Great facilities and fantastic food!
Quiet rooms with space and very good decor. Ideally located near but not right on airport or flight path. Good double glazing. Ease of parking and check in Attractive environment
Staff efficient but not especially friendly. Food in bar was only ok and expensive for what it is. Shuttle only every hour
Good facilities, peaceful location. Lovely, no frills decor and very friendly staff. Thoroughly enjoyed breakfast and at the discounted price we got for our room thought it was great value for money. Would definitely recommend.
I was there for a funeral and thought the staff were excellent catering for all our needs.
Beautiful old house yet very modern features. Rooms were spacious.
The distance to the rooms with heavy luggage.
food was not great, menu not good on healthy or on interesting contemporary choices, over-priced for the quality. any pub would have better menu and better quality food and would offer some proper healthy options. even the salad bar was tragic. for a hotel wanting to be more than 3 star you'd definitely expect much more. wouldn't stay again just because of the food. the communal bar areas were also freezing cold.
Everything about the hotel was very good, food and drink in the bar was good, rooms and staff also good
Location for us was good, our room was large and well equipped
My meal in the Library Bar - undercooked pizza, which should not have left the kitchen
Lovely "olde worlde" charm with a cosy atmosphere. Stayed here many times in the past, albeit a few years ago now, and will continue to recommend. It keeps on improving. Brasserie breakfast was excellent, however, restaurant a la carte food was a tad disappointing. All staff very friendly and helpful. Love this hotel.
Wifi a bit intermittent but was there for leisure not business, so was not an issue.
Upgraded room with breakfast and wi Fi (not used) Bar Breakfast
The location was great and even though it's close to Gatwick airport I wasn't bothered by any noise at all the setting is quite tranquil. The food in the Lion D'Or was very good and the service impeccable. The breakfast was pretty standard fare but perfectly acceptable. The late checkout at 12.00pm is better than most hotels. Great value for money especially when booking a club room which includes wi-fi, parking, a welcome drink and bathrobe/slippers! Would probably stay again for the price though there is a lot of competition in the area!
One member of the reception staff could have been friendlier, no mention was made about the hotels facilities when booking in or provision for breakfast or evening meal options. My first room had just been decorated and still smelled of wet paint so I asked to switch. The second room I was given wasn't quite as nice and looked a little dated and need of a refurb - though was perfectly clean. Standing under the shower in a corner bath was awkward. Parking can be a bit of a trek to the reception depending on where you park. The hotel campus has the feel of an old people's retirement village - the clientele and décor reinforced this but the hotel was quiet and very civilized. Only a small selection of TV channels. Rooms have noisy fridges in them which I turned off. Unable to leave window open on a latch as room was on the ground floor - rooms could get a bit stuffy as no aircon. With a bit of updating this place could be beautiful - as it is it's perfectly fine just a bit like staying at your Grans!
Location and nice big room
Breakfast. Expensive and not good.
The hotel decor, room, bed,garden.
The breakfast coffee was weak. Tasted like instant. Scrambled eggs were watery and tasteless. I did not lnow about the breakfast specials. Noone offered these to us I only realised this when I finished amd I was browsing through the menu. Breakfast staff seemed in a rush and chaotic.it was not busy.
Evening meal in the Conservatory - expensive but tasty & well presented.
Bedroom basic, tatty & cold. Overall heating problems throughout the hotel. Total refurbishment well overdue.
Location, buildings, rooms and general ambience
Found out on check out that rate included breakfast. Reception staff had been asked on two occasions if breakfast was included and was informed that it was not.. Apologies offered but no discount or further offers.
There was not enough hot water in the evening. Plenty in the morning.
Food good in top restaurant. Bed comfortable Good location Friendly staff Clean room. Parking free for night you stay.
Asked for room not on ground floor the message did not come through from booking dot com. Rooms very hot and stuffy.
everything was excellent could not fault anything.
having to carry suit cases up the stairs did not know or was told of a lift? to get to the first floor.
We have stayed at copthorn Gatwick many times and never been disappointed
Lovely old building full of character. Big comfy room, choice of 3 eating places, attentive staff. Easy to reach the airport for the flight home
As with many hotels of this type the fitness facilities are part of a separate club with it's own rules. The pool has restrictions on the times children can swim, so my 10 year old son couldn't use the pool, that isn't mentioned in the write-up and was a big disappointment. I think Wifi should be free in a 4 star hotel. This was the 6th hotel we stayed at on this holiday, the most expensive and the only one to charge for Wifi
Had to ask for clean bedding on first night, after turning back the duvet found soiled bedding, this made sleep uncomfortable for the rest of our stay
An attractive Hotel within easy reach of airport.
We were allocated a room with broken down heating system, but provided with a small heater which couldn't raise the temperature above 15 C. We were later given another room with heating but still didn't get temp. up above 17C.
Helpful staff. Honesty, they found and returned my watch left in the room! Good late night Bar food. Has been refurbished nicely
no problems, didn't use their wifi...
Location just off M23 & good for Gatwick & Brighton.
Room had strong smell of Tar from timbers - made worse during night as no adjustment to turn off radiator - which is positioned under a timber beam. Clothes smelled when unpacking at home the next day. WC took 30 minutes to refill & bathroom radiator not working - obviously these simple items are not regularly checked by staff & left with thoughts of what else behind the scenes is lacking Maintenance ? White Swan - very cold in conservatory - ordered 6 meals only 5 arrived. Food served on cold plates & quality not up to standard - which let down a Family get together - would have been better eating at the Harvester pub chain down the road. Not a happy experience.
