Fabulous,
Score from 205 reviews
“ I loved the 15th century environment, making us travel back in time and imagine how people must have felt at that time. ”
Ana,
Guimarães
Originally a 12th-century Cistercian abbey, this 4-star hotel is set in 500 acres of picturesque grounds. A 15-minute drive from Coventry, it offers elegant rooms decorated with historical artifacts. All rooms have scenic views over the courtyard, lawns or beautiful tree-lined drive. Each also has satellite TV and facilities for making tea and coffee. Guests can dine in the hotel’s finely furnished à la carte restaurant. There is a changing Sunday lunch menu, and the Garden Bar serves afternoon tea with sandwiches, scones and clotted cream. Location and setting was beautiful. The house itself was stunning, grounds were lovely. The staff were rude and useless. The noise from other guests and a wedding party were unbearable. The food and drink were overpriced and underwhelming, of poor quality.

The restaurant is excellent both because of the service as well as the quality of the food. The 15th century setting is very nice, especially because the quality of the facilities has been upgraded to an excellent level, without losing the 15th century atmosphere. WiFi coverage was good in the room and in the restaurant.

The atmosphere of the Abbey was very authentic. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our bedroom was tastefully decorated and clean. We had afternoon tea which was delicious, and we also had an evening meal which too was excellent. The grounds were beautiful. Coming Home!!!

First class historical 11th century property with outstanding gardens. Some confusion with non-hotel guests (members of the public) wandering around thinking the Hotel is open to the public! No complaints other than the rooms are too dark but will definitely stay again! Philip Gunn See above comment regarding poor bedroom lighting

The medieval theme and the relaxed feel of the place along with the setting and the excellent beds The breakfast service was a bit slow and the staff a bit less engaging than I have found in other hotels

The building is fascinating, and needs more time than available on an overnight stay to fully discover. It was not at all obvious which parts were built when, and sometimes the gothic style was not conducive to comfort. Certainly an interesting experience. We had a good evening meal, and the staff were friendly and helpful. However, the total price was high and I was not sure that was justified by the limited choice and the occasional stylish touches.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Although I booked a single room it was quite spacious and clean and had all necessary facilities. We had afternoon tea in one of the restaurants and that was also excellent.

The hotel is surrounded by lovely land. It's a perfect place for a special occasion like a wedding Bathroom wasn't cleaned up to standard. I had to complain to the reception. Could easily get lost as not well sign posted after reception.

We went for the Medievil Banquet which was fantastic but the whole hotel was stunning, couldn't fault a thing. The costume company that hires out for the banquet forgot to deliver our costumes but the lady at reception sorted it out very quickly. The room was gorgeous, the best bit was without doubt was the shower, although it was more like a waterfall. Fantastic experience, definitely recommend. Nothing to do with the hotel but there isn't a jot of phone reception in the hotel and surrounding gardens. I was only annoyed because I couldn't upload a picture and make my friends jealous :-D My only real niggle was the fact that there was a window in our bathroom that looked out to the entrance of the Abbeygate building. Considering its quite low, perhaps it should be frosted.

The surroundings and hotel its self The service when we ordered dinner and the fact one of our friends who was already staying the was forgotten in our order! The food was not great either the whole embihonce of the hotel with its granduer of it. Even just a simple burger I was expecting some thing special? But disappointed ! Our complaint which we took up with the duty manager was satisfactory eventually but the whole experience did ruin the point of our visit. To surprise our best friend on her 40th birthday. Which I am sure you can imagine is a very big thing. Our room was nice and breakfast truly delightful thank you. Craig Bonnett

Lovely hotel and surroundings. Staff very friendly and polite. We waited hour and half for our first course and the portions were a little small. An explanation from the staff and complimentary drink would have been nice. We were assured the following day that this had never happened before and given an apology ( be it a little late) This has not put us off returning as the hotel is magical.

Very atmospheric and charming hotel. The bar had run out of cask beer and my first choice of meal from the menu was also unavailable. However, I still enjoyed my second choice!

Comfortable bed. No answer to telephone contact 30 mins prior to arrival. Car park some distance from reception - notice asking for help with bags only seen at entrance! No-one on reception - waited about 10 mins. Room: Dark and dismal, poorly lit, small, cheap furniture, only one bedside cabinet - not enough room for a second one. Leg space only on window side of bed. No air conditioning control ( indeed, was there any air-conditioning?) Shower very old and not user friendly - no detachable spray. Evening meal was expensive, below standard expected, and small in quantity. Breakfast was appalling (anaemic, sloppy scrambled egg) very restricted choice for this standard of hotel. We will definitely NOT be returning!
