The Queen's Head is a country pub from the 15th century, located west of Salisbury. It has real log fires, plenty of character and a tasty selection of food, wine and Real Ale.

Score from 25 reviews Very good
Lovely staff. They book a table automatically with a room booked, and that's really good as it was a busy Saturday night. The food was good, and it was very comfortable
Quiet secluded spot with very friendly landlord and staff. Didn't get to try the restaurant but the reports are excellent. The breakfast was really excellent.
A little difficult to find even with satnav.
The balance between friendliness and lack of intrusiveness. A very good place to stay
Only one difficulty. The room over the bar was noisy 6 to 11. jolly chat from the pub. It did not disturb us but if we had had a child we were putting to bed it would have been difficult.
Great food, nice bed and warm room. Very clean.
Breakfast was not available until 9.00am. Would liked this to have been 7:30 am - 8:00am to allow early onward travel following a breakfast.
A wonderful location, staff that were so helpful and cheerful. Breakfasts to die for, the best black sausage I have ever eaten. Good selection of beer, would love to have the Compasses as my local
Can not think of anything
Country pub ambience
Great welcome and breakfast. Good advice and help when we needed it
In the middle of nowhere, very pretty, quiet location. Excellent food and lovely friendly staff.
Room 2 very noisy with boiler/pipework noises, luckily we werent planning a lie in!
Comfortable bed, decent pillows, good wifi, delicious food and wonderful staff.
The setting and friendliness of the staff, and also very good food
Character features of low ceilings, exposed beams, thatched roof. Pleasant location in the countryside, close to Stourhead House and Gardens. Food was good, breakfast was excellent ( beautiful scrambled eggs with loads of smoked salmon)
Room above the bar very noisy. Our bed was a shocker - very creaky bed frame and mattress with dodgy springs that went 'sproing!' every time you moved. Furniture and bath fittings dated. For the room rate charged, it was not good value for money compared to similar pub accommodation.
Very friendly and helpful staff, comfortable room, traditional pub in beautiful surroundings
Could do with a bit of tlc around the edges. The bathrooms are a bit tired and could do with a deep clean or upgrade-especially the grubby doors and loo!
Good directions Well kept ales Location & buildings Excellent breakfast
the whole package was fantastic, from the minute we first stepped through the door to the last minute. Food was second to non. The staff were so helpful as was the owner He ran a very good inn many thanks will see you again
We had a fantastic, relaxing stay at the Compasses Inn: we liked everything, the atmosphere was magic, the food was delicious, the staff very kind, friendly and professional and the location in the middle of the nature is simply amazing!
Location Food Room
Very friendly welcome. Very pleasent staff.... Charming inn. Rooms very good size... Lovely area to drive round.... Only negative would be there was a bit,of outside noise from staff talking and the other guests coming back, from the pub a bit noisy, but it wasnt late and lasted 30 or so minutes only....
Wonderful, peaceful location. Excellent atmosphere in an old country pub. Splendid food and service. Huge room with ensuite bathroom. Friendly staff.
Didn't bother me but if you arrive before 6pm, the pub is closed and there may be nobody to let you into you room. You should make prior arrangements with the landlord.
Staff Food Real Ale & Cider Location
Was hard to find, should heve had better directions, so my fault really.
Everything. Food, wine, staff, location, pub. Great breakfast too. Comfy bed, good pillows, good towels, nice toiletries. Free Wifi.
Wifi a bit hit and miss in the room but not their fault as it is out in the sticks and full Wifi available downstairs in the pub itself and it was free! Take note big hotel chains.
Kind staff country walks & history of area Largest stone & thatch Tithe Barn in England.Good food & excellent breakfast
The kitchen extractor fan adjoined my room & the bed shook withthe force of the fan so I sslept on the floor until I woke at 230am when there was peace & got into comfy bed & slept well
Building well maintained and great character. Friendly efficient staff. Very good food
We prefer a softer foam matteress, but most hotels seem to go for harder sprung or very hard foam so we presume that is what other guests prefer!
service and food was excellent and worthy of a top restaurant!!
Beautiful old country inn. Great service and very friendly staff.
Staff amazing nothing to much trouble , early breakfast sorted by fantastic tray selection in room before leaving Bar , pub itself simply fantastic staff great , atmosphere quintessentially English as you would dream a great old pub would be , stay again you Bet!
