Please ignore the reviews, they are unfair. Okay it is tired, but it is clean, the staff are friendly and rooms comfortable. We stayed in rooms 5/6 which had a fantastic view of dartmoor, and the breakfast was very good. The hotel is located on the edge of the village which is quiet but you only have a 10 minute walk to the centre. So please stay and give good reviews remember you are paying 2 star prices and you get the bonus of a pool / leisure faclilities, what do people want???

All staff friendly and helpful. But not intrusive. Good quality breakfast. Plenty of choice. More than adequate parking. This is not a complaint just an observation. The lighting in our bathroom was very dim, really not adequate for purpose. Menu for evening meal very limited. If they want people to stay and eat at the hotel, and not go in search of a local eattery; 3 choices of meal [1 meat/ 1 fish/1 veg] no encouragement to stay and have to decide what to order.

The staff were undergoing a change of management but coped well and were polite, helpful and courteous at all times. The food in the evenings was excellent value for money. They clearly have a gifted chef. The 4 poster bed was unexpected and welcomed as was the spacious room with lovely old fashioned furniture. It was lovely to have use of Gym, Sauna, Spa and Swimming Pool and the view of Dartmoor from our room was glorious. There were mature hotel gardens, though not immense, were obviously well tended. Whilst we had a fantastic weekend away, I do have to say that nearly everything needed updating or mending! The manual was really out of date as was the décor. The hotel had a tired look that I'm sure that new management and an abounding pot of money will rectify. I wish them every success as there is so much potential there.

Staff at the hotel were very friendly. The bed was large and comfortable. The swimming pool was just the right temperature. Nice breakfast. It was nice to be able to have a jug of fresh milk to go with the tea in our rooms. Standard of decoration was a bit tired, in places the wall paper was peeling.

We were very pleased with the people who work there, very family orientated and very smiley, kids were very fine there, we benefited from the pool which is in the hotel, the food was good and the kids were happy. The hotel needs the renovation but we liked the hotel very much!

Excellent price for a hotel with pool, sauna and gym. Very friendly and attentive staff Good food. Would benefit from a little freshening up and modernisation. A slight improvement in the room cleaning regime would be appreciated

The hotel was clean and the bed linen good and comfortable. The whole place however, seemed tired, had seen better days, and tatty. In my room there was flecking paintwork and damage wallpaper badly in need of repair. An adequate breakfast menu, but lacked a variety of fruit.

No nonsense very reasonably priced hotel in superb location, with easy access to both Dartmoor and the South Devon Jurassic coast. The food was a wonderful surprise. Dinner was home cooked, delicious and very good value for money. Not for the picky. Shower was temperamental and klittle idiosyncratic touches would have angered the pedantic - a bedside light not working here, a handle missing of the chest of drawers there. But you pays your money and you takes your choice.

Friendly staff, good rooms, and well priced Paying problem, they thought it had been paid to you. Confusing that you give your card details online, but still have to pay when you arrive which is worrying as to why you need card details!

The owner was a fantastic guy - very friendly without being "in your face". Sauna and pool were good. Bar area was quiet and able to enjoy a drink and read a book. Room could have done with decorating - starting to feel "old"

This delightful hotel will take by surprise! The service was really both personal and friendly. The single room, although rather small, was clean and comfortable. The bed was so relaxing and enjoyed a good night's sleep during my stay. As for the location is ideal right on the edge of Dartmoor, and Plymouth and Exeter on the a38 were very convenient. Furthermore the hotel was a quiet district of Bovey Tracey within walking distance of shops.

We were treated very nicely at Coombe Cross Hotel by all the staff there. The room was clean and we felt quite comfy there. We only thing we were not impressed with was the towel rail in the bathroom was broken. Apart from that, which is minor,we recommend this hotel.

“Beautiful setting, tranquil and comfortable. My husband and I were there for only one night but would have liked it to be longer. I should like to return, this time with my dogs ( which are welcome) and take advantage of the lovely walks on the moors etc. I was particularly impressed with the cuisine.” Glenys, Southampton |
