Copthorne Hotel London Gatwick  

Unfortunately my room smelt incredibly unpleasant and damp, and lingered on my clothing throughout the following day until I returned home and had them clean.

The room was very hot on arrivel. Turned off the heating and switched on the airco. After a while the room was filled with a smell of sigaret smoke and baking, all this around midnight. Switched of the airco because of the bad smell and the warmth I had to open a window in order to have some fresh cold air in. The room was downstairs adjacent to the parking so I did not feel save. I had very little sleep.

check-out gentleman a bit grumpy in the morning; room was comfortable but a bit basic - could do with a refurb; xmas turkey dinner distinctly average, no pigs in blankets! also no mince pies or coffee.

Bed bugs!!!! I woke up in the night to find bugs crawling all over me and spots of blood on the sheets where they had bitten. Got a photo of them all nestling inside my pillow case and a video of one walking across the sheets. The hotel moved me to a different room but the receptionist was not surprised at all and was not apologetic. During the rest of my sleepless, itchy night I researched bed bugs and realised that I had to wash ALL my clothes at 60 degs and throw away my holdall, handbag, purse, wash bags etc to prevent the bugs spreading to my own house or car. The manager spoke to me the next day and was polite and apologetic but the General Manager was extremely rude and dismissive with a tone that assumed I, and his hotel manager, were lying - until they got the room checked. My biggest anger is that the hotel compensated me for just one bag leaving me £170 out of pocket at the end of a really nasty night. Oh and I went there because it had a pool but the pool but I was told on arrival that it was out of order. I will never recommend this hotel to anyone.

The beds are probasbly the most uncomfortable I have ever tried to sleep in and the room was so hot I have been in cooler saunas!! There was no mechanism to turn the heating down and we had to try to sleep with the windows wide open...not good in the middle of NOVEMBER!!

Good value for traditional British atmosphere. Convenient to Gatwick airport. Food is good but pricey. Will use again for airport access.

We stayed one night as it is concenient for Gatwick airport, the hotel and grounds are beautiful. The shuttle bus was very convenient to take us to Gatwick as was the parking for the week we were away. I would stay at this hotel again and recommend it to friends.

Convenient for Gatwick - 10 mins on shuttle bus - and set in semi rural location .

The Brasserie restaurant was closed on the night we stayed , so a very limited choice for evening meal - either a very expensive a la carte restaurant or pub food with an uninspiring menu

When we highlighted problems with our initial room, the staff were very helpful and upgraded us immediately, even though we had arrived in the early hours of the morning. The upgraded room was lovely, very comfortable. And the breakfast in the morning was good.

On arrival at the hotel, our room smelled damp and there had clearly been a leak from the ceiling which had left a stain and had also left the carpet sopping wet. Because of the leak the smoke alarm had been tampered with ineffectually and would bleep intermittently. In the bathroom the plug would not remain open when in the shower and as such the bath would fill as you were showering. For the price we paid for the room, the fact that we had informed with our booking that it was our honeymoon and the fact that we were arriving at such a late time of the evening from a flight added to the disappointment with the room and was not what we had expected from a Copthorne hotel. Once these issues were reported, the staff were helpful and upgraded us immediately at no extra cost.

As usual a good service all round, have stayed several times here before,staff good at dealing with the public , a very nice place to stay before a long haul flight.

Menus in the bar could be more variety, outside of building looking a bit tatty now tlc needed.
