Cromwell's Inn is a small town hotel right in the centre of Shrewsbury. It offers comfortable bedrooms, a secluded garden and free Wi-Fi access.
Score from 345 reviews Very good
The room was full of charater and history, the floors were up and down like waves on the sea and things on the coffee table prone to slide off but this only added to the charm of the room.
Would like better Wifi.
The hotel was perfect for what we needed. On a first visit to Shrewsbury it was perfectly situated for some sightseeing. Staff were pleasant particularly the gentleman at reception.
Unfortunately our room was situated close to the pub next door that created a large amount of noise until about 11:45. Apparently the Lions Head have had a problem with the level of noise generated by this pub and their live music. They are endeavouring to get this sorted. No fault of the Lions Head however!
Nothing, very noisy as well
Room appalling, lift antiquated and made terrible noise floorboards creaked all night and if they have anything on at night you are not allowed to use the car park even though staying - absolute rubbish
the room was very clean and well equipped, the bed was comfortable, staff pleasant and polite.
breakfast was not hot, it seemed like the bacon and sausage was kept too long after cooked which made it dry.
We loved this hotel. Centrally located in the older part of Shrewsbury. This old building with it's amazing history made it feel like you were somewhere special. The staff were polite and helpful and the breakfast was excellent.
Freindly staff good breakfast
Prices in bar too dear
Comfortable bed. Good breakfast.
The location is excellent. My room was of a good size for a single with a double bed and a very large closet. Check-in/out was smooth and friendly. The 'lobby' is lovely especially the old fireplace. I wish I'd had more time to sit and have a drink in such a great space.
The room looked a bit tired and worn. Some of the furniture needs replacing. One of the two lights didn't work in the bathroom. The sink was cracked. Although the weather was cold the room was a little warm and stuffy because the window could not be opened. The hotel is creaky but earplugs can help with that. One final thing. Not offering bar food until after 2.00 pm as the hotel 'wants to concentrate its resources in the restaurant' is counterproductive.
It is really ideally situated for wandering around the streets of Shrewsbury and our room, which had three windows in it was unusual but very comfortable. Breakfast service was excellent with a good range of options.
The road noise was a bit of a nuisance but it did not put us off our sleep.
the historic ambience and environment
lack of parking and that because it is open to others on a pay and display system there is no guarantee a spot is available if you go out for a few hours.
Has own car park
Squeaky bedroom floorboards!
The location and the breakfast was good .
Thought the Haywood was disappointing !!
all of it
The history of the hotel is unsurpassed and reminded me of the Agatha Christie novel Bertrams Hotel.
The staff were fantastic
Location good for Shrewsbury
This hotel needs some investment. The rooms are tired, stuffy and not what you're expecting from such a grand facade. I wouldn't recommend this place until it has had a complete refurb of all the rooms
Location Ability to park in the town securely
Lack of alternative to butter to spread on our toast. Lack of tomatoes for breakfast on Saturday 9th August
breakfast was excellent also asked for a fan which was provided as rooms were quite warm No complaints at all
Lovely rooms, great location and nice staff, but too hot in the room we were in!
Very stuffy and hot in our room.
Dated Unfriendly Very average
Breakfast was ok,
The room was very hot, and the window could only be opened slightly, the decor needs to be tidyed up and the shower was running hot and cold, the reception staff were very abrupt and unwelcoming, expected more for the money we paid, it wasn't cheap. We won't be going back.
Friendly, welcoming staff & beautiful old building with interesting history & a good deal of character.
Food was very disappointing although staff were very apologetic & we were not charged for evening meal.
Beautiful building in a wonderful street.
Some confusion with order at breakfast
Hotel was in a great location, good food and friendly.
