Having stayed at many hotels around Darlington over the past couple of years, I have been pleasantly surprised by how lovely the Hallgarth is. I will consider staying here again the next time I need to find somewhere to stay. Breakfast was lovely! The small bar was cozy - such a welcoming feeling having driven for 4 hours, and arriving late!

All of the staff from the spa to reception were really friendly - had a willing genuine smile and couldnt do enough - was really surprised and delighted at the prices of the food and wine in the bar and restaurant - it made everything much more affordable - one titchi thing - could have done with more people working in the treatment rooms cause it was really busy and we would have had more treatments if there had been a slot - but it didnt spoil anything - we had the best time thanks xx

My first visit to Garth Hotel, first impressions count and the staff at check in were very firendly and helpful. The setting and room were excellent. Although I didn't get chance to use the pool and spa facilities I will definately be back to try these. The on site pub was friendly and served good food. The main plus point for me was the peace and quiet, it was a very relaxing stay. Having used a large chain of hotels for many years when staying in the North East this was a breath of fresh air and I intend to make this my base for future business stop-overs. There is not much to dislike so being very picky here! A better choice of beer at the pub would be great, a couple of local real ales would perhaps attract more people? I know a lot of people who check what is on offer at the bar before deciding where to stay! That is it really, everything else was perfect.

This 3* hotel is conveniently located for the business traveller, as it is only 0.5 mile from the A1 and close to the large Aycliffe ind estate . It is based around an old manor house which has kept a lot of traditional features. The bedrooms in the old part of the building have sloping floors, low doors etc A more modern annexe has also good but more standardised rooms. There is a seperate pub/bar with real ale and snacks,a leisure centre and golf course. In the restaurant , you can eat in the old main room or in the conservatory which looks out over the golf course Hot bar food is no longer available in the pub so you have to go to the restaurant and pay a lot more to eat. We were put in the conservatory where it was rather cold ( same problem last winter when I stayed) as only heated by fan heaters . The leisure centre needs updating . The pub was rather dead and at one point we were the only customers. From past visits the few bedrooms above the Stables pub are rather small and should be avoided.

Excellent hotel with high standards throughout. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Good location being approximately 5 miles from centre of Darlington I have stayed at the Hall Garth on a number of occasions and will continue to stay. I was disappointed however, that there was no hot water on the second night of my stay and none the following morning. While staff were very apologetic, they said the problem had been caused by the boiler blowing out and that this had been a problem since Christmas. Given that I stayed there in mid January I would have expected this to have been remidied earlier.

A very good hotel, ideally located for the motorway. Good leisure facilities. The golf course is not very good, but for a knock around its ok. The bed in the room was one of the hardest beds I have ever slept on! I took hours to get to sleep and then slept terribly. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I hope not all the beds are like this one.

I didn't want to stay in a hotel in Newcastle and this hotel is perfect being just 2 mins from the a1. It's quiet, well maintained and has good leisure facilities. Choice of food is also good.

“We was very impressed with the Aston staff, who were polite and friendly from the moment we arrived and were eager to accomodate our needs as we were travalling with a disabled person. Our rooms were spacious and clean and had adequate items to make the stay easier. The breakfast we had was really lovely and fresh. The location was beautiful. We had a really great two days and will come again. We have already recommended to friends.” Linda, London |
