The ambience and the choice of restaurants. Being older we eat less than younger people and the stables suited us so well. A lovely place to relax and order as much or little as one wanted. We had not been looking forward to the stay as we had to travel a long way but it was so conveniently sited and so well worth the effort. The staff also very kindly arranged for us to have a twin room instead of the double room on offer.
The room was lovely but the windows didn't open and the weather was very hot. I slept very poorly because of perspiring all night. The reception let us have a fan for the second night.
Food spa and room.We were given an upgrade as there was a wedding taking place. The room was very nice and the noise was bearable
Speed of service in dining room. It would appear that the staff were too busy due to apparently three receptions taking place at the same time...two weddings and a funeral.
Gym Separate Bar/Pub within the grounds of the hotel!!!
Had a great weekend Clive the owner stopped and asked us about our stay and made us welcome We have friends in the north east so will at hall garth again
Feels like home as we are too large a family to stay at my elderly Mum's. We stay four or five times a year and always feel our small grandchildren are welcome.
Swimming pool area can get a bit stuffy!
Lovely setting. Bedroom very comfortable. Breakfast very good, nice and relaxing.
Lovely building in lovely grounds.
Room was a bit small for two people to move around in comfortably.
Grapevine in Stables conservatory
view of garden dubious
Breakfast for two, in a window with beautiful view, tasty breakfast and cheerful, helpful staff
Pool area very tired- floor materials to changing rooms look dirty (I'm sure not)- not attractive .
Could not fault, decent room, not too expensive, food good, very good breakfast spread.
The food at the stables wasn't up to scratch on the Sunday.
e, the views
noisy neighbours but they did quieten down eventually - walls in the newer rooms a bit thin
It's not to far to travel. My friend and I stay every couple of months. We use the spa facilities then get ready and go out to the stables. Enjoy a couple of drinks enjoy a nice meal. We then head back to our room get our pj's on and finish our evening with a couple of wines why we put the world to right. total relaxation from start to finish. I would highly recommend it to anyone in need of a de_stress.
I haven't come across I don't like.
Breakfast was good food served quickly and professionally. Comfortable and clean room. Pleasant setting.
Gym very busy early evening. Advertised good walks from hotel. The walks are either around the golf course or are overgrown.
Location & environment Breakfast was nice.
Décor was very bland. Room was very disappointing. Very noisy from upstairs room.
Location and Staff
Breakfast charges 12.50 too expensive
Plenty to do, even in the rain
The rooms were too hot we had 2 rooms next to each other and we weren't allowed to leave the key in the door so we had to wedge the doors open so we didn't have to keep knocking on each others door
£99 for this "superior room" room was excessive. It was small. There was only 1 bath towel and one hand towel. It was certainly not superior. We have stayed in many hotels with better rooms at much less cost. The water from the taps was brown!!! When these things were pointed out to reception we were asked if we had checked the wardrobe for more towels!!!!! Not good enough. There was only Earl Grey tea provided in the room. A call to reception would probably have rectified this but should not have been necessary. The room door was difficult to open. I reserved this room for my friends as I always thought the Hallgarth was escpecially good. What happened to solicite this change? I was very embarrassed and would not recomend it to anyone else.
The location The room Cleanliness Good place just to get your head down for the night. Lovely setting for a wedding
Some members of staff (They need to keep their opinions to themselves. A few times heard unwanted opinions about family members) Do not get breakfast, it takes half an hour to just get a cup of tea. Unorganized Need to learn a few customer service skills.
Decor was tired in four poster room
the brochure stated outdoor games were available for hire. thus we took nothing for the child to play with and were very disappointed - and she was bored!
Staff very help full the food was very good it was a good variety of country fare we were not Long enough to but if I was asked I would say it was very good
We weren't long enough to give a more independent view but if we are at York Racing next year maybe we will book again
Good facilities, breakfast was excellent, nice surroundings.
We got an awful nights sleep due to other guests shouting in the corridors and slamming doors all throughout the night. The room was also rather small too.
We had a fab time and throughly enjoyed our time here, all very friendly, would recommended it to all.
I loved the room, the staff were helpful and I managed to get checked in early. Everything was lovely. I'd love to return and make use of the spa. Staff behind the bar on Saturday for the wedding were lovely and polite too.
Although the room was clean to a very high standard. There was hair left on the floor in the bathroom and on the spare toilet paper.
Lovely location, far enough away from home to feel as if we had a break. Staff friendly would go back at some point in the future
