This Hotel is situated in the quiet village of Bovey Tracey on the edge of dartmoor. Its location gives easy access to the major roads to Plymouth and Exeter. The Hotel facilities (swimming pool, sauna etc ) were good and very unusual to get in a two star hotel. Very friendly hotel and would recommended it highly.

Friendly staff, good rooms, and well priced Paying problem, they thought it had been paid to you. Confusing that you give your card details online, but still have to pay when you arrive which is worrying as to why you need card details!

The owner was a fantastic guy - very friendly without being "in your face". Sauna and pool were good. Bar area was quiet and able to enjoy a drink and read a book. Room could have done with decorating - starting to feel "old"

Please ignore the reviews, they are unfair. Okay it is tired, but it is clean, the staff are friendly and rooms comfortable. We stayed in rooms 5/6 which had a fantastic view of dartmoor, and the breakfast was very good. The hotel is located on the edge of the village which is quiet but you only have a 10 minute walk to the centre. So please stay and give good reviews remember you are paying 2 star prices and you get the bonus of a pool / leisure faclilities, what do people want???

We were treated very nicely at Coombe Cross Hotel by all the staff there. The room was clean and we felt quite comfy there. We only thing we were not impressed with was the towel rail in the bathroom was broken. Apart from that, which is minor,we recommend this hotel.

It was reasonably priced, and in the correct location for visiting my family. The hotel has a very '70s' feel about it, and desperately requires refurbishment. The room was small, but comfortable and clean. However, the lighting in the bedroom was such that it was virtually impossible to read a newspaper after dark. The loo seat was also broken and loose. Having returned to the hotel in the evening, we had a drink in the lounge, but when we tried to order a second drink we were told the bar had closed, without any prior warning. There were also other guests in the bar (workmen) who were not restrained in their use of bad language. On advising the receptionist on checkout about the loo seat, the response was: "yes, we've had a problem with that". On complaining about the language in the bar the evening before the response was: "well, that's workmen for you".

Really convenient for my relatives' house which is a 5 minute walk away. Great to have use of the spa & pool for my 3 children and their 4 cousins on the morning before we left. Thank-you.

It was comfortable and friendly but looked rather tired. It could have done with a lick of paint, some soap in the shower and a better shower. We had a pleasant stay for one night. We booked a moore view room and initially were put somewhere else. This was rectified on request. The staff told us that check out was 1030 on Sunday when in fact the hotel information clearly stated 11am. There was no porridge available for breakfast due to there being no oats. This is basic, but should not be on the menu if it cannot be provived. Overall I think there is a lack of communication between staff in the hotel.

This delightful hotel will take by surprise! The service was really both personal and friendly. The single room, although rather small, was clean and comfortable. The bed was so relaxing and enjoyed a good night's sleep during my stay. As for the location is ideal right on the edge of Dartmoor, and Plymouth and Exeter on the a38 were very convenient. Furthermore the hotel was a quiet district of Bovey Tracey within walking distance of shops.

As promised with the Moorview Room - the view was the best Great advice where to eat except could not book meal in Hotel unless said at 10am and as it was a break and not sure where we would be at evening time it was a shame to come back and use the great facilities then HAD to go out again to eat and the weather was turning - were as if they said 3pm was a deadline or the chance to phone back by a certain time?? I understand staffing but if the restaurant was going to be open then 2 more would not test them?

On arrival, we were not informed that the room we had booked was not available. The room we were given was a small wallpaper peeling of off the wall, the shower was too hot and unable to be turned down, the hand shower was slow and cold, the bath took ages to fill up, so a cold shower was the order of the day. The bath plug was stuck so I was unable to empty the bath. The view over the Garden, turned out to be a view over the rubbish bins, and Car park, and surrounding houses back gardens. I telephoned down to reception, to be informed their systems was down and there was not other room available, not even an upgrade. I was told after several conversations that we would not be charged for the room, but would have to pay fro breakfast. I refused breakfast as the original price included breakfast.

“Hotel is very convenient for the city centre and parking is easy at the multi-storey just nearby. Staff were friendly, and room was comfortable. Bed in particular was very comfy, and breakfast was fine. Best of all, the hotel is only a very short walk from the city centre and the cathedral.” Tony, Shedfield |
