Location of hotel suited our needs. Friendly staff, particularly the breakfast staff. Room comfortable and clean, although we paid the extra asked for the 'offer' of an up-grade to club class, it was not overly spectacular.
Bathroom hand wash basin drainage needs attention otherwise ok.
Quite peaceful and beautiful surroundings.
The actual event was well run, with good food, and servers were very prompt and polite. Check-in was quick and easy.
Hotel character is quite old, and could do with some refurbishment. Corridors to my room were in very poor order. In the lifts the carpet was raised up high as another example. Breakfast was run very poorly. Food was not ready despite it not being that busy with people waiting for a while for that to be fixed. Tables were not set and needed staff to fix. In this booking it was confirmed that breakfast would be £8.99, but staff tried to charge £11.95. Staff member could not rectify, but Manager did, and even discounted it further as an apology for the mistake.
Bar food poor
Management responce to correcting their payment issue.
reception, restaurant and bar area were very nice and welcoming. the room was a good size and bathroom facilities were very nice. well laid out with good quality fittings. The food was good quality nicely presented and served. Breakfast was excellent with a good selection
Thought coffee's after evening meal was grossly overpriced. At least 30% more than costa chain in london
threadbare carpet in bedroom
Lovely spacious room.
Buffet dinner was very tasty but not hot
Staff were extremely helpful Bed was very comfortable Very quiet, so slept well. Good quality food.
Good location for Gatwick airport Quiet rooms despite two large weddings going on. Good venue for private dinner party Friendly staff at reception and during dinner party
Restricted car parking available At breakfast staff declined our request for a fried egg as only scrabbled egg available.
Customer Service Gym Facilities Size of Room
Noisy travellers on same landing late at night and very early in the morning.
Reception looked amazing until you check into the rooms
Standards of rooms were a disgrace for a 4* hotel, wallpaper coming away from the wall, stained bedding and mattress protector, kettle inside dirty, toilet seat damaged, shower curtain full off body fat, thread bare carpets , the list goes on and I have photos to prove this, receptionist the next morning did not seem to care what I was saying and explained this hotel is having a refurb sometime next year, at £81.00 a night is this justified reason ? I intend to follow this up with a written email to the management team.
Only stayed at the Copthorne Effingham because we were attending the Night of 100 Stars. Would only recommend if people were going to this event.
Room (carpet) and bathroom look very tired. In need of refurbishment. The bath was uncomfortable and even dangerous to get in and out of especially if the guests are elderly, Pillows were not comfortable. Buffet in the restaurant was not value for money. Quality of food poor. Discontinuing the shuttle service from the airport to the hotel posed a number of problems particularly since taxis are not allowed in the airport area. Number provided by the hotel for the taxi service did respond on the day of arrival even though the hotel tried to put us through to them.
Large rooms, very comfortable beds. Very friendly, welcoming staff.
Rooms look dated, needs updating in parts. Bit of an odour in the room. Heating control very poor - no heating in one room and too much heat in another with no ability to turn it down.
Efficiency & pleasantness of staff.
Very difficult to find despite directions.
Staff was excellent and the hotel is located well for Gatwick Airport,There is also an excellent pub down the road for Dinner.
Room and bathroom were very tired, carpet worn in places - I mean really worn, furniture vey old and damaged, bathroom dated and poorly maintained. To charge for wifi in this day and age is scandalous , and shows that the business does not really care about its customers but sees every opportunity to rip them off, in the us wifi is everywhere - gratis !
Nice comfortable and clean room. Glad that this year the bar provided hot food which was far better than the restaurant buffet in 2013.
Room was a bit chilly but reception kindly provided a heater. Also my mobile kept losing it's signal in the room.
Trainee on front desk was slow, and not ready for the job. Took too long to check in, and to respond to basic requests for currency changing.
Easy to find, park etc. Rooms are fine, beds comfortable, restaurant for evening meal very good.
No blankets for guests who cannot sleep under duvets! We take our own. We may be old-fashioned, but we know how we sleep well.
The best part was leaving
My stay having to change rooms and still TV did not work and still tried to charge £12 for Internet
Location to gatwick
Hotel is dated and in need of rejuvenation. Also restaurant service was poor as waiting from ordering and between meals was appalling, which the head waiter did not seem to appreciate as an issue.
Comfortable bedroom; good bar and restaurant; airport free parking; quiet bedroom.
The use of separate taxis for the return airport transfer was below standard set by the hotel shuttle service.
Most of the staff are very friendly and helpful but their are exceptions!
I often have to ask for wifi code and drinks voucher even though in a club room. Some staff are grumpy about this, others apologize and sort out in a friendly manner.
Everything was perfect lovely staff who could not be more pleasant n polite never stopped at a hotel that was so good even 5star 3 times the price absolute a1
Beautiful views. Ideal location (short drive from most amenities, i.e. Gatwick, London, Eastbourne, Brighton.) Bed was comfortable; bedding was pristine, bathroom clean (but a bit out-dated!). Tea and coffee making facilities provided.
It was all perfectly adequate for the price we paid.
