Location in the centre of town
Restaurant manager on the ball ...dinner served by the open fire Chefs belly pork meal just the best slow cooked I'd ever had ...well done guys
Near town. Comfortable and warm lounge. Quiet clean room. Good breakfast
Would have preferred better wifi facilities
Liked every thing
Greeting. Reception staff excellent. Cleaning staff pleasant and courteous. Restaurant staff pleasant.
Dim lighting, in bedrooms and public rooms. It didn't add atmosphere, just made everywhere look slightly gloomy. Bar staff - some fine; but not particularly attentive; some seemed barely trained. Breakfast was okay. Restaurant food was ordinary. Tea and coffee, on the whole was abysmal. Weak and tasteless.
The history, familiarity and nostalgia of a hotel I first stayed in in 1957. Faded glory perhaps but for me and many others that is the main attraction. Best location by far with wonderful views from higher floors.
Paying for parking is rather unusual. Awful Wi-Fi coverage!
Nice communal areas and wonderful room with great bathroom. Breakfast was excellent.
A bit creaky but part of the charm!
staff location value for money
location and history of the building was great. Good value for money!
decor a little faded
Hotel décor, comfort and relaxing atmosphere.
The only problem we experienced was that the shower in our room was very poor.
History of hotel
This is second time we have stayed at the Lion Hotel, the location is great, with on site parking, the hotel has plenty of character.
Perhaps the hotel could do with abit of sprucing up, lampshades, carpet etc all looking a 'little tired', the staff also appear to be alittle bored, they do offer customer service, but it would be better with a smile and actually looking at the customer during check in and out would be nice.
Staff were very pleasant and helpful.
The lighting in the room was poor, but staff did fetch us more bedside lights. I asked for a small porridge and one egg and received a huge bowl and two eggs - I hate waste!
Character of hotel Quite at night Excellent breakfast freshly cooked
Room was comfy. Afternoon tea was available. Breakfast was adequate. Staff were friendly and helpful and I like old buildings.
If there was a downside I would say: 1. No sky tv. 2. Trying to get out the town centre on the one way system going home
Wooden toilet seat not hygienic . Every piece of furniture in our room was odd. Noisy lift. Floors uneven .
excellent attentive staff, good breakfast
having to change room on arrival because it was very cold. This is quite faff when husband is disabled and I have to do everything.
Historic setting Friendly, helpful staff
Considerable noise from creaky floor boards and lifts
Position and interesting building. Restaurant very nice but only open Saturday so unavailable on our other 2 nights. Cooked breakfast OK but croissants stale and waitress said "No" when I asked for some more toast ! Now that's a first!
Our room was freezing cold . Radiator too small and only on for a couple of hours in the morning . Fire in lounge not lit on Sunday evening - lacked atmosphere
Was noisy at night as could hear people walking and in the next room
Room 302 has a pipe in it somewhere that trickles water through it all night.
very pleasant hotel were we have stayed before
Getting a bit to old for the many short flights of stairs ON THE SAME Floor
