Because it is such an old building all the floors squeak. If you have anybody in the floor above you you would think it was a herd of elephants walking about. Not for light sleepers .
The public rooms are interesting and well furnished. The staff were always pleasant and helpful and the breakfast was nicely presented and on very hot plates which is good.

bathroom...mixer tap was scolding all the time and very dated...not value for money

Rooms need refurbished, the lift needs replaced (incredibly noisy) and the windows need fixing so that they actually close. When I was shown the 2 other rooms, the first was by the lift and the receptionist said she'd press the lift button so I could see if I wanted to stay there. I understood why when although there was a corridor between the room and the lift in the room you could hear an incredibly screechy noise. In the other room although it was lovely and had a front view the window didn't close properly, and you could see the gap, so would get noise from passers by and cars.
The staff are excellent, both at reception and at breakfast. Nothing seemed to be much trouble as I was actually shown 2 other rooms (I'm not picky), but did request a quiet room.

Good facilities in the room and excellent cuisine.

Parking was a nightmare but at least we didn't have to pay....as we had to in Chester the following 2 nights.
I have arthritis in shoulders and hips especially so need a very soft bed. I asked for an extra duvet to put underneath me. Instead of just being given a duvet, in the evening I found that the bed had been re-made..with an extra duvet...another gold star!

Dated room and noisy floorboards which spoilt our sleep. New chef who produced excellent food, we stayed for 4 days and menu very limited to only 4 main courses with no change to choice during stay.
Central location, clean room and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast and dinner

Room next to main road. Noise from trsffic and early morning revellers. If stayed here again would ask for a room at the rear. Wifi not available in room.

No glasses in room or complimentary water. Would expect at least this for the price. Good selection of teas but only a packet of two biscuits to share.

The only issue was being in a room which was close to the lift which, being old, makes a noise.
The hotel is ideally situated for the town centre. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean, comfortable and well equipped. The bar and breakfast were great.
May 5, 2015
The room overlooked an alleyway where there was a very noisy pub where the noise continued until gone 3am. The floor boards were very squeaky so you could here anyone moving around. Décor very dated
