Only stayed at the Copthorne Effingham because we were attending the Night of 100 Stars. Would only recommend if people were going to this event.
Room (carpet) and bathroom look very tired. In need of refurbishment. The bath was uncomfortable and even dangerous to get in and out of especially if the guests are elderly, Pillows were not comfortable. Buffet in the restaurant was not value for money. Quality of food poor. Discontinuing the shuttle service from the airport to the hotel posed a number of problems particularly since taxis are not allowed in the airport area. Number provided by the hotel for the taxi service did respond on the day of arrival even though the hotel tried to put us through to them.
Large rooms, very comfortable beds. Very friendly, welcoming staff.
Rooms look dated, needs updating in parts. Bit of an odour in the room. Heating control very poor - no heating in one room and too much heat in another with no ability to turn it down.
Efficiency & pleasantness of staff.
Very difficult to find despite directions.
Staff was excellent and the hotel is located well for Gatwick Airport,There is also an excellent pub down the road for Dinner.
Room and bathroom were very tired, carpet worn in places - I mean really worn, furniture vey old and damaged, bathroom dated and poorly maintained. To charge for wifi in this day and age is scandalous , and shows that the business does not really care about its customers but sees every opportunity to rip them off, in the us wifi is everywhere - gratis !
Nice comfortable and clean room. Glad that this year the bar provided hot food which was far better than the restaurant buffet in 2013.
Room was a bit chilly but reception kindly provided a heater. Also my mobile kept losing it's signal in the room.
Trainee on front desk was slow, and not ready for the job. Took too long to check in, and to respond to basic requests for currency changing.
Easy to find, park etc. Rooms are fine, beds comfortable, restaurant for evening meal very good.
No blankets for guests who cannot sleep under duvets! We take our own. We may be old-fashioned, but we know how we sleep well.
The best part was leaving
My stay having to change rooms and still TV did not work and still tried to charge £12 for Internet
Location to gatwick
Hotel is dated and in need of rejuvenation. Also restaurant service was poor as waiting from ordering and between meals was appalling, which the head waiter did not seem to appreciate as an issue.
Comfortable bedroom; good bar and restaurant; airport free parking; quiet bedroom.
The use of separate taxis for the return airport transfer was below standard set by the hotel shuttle service.
Most of the staff are very friendly and helpful but their are exceptions!
I often have to ask for wifi code and drinks voucher even though in a club room. Some staff are grumpy about this, others apologize and sort out in a friendly manner.
Everything was perfect lovely staff who could not be more pleasant n polite never stopped at a hotel that was so good even 5star 3 times the price absolute a1
Beautiful views. Ideal location (short drive from most amenities, i.e. Gatwick, London, Eastbourne, Brighton.) Bed was comfortable; bedding was pristine, bathroom clean (but a bit out-dated!). Tea and coffee making facilities provided.
It was all perfectly adequate for the price we paid.
The meal in the restaurant was expensive but excellent
The room was not good !...the carpet was threadbare..the bathroom was disgusting and the shower power was non existent !..we stayed in room 244.
Sewage smell, filthy bathroom, dirty pillows, hairs in bed, unmade bed, filthy mattress cover, carpet dirty, noisy room, lumpy mattress. Ruined my stay. ON YOUR RECOMMENDATION!!!!!!!
Friendly, polite and efficient staff. Clean hotel and a really good evening meal.
There was a problem with the TV and the bath. However, once I informed the staff, we were moved immediately to another room and all was then good!
Hotel has a faded elegance but up close , scruffy. Quite nice bathroom
Our room was situated in the middle of about a hundred wedding guests rooms. It was an Indian ceremony and they must start early as from dawn they went from room to room talking v loudly and letting every door bang shut. No soundproofing at all, could even hear people using the bathroom. Also cushions on bed were disgustingly stained and smelly
Not a single thing, from the food, customer service, condition of the rooms everything was extremely poor
Worst experience, so shocked that it's a part of the millennium hotel group. Never again would I stay there or recommend anyone to stay. Dirty rooms and poor service I wouldn't even rate it as a 2 star hotel let alone 4.
Staff were pleasant
TV didn't work
The bed was very comfortable The room was ample size and cosy Nice location and grounds Free parking
Breakfast wasn't great with watery eggs Decor was very tired could do with a revamp Bath tub was too high to step down unless you're tall No air con or heating in room Elevators take forever to get to your floor you're better off walking
NOT VERY FLEXIBLE OR FRIENDLY HOTEL
Room was spacious and very clean
Wish breakfast was included for that price
Quite location, lovely grounds.
The Bar is old and needs refurbishment. It lacks atmosphere and the choice of beers is poor
