..and Coombe Abbey has a characteristic that many places are desperate to add to their endless P.R hyperbole, but you can’t buy it or train your staff in it: Originality. Coombe Abbey has both general historical charm and interest swell as private luxury. It is wonderful to be granted that rare commodity: space. Inside the rooms of the main building, and within the spacious grounds, one can relax and be released from the claustrophobic atmosphere of modern life. I arrived back at the hotel from a sell-out concert and chaotic backstage revelry one night, and immediately my spirit found peace. The discreet, professional welcome of the staff and the glorious peace that exists within the pomp and grandeur of the decor… we immediately booked ourselves in for the entire weekend..
excellent breakfast; interesting surroundings
Dinner was disappointing; steak was too tough and pudding was indigestible
The atmosphere and grounds
Everything! The architecture is stunning and provides a real romantic feel
Great ambiance, unique decor and very helpful staff. We arrived late after a dreadful journey but the staff couldn't have been more helpful. The hotel is a wonderful unusual place to stay and we immediately felt at home. The restaurant was relaxed and the food good. Breakfast was excellent.
Having to leave.
It certainly was no ordinary hotel! It felt like we had stepped back in time. The rooms were very comfortable with amazing historical details. Food and service was exceptional. The grounds were beautiful too. A perfect escape!
If you want to go somewhere very special, where you're made to feel like nothing is too much trouble for you, and that the attention to detail regarding your stay is of prime importance, then this is the place to go...it's one of the UK's 'memory-making' venues!! Trust me - we both had the most wonderful time....'Well done Coombe Abbey', a wonderful piece of English Heritage!!
A great building steeped in history
it felt like it needed a refresh
Very helpful and friendly staff. amazing venue with individual rooms. great food. and wonderful grounds to stroll around.
The only minor niggle is that breakfast time was very busy as the hotel was fully booked, an additional breakfast room had been set up, but we had to ask a couple of times for tea/coffee and toast. of which the toast still hadn't arrive by the time we had finished our breakfast.
Wonderful place, romantic grounds super place
The surrounding and the room we stayed in was beautiful staff very friendly
Fabulous character property, friendly and very helpful staff.
Lacks leisure facilities and provides a limited and ordinary bar menu; not up to 4 star standards.
The staff were exellent and made us feel welcome, loved the authenticity and beautiful features of the building.
Our only gripe was that my wife takes skimmed milk in her tea but it was not available.
It is a beautiful building and atmosphere is really charging. First hotel that had instant hot, well pressurised shower :D
was not child friendly as, had to find evening entertainment elsewhere because their options were not child friendly. And while booking i thought i would get better room than we did. it was stunning but description of it did not really met expectations.
what a beautiful place. the best hotel i have stayed in by far. there is so much history in the building and you see it everywhere. the staff are the best i have come across anywhere and are extremely helpful and polite. the hotel is extremely well priced for what you get compared to others and as for the food…..well what can i say, shrimp, wild duck breast and chocolate fondant in an extremely pleasant restaurant 10/10 coombe abbey, we will be back.
Everything. The decor, the furnishings, the indescribably comfortable bed, the dinner was amazing, as well as the staff and the surroundings, the perfect place for a pre-Valentines getaway.
Nothing, it was faultless.
I have stayed here many times before and keep going back, it the perfect hide away for a romantic getaway. And a lovely stroll in the garden and park. Always keeps its wow factor.
The restaurant staff are not very attentive, particularly during breakfast.
Everything was perfect, most friendless of staff i have ever met. Lovely stay, will definately return .
The ambience of the hotel was wonderful. I expected Henry 8 to step out of the shadows
nothing, except it was raining (lol)
Ambience and decor fabulous with surrounding grounds that made you feel you were in a stately home. Staff were fabulous, efficient and courteous. Had a fabulous time.
Super staff. friendly, efficient and personable. Food OK though not sophisticated, great setting amidst a fine parkland. Interesting building.
Almost all areas are far,far too dark and badly lit. Reading in our room was impossible unless in bed with a very harsh spot downlight. The make up lights in the bathroom were useless too! I had to take the wine list to another area of the dining room in order to find a light bright enough to read it!! OK, so its just our taste, but the decor is really awful and in conflict with the fabulous building itself...it doesn't matter that much but it is so very Kitsch as to be a bit of a laugh...sorry.
The building is fascinating; the food was good and the service was great. No reason not to give it 5 stars
Location - wow, Very cozy, Very relaxing, Comfiest bed ever slept on, Room absolutely gorgeous, Hotel and gardens a pleasure to look at, Afternoon tea a must try
Shower was not the best, Bath could have been a little bit bigger to reflect price of room, Standard of room service food quite poor for the price
Stunning building. Nice and quiet hotel . Room was a good size with four poster bed. Shower was superb. Ideal for romantic getaway
We liked the overall look and feel of the hotel, the resturant was very nice and the breakfast was really pleasent. Good portion sizes when eating from the bar menu.
Being very picky the room we had whilst very nice was a bit chilly and we wished we had gone for the option of a quilt instead of the standard blanket. In the hotels defence it was an extremely cold night!!
