Lovely and interesting old building right in the heart of the old town.
Very well placed for buses to Much Wenlock and beyond. Close to excellent Italian restaurant, La Lanterna. Spacious rooms downstairs for relaxation. Good coffee at breakfast.
No newspaper service!
location convenient for walking around town parking on site building with character large room good breakfast
paying for parking poorly furnished room, no pictures on walls, dull and dreary with a musty smell, dusty corners on couch. Pathetic bathroom out of 50's stained chairs in dining room. bar closing just after 11pm and having to run after night porter who was very good. not a place that valued guests
Breakfast was good - excellent poached eggs but......
Waitress served hot breakfast well before cereal/fruit was finished!
the staff were really good, the food lovely. The windows opened but had effective secondary glazing so not too noisy.
The drawer with the hairdryer looked smeared and dirty, I expect it is old glue but would really benefit from lining with fresh paper. Very out-of-date magazine on the table, gave the impression the room had not been used for a while.....
Room was fairly nice, located at the front of the hotel we were woken pretty early by road sweepers, breakfast was ok, plenty of staff but they did not seem to work very hard !, pile of empty cereal boxes lying all over the buffet area and non of them noticed.
Interior appointments keep the spirit of the age. Kind and pleasant staff. Traditional English breakfast is delicious!
The noisy bar. The boiler/fan that turned off at 11 and back on at 6.00 am and sleep was impossible when it was on!
The Lion Hotel sits in a historic location in the heart of a delightful city. Because it is an old building, lots of creaking floors, but comfortable beds, generous breakfasts with wide choices, helpful staff, and lovely ground floor lounge. Good bar right off the lobby. Great location, just a short walk to the Abbey and up to the high street.
Wi-fi only in lounge, and a bit noisy, though I understand that is partly from the inn next door.
Restaurant Food in evening good.
Menu in Restaurant same each night Bedroom fine but noise from lift distracting.
history of the place and food was good.
excellent breakfast parking good
very noisy at night from the restaurant below. Creaky floor boards and people moving bins along the cobbled street below at 6.40am.
Right in town centre with car park. Lots of character and history in building. Good sized rooms with clean comfy beds and bathrooms with toiletries. Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast, gluten free diet catered for as requested when booking. Good value for money would recommend this hotel.
Very noisy lift which needs an overhaul. Large hole in rubber flooring under revolving door. Trip hazard!.
the whole ambiance was perfect and we totally enjoyed our stay
Nice relaxing night
Good breakfast. Comfy bed & room. Friendly staff. Close to shops. Bar food good.
Lift too close to room, shut down time not long enough. Resturant expensive for the quality and quantity. Not a good range/ choice
Great location to explore Shrewsbury in a hotel with history seeping out of the walls. Very friendly and helpful staff and a breakfast that sets you up for the day. Now some people may not like them but we loved the creaking floorboards in this Grade 1 listed building. Would stay again without a moments hesitation.
Checking out because we didn't want to leave.
The bar area was old the decor was really nice.
The bedroom floor and bed both creaked.
Convenient location, several attractive public rooms with lots of character. Two of them in Adam-style decoration. Wifi good (and free) but only available in public areas. Breakfasts (included) good.
Checkout time 11.00. 12.00 would be more acceptable.
The quaintness of the hotel . The very helpful and polite staff we were there on a short break for 3 nights and requested a room with a nice view and a fan and our request was met in full . The bed was extremely comfortable and wonderful breakfast in the morning set us up for the day. Will be back.
Some of the seating in the wonderful lounge could do with some more padding
Reception staff at check in
The location was great, the olde worlde charm was really nice. The staff were very friendly & helpful. The room was well appointed.
The shower took ages to warm & was a trickle. The cooked breakfast was awful, I've had better from roadside vans. I know the street is out of the hotel control but was very noisy? Then on the bill I had a £5 surprise parking fee! I wasn't told of this
I love the quirkiness of the Lion, with the corridors going off and the short stair cases covering the different levels. Rooms are comfortable, and showing signed of some refurbishment. Food and service is good. Free WiFi in in the ground floor public rooms. Our first choice in Shrewsbury for a central hotel.
The wonderfully attentive and courteous staff helped me with every part of my stay!
