Creaky bedroom floor
Obliging reception staff. Very close to centre of town. On site parking. Excellent breakfast.
The location was good but very busy area on a Saturday Very friendly people in the hotel and other places we visited.
The room we had was just after a fire door and banged constantly causing our door to bang also we where at the back of the hotel next to a generator or vent which was very noisy. Did not mind or cause a fuss but if we stayed there again l would not want room 209. Also for the price l would not expect to pay to park on the hotel carpark.
Superb customer service from all the staff. Outstanding food in the restaurant
Kitchen Fan keep us awake all night
Most convenient for walking round this very attractive town. Staff did their best to make our stay a pleasant as possible. The food was excellent value for money.
The bedroom floors creaked.
The hotel is very well located, right in the centre of town, very historic and quaint. Good car parking for £5.00per day. Excellent breakfast
The floor in the bedroom was very creaky. The bar was a bit soulless.
Noisy lift, threadbare carpets & furnishings. Dirty sink with broken plug, window fastenings didn't work, skimpy tea/coffee provision. In general this historic hotel is in desperate need of a major refit.
Location to business
Awful breakfast.staff unable to speak fluent English.the breakfast had been pre cooked at least one hour before.bacon hard and dried out.eggs like rubber. In a rush no time to complain, had breakfast at local pub.excellent! Judging by breakfast we ate out at night time.
Ben the night porter was most helpful, polite and always made us feel welcome, always smiling and nothing was too much trouble.
The menu in the bar was a little disappointing. We ate on the Saturday before going out, although my meal was very nice, my partner had the pie, there wasn't much filling and it was very watery. The chips were good though.
The location and convenience of car park
Mattresses and pillows need upgrading very uncomfortable
Bit noisy for us. Ear plugs are recommended and then you'll be fine.
Good car parking for centrally located hotel, helpful staff, reasonably priced restaurant. Will certainly use again
wifi limited to 2 ground floor areas, not in room. Lighting in bedroom rather dim
Breakfast was excellent
The lift made a moaning noise but it still got us there
great location, everything within walking distance
the rooms was a bit hot, we closed the window because of the noise, water could have been a bit hotter when having a shower
Fascinating history, good breakfasts on the Sunday with attentative staff, not so good on the Monday. Great location, helpful receptionists, car parking on site a big bonus, good cross section of international tourists, so interesting. We would definitely return. Battlefield 1403 absolutely wonderful - what a tourist attraction - don't forget to see a model of the battleground laid out in the side chapel in the church - Kapow!
Bedroom over looked a noisy pub which did not get quiet until past 1:00pm on Saturday night, so had to shut windows and room was hot. Good lift, but many stairs up and down to get to the bedroom. Fixed shower head but coped with that. One way system around Shrewsbury very confusing, almost made me get a sat nav!
Paying extra for parking.
The History and splendour. The location is excellent.
The staff were efficient and friendly but there was something lacking.
We had a very frosty response at breakfast when we asked a waitress if we could have a table for four as we wanted to sit with our friends. She angrily relaid a table, with out making eye cotact. We were then ignored for about 15 minutes before another waiter reluctantly took our breakfast order. The toast arrived but the buffet table had not been replenished with butter, so by the time we were able to attract someone's attention and get this done the toast was stone cold.
Lovely and interesting old building right in the heart of the old town.
I liked the central position of the hotel but most of all I liked the sense of history attached to this hotel with its famous guests from Charles Dickens to Charles Darwin with George IV thrown in for good measure. It also has an excellent attached restaurant and very friendly staff.
The lift was exceptionally noisy and my room was right near the lift. Still, it did stop running at 11.45 so it wasn't unbearable and wouldn't stop me from returning to the hotel.
Very well placed for buses to Much Wenlock and beyond. Close to excellent Italian restaurant, La Lanterna. Spacious rooms downstairs for relaxation. Good coffee at breakfast.
No newspaper service!
The room decor, keeping Olde Worlde characteristics whilst maintaining current standards. Forgive the creaking floor boards - part of the charm for a building of that age and period.
An unexpected parking charge: Would like to have stayed there an hour or so extra the following day, but there would have been a further charge, so I moved on.
Although on old building built on many levels with creaky floors , where possible the facilities were up to date. Staff were very helpful at all times. Item 1 on questionnaire I have answered as solo traveller whereas in fact I was there with my brother , ( no " other " box.)
My room ( a single ) only had one free single plug point for the kettle and charging phone etc. Free Wi Fi was only available in two rooms , a bar & a lounge near reception
location convenient for walking around town parking on site building with character large room good breakfast
paying for parking poorly furnished room, no pictures on walls, dull and dreary with a musty smell, dusty corners on couch. Pathetic bathroom out of 50's stained chairs in dining room. bar closing just after 11pm and having to run after night porter who was very good. not a place that valued guests
Breakfast was good - excellent poached eggs but......
Waitress served hot breakfast well before cereal/fruit was finished!
