Ambience, attentiveness of staff, superb setting and rooms. Excellent food.
It would have been nice to have had a map of the hotel when we checked in as we struggled to find our room and as we had not been to the hotel before we didn't know what was where including the outside space.
Breakfast & dinner were excellent. Bathroom, bed and facilities in the room were also good quality with a nice old fashion feel.
A generator or aircon system (not a room aircon), came on each night and woke me several times (RM152). The general heating of the building seemed too hot, but it was mild outside for the time of year. Room was too hot on arrival and radiator too hot to touch, but easily rectified.
It was a lovely hotel, and the staff were extremely helpful, I will enjoy another visit in the future. Hopefully the weather will be kinder so we can enjoy the grounds.
Wonderful building full of interesting architecture and furniture pieces. Location is quite which is good for sleeping. Good buffet breakfast in the morning.
The restaurant in the evenings is poor. We waited 30 minutes for a member of staff to take a food and drink order. The white wine was served warm with the option of adding ICE!! We tried the bar menu on the second evening and waited 45 minutes for a burger and chips. Great facility, but there is a need for staff training.
Room Service Breakfast
Bar area too small
The staff were very friendly. The traditional way and authentic lay out and syle . the food .
The pillows hard and lumpy . Kept me awake and had bad neck . Due to procedure as it got put to us . Could not sit where we wanted to for late coffee and snacks . A whole 2hours before dinner . Which as a paying guest should be able to sit where we fancy. Get rid of those gazebos in dining area. Staff tryed to sit guests there and every time guest did not want to sit in a bird cage on show . The dining area could do with being bigger .Or another area similar with class out look so guest's can sit where they like no matter what time of day and have snacks, without having to sit inside. Breakfast was very nice . But by time coffee and toast arrived we had nearly finished. I like coffee as soon as seated for breakfast. Staff seemed to favour speacial guest . Whilst eating i feel they should be left to eat, and occasionally checking if everything is ok. In room, dust all around radiator . But loved that I could have it on all night to keep warm . As I was awake due to pillows. Also exspelair could do with a vac and there was a dirty bowl in bathroom on the unit. Also staff were a bit slow attending to our needs whilst at bar waiting to order as we got tolled we had to order food from there. Food was good. Staff were very friendly but due to certain procedures the way the hotel was run . Staff wernt on the ball with guest needs. Eg.waiting at bar as we got sent there . After beinng tolled we could not sit in the conservatory. Nearly had to sit in dark due to lights arnt allowed on till Christmas. Having to wait for coffee at breakfast and to sit inside due dining room full . All these things are not the staffs fault but due to how it is run. I would love to stay again . But I hope all these minor issues are sorted by then. All these little things make a huge difference to a guest's stay. Which I feel are over looked. Go to other hotels and check how they do the simple things like making everyone feel like an equal. Not money talks.
All but restaurant
Don't eat in restaurant order bar meals and eat in one of the lovely niches around the wonderful ground floor
this was a surprise stay for my husband as a birthday treat,we enjoyed the whole weekend, the lovely room we stayed in was so comfortable and cosy, the staff were all so nice and nothing was any trouble always available if needed and with a smile.the breakfast was fantastic with a wide range of fruit and cereal and everything else we needed, the cooked breakfast was great,it filled us both up for the day,we were so relaxed when we returned home,we would recommend staying here to all our friends, and will return ourselves in the future,a great weekend away.
There was nothing that we didnt like,a great stay.
Full of Character with a charm all of it's own. Excellent staff and food.
Not the cheapest evening meal but well worth it!
Location, surroundings, ambience, food was wonderful
Had to wait an hour to be served a drink due to two, yes two, weddings on the day we were there. Told they were busy - not my problem, I'm sorry. Noisy wedding guests returning to the room in the small hours kept us awake. Too many negative points for an evening that was well, well in excess of £300
The hotel had an amazing look to it. It managed to have a luxurious feel to it, while maintaining an aura of antiquity and style. We especially enjoyed the many nooks and crannies to be explored and the gardens in the back were delightful, despite the inclement weather that we viewed them in.
The prices of drinks in the bar, were quite high, even by English standards.
Feature room and antique feel was a novelty and unique.
While overall service was good, staff in the restaurant could be more accommodating eg arriving for afternoon tea at 4.30 and being told should have booked months before. Seemed like we were putting people out when bedroom brochure implied available to all guests until 5.30. Staff made it feel very difficult.
The house and the grounds was OK, but not worth the cost of the bedroom.
The room was dirty. The chambermaids need to understand what a vacuum is. It was really dusty. Not enough tea and coffee. It as nothing like what we thought we booked. It was a very disappointing wedding night stay. Please don`t stay here.
The surroundings and history the chairs in waiting area ! Nice to open patio doors to walk outside the sandwiches were amazing
The fact they had a wedding fair on I had no clue me and my husband felt in the way and couldn't sit anywhere ! And wos told to leave restaurant unfair really as we were paying guests . No heating in room then came on in early hours and then we were really warm ! Lighting in room wos not right as the bathroom light would not work without all the main lights on same at night so wos in complete darkness so quite scary ! Also would of liked a bigger bath as wos our anniversary so a bit disserpointing as I did request this ! Also charging 5 pound for ice that's daylight robbery really
The rooms and whole building are wonderful. Rooms are large and very unique and comfortable.
The pub food was good. Seemed like the only authentic rooms were the entry and pub in the cellar.
The beds were hard. The showers were terrible. The whole place to me seemed like smoke and mirrors. Looks good in their photos but seemed cheap once you got there.
Location, staff, dinner (had roomService)
Wifi was down, asked if it could be resolved and didn't hear back on it
Perfect place to stay for a relaxing break. Beautiful atmospheric hotel, comfy bed, fabulous food, friendly, attentive staff, all set in a beautiful garden surrounded by a country park. We loved it and will definitely go back!
There wasn't anything!
History, location, grounds, breakfast.
Excellent friendly staff Lovely food Fantastic building
Room service took over an hour Looking a little tatty compared to last time I stayed
Love the atmosphere and attention of keeping the original feel of the building . Staff are friendly and willing to help with your requests. Grounds are nice to have a walk around and are well kept. Have been a few times now and will be back again.
Its outside look
Its inside look It is dark and cluttered with extensions looking tired with poor décor I like the old history but it looks like it hasn't moved on. The history as a hotel now is as important as the history when Monks lived there. Parking is a distance away and in poor weather the walk from the parking to the hotel is frustrating without any help.
Had an unique experience of stay in coombe abbey. Felt like walking in the past century. The private garden was really lovely.
