This charming, family-run, 400 year old farmhouse has been converted to a friendly, 8-bedroom hotel and restaurant, easily accessible from the A350. The restaurant, offering a modern British menu, uses local produce wherever possible and is open in the evening from Monday to Saturday (pre booking is essential). The hotel is situated on the outskirts of Melksham, close to the beautiful Wiltshire countryside. It is within a 20-minute drive of Bath, Bradford on Avon, Lacock, Bowood House, Castle Combe, Trowbridge and Devizes, and a 15-minute drive from junction 17 of the M4. Hotel Rooms: 8

Country cottage look and feeling, snug but comfortable room. Relaxed atmosphere, well presented restaurant, food was excellent, freshly made, good quality food. Would need to ring hotel though ahead as it runs on pre-bookings for an evening meal. Family run, friendly. Only one issue - room pricing found it expensive for one person at £72 for one night however price did include breakfast. If budget allows I would stay again. (if using sat nav to find it don't turn left at the pub keep going on the main road for 100yrds it is facing onto the main road). Also I booked a single room as cheaper price at £60 with breakfast, but on arrival found they were adjacent to the hotel in converted stables - I'm sure they would have been fine, going on the room I did stay in, however I was on my own and felt uncomfortable going across the yard, so upgraded to a double to stay on the premises.

Friendly staff The place was hard to find, waited outside a locked front door for what seemed ages before someone opened so I could check in, the food was mediocre.

The hostess was incredibly friendly and such a lovely lady. The breakfast was lovely and it has a real home from home feel. The rooms were really clean and cosy and very inviting. Lovely old property, very well kept. On our departure the male host was not so friendly.

Lovely breakfast ,comfortable bed , quiet and peaceful . The toilet was blocked when we arrived , we told reception and they did something , however it remained blocked and wouldn't flush when we arrived back in the evening The bathroom was cold and there was no clip to hang the shower and no shower screen no curtains at the windows which overlooked houses and because of the toilet smelly . the bathroom let the otherwise excellent facilities down . We were only staying the night so no point in saying any more to the proprietor .

Sam and her team made us thoroughly welcome at The Conigre. Our room was large, well equiped and comfortable, being tastefully decorated, with a superb en-suite. Everything you could need for a stay away from home is provided. Sam is a fantastic chef, do eat at the hotel, you will not be disappointed. The Conigre is well located for sightseeing in the Cotswolds, Bath and Bristol, there are a number of National Trust properties within easy reach. We would really recommend a stay at The Conigre Rooms, a warm and freindly welcome awaits you, in a beautiful home away from home. We will be returning for sure.

The food was marvellous Not a complaint but hopefully constructive comments. We booked a table for 7.00 to eat at 7.30. There was no dedicated bar staff to explain the procedure. When we did get a drink and asked for the menu it was still being prepared & printed. We did not get our main meal until 8.50! It was absolutely fabulous. They just need to tighten up their speed of getting food to the table. It would not deter me from going again.

The restaurant food was particularly enjoyable. We had breakfast and evening meals at the Conigre and found the cuisine to be expertly prepared and reasonably priced. The proprietor and staff were accessible, courteous and helpful at all times. Our room was comfortable and clean.

The personal touch from a family run hotel is wonderful, food is cooked as ordered and individual requirements dealt with, with ease. Owners & staff are all sincerely eager to help with anything asked of them. The public rooms in the main house ideal for relaxing with a book and a drink or coffee after a long day driving or sightseeing, without the need to be formal as in some establishments. Food great, freshly cooked by a lady who loves her work! A home from home - with staff!

Before our stay, the hotel reception contacted me by email to enquire if we wanted dinner for the evening. They were very helpful and quick to respond. The food and service was excellent. The rooms were cosy and clean. We would stay there again without hesitation.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay from the moment we walked in to the beautiful double room with a clean, fresh and stylish ensuite. The husband and wife owned, 500 year old grade 2 listed building offered a romantic and characterful base, convenient for Bath and the Cotswolds. The restaurant is tastefull and spacious and the food was to die for. This is a must for any visitor, whether they are staying at the hotel or not. All the staff were friendly and made us feel almost pert of the family. We would recommend every one to visit. For me this place was Five Star all the way

Staff were friendly. The double room was quite spacious (four poster) and it was clean and had all the usual tea making facilities etc. Dinner menu had plenty to choose from and the food was good. Main building from the front was attractive, and sitting areas / bar / restaurant were pleasant. Service was fairly slow (though staff were friendly, they were very casual). Luckily we weren't in too much of a hurry. While the old main building from the front was very attractive, first impressions driving into the courtyard (you don't see the front when you arrive) weren't terribly favourable and could do with a bit of tarting up or at least a few plants/flowers and something to screen the ugly/noisy aircon/extractor fan from the kitchen. I had wrongly assumed the hotel was more rural, but it is right on the road side to the town centre. It's very easy to miss, and sign age could be more visible from the road. Definitely recommend getting the online directions which were helpful. Their own website is not good. Doesn't work on Firefox, takes ages to load on ie (a homemade Flash website I think - style over substance) and misses off details like the restaurant opening times - like it doesn't say they do diner on it. Another reviewer commented on hard beds - and mine was, but I don't mind hard beds that much. I had an electric heater beside my bedside which may a very annoying clicking thunck sound even though it was switched off. Bit like a tap dripping, it became very annoying and at two in the morning I realised where the sound was coming from so I crawled under the bed to pull the plug, which did the trick.

The staff (owners) made us very welcome when we arrived, this is very much a family run hotel, which includes the family cat, very friendly! The food was excellant with a good choice, although we did find the service rather slow, especially on Sunday morning as we were in rather a hurry to check out! Would certainly stay there again and recommend it to friends and family.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. I asked to be upgraded to the main building as I was a single traveller. This was done at a cost of £5.00 to a double room which was extremely comfortable. The breakfast the next morning was very good and the owners and staff very friendly and helpful. I would definitely return to this hotel and will recommend it to all my friends
