again. Parking is good. Light in the bathroom didn't work, being New Years Eve the maintenance department was away which is understandable. Booking.com was my only contact with the Gilson Hotel before I arrived and the Hotel had me booked for four rooms, I only booked two and my receipt only showed two. The hotel understood the problem and I wasn't charged, but I felt bad for the hotel as they might have turned people away as they were almost fully booked. Must have been a problem with the Booking.com website.

It was centrally located and had free parking. The room was a good size. The bathroom was new and nice. The sign outside wasn't lit and it was dark-I drove past it several times before finding it. The room was shabby-there was a missing drawer in the chest of drawers. The towel looked old. There was no milk with the tea and coffee and I had to go and ask for it.

I only paid 29 pounds and was unsure as to what I would get for my money. From the outside it looked a little dated and made me question my choice, however The service on arrival was very good and the room was basic but clean. And I think overall for £29 I made the right choice and when I need to stay Over in hull again I would definantly try this budget hotel again.
