The friendly and helpful staff made us feel that we would love to come again.
We would have liked easier disabled access to the dining room.
Location was perfect for everything street maps in hotel for guests would be a plus as we only got a free one on our last day from the station
Poor for wi fi reception
The location, excellent staff. Good breakfast prompt service
Excellent location. Large rambling hotel so spacious feel. Comfortable single room. Excellent breakfasts and this meal is important to me. Didn't need to use Wi-Fi but could have in public rooms which were spacious and comfortable.
Olde worlde hotel with very pleasant staff
An old place with modern standards. Good clean place. Good food. Great service. Love this place
Unique hotel. Very comfortable lounge. Staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfast. Would love to stay there again.
Pretty well everything: a superb location more or less in the centre of this famous ancient town, history and character by the bucketful in a centuries-old inn, hospitable, helpful and flexible staff, clean and comfortable rooms and a generous parking policy. The public rooms, with their open fires and club chairs, old paintings and prints, are a weary traveller's delight. The small bar is snug and cheerful, while the wonderful old ballroom, with its (genuine) Adam fireplaces and superb decoration, should on no account be missed. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful, though I didn't get the chance to try dinner (a pity). And all this at a most reasonable price. Most warmly recommended for anyone visiting Shrewsbury.
The fixed showers in the bedrooms can be tricky to adjust, and the place is a little threadbare here and there, but in a way these minor blemishes only serve to enhance its charm. If you want gleaming, characterless modernity then go somewhere else.
Loved staying at the lion would highly recommend, would love to book again. Good staff and lovely food.
Staff were very helpful, convenient onsite parking, great breakfast, quirky and characterful room, lovely open fire in the communal lounge.
The cleaning of the room could be significantly improved, but the bathroom was very clean. The feather duvet was fashionably 'vintage' but had holes in it and was shedding feathers on the bed and floor.
I liked the decor in the bedroom and the overall feel of the hotel.
The bedroom was far too warm. The sausages were not very good quality with the breakfast.
Location of hotel. Staff very friendly.
Hot food for breakfast served before we had time to finish cereal or fruit
White cotton sheets and fluffy white towels. Excellent location in town centre.
Thumping music until midnight - reverberated in our room!
Character of hotel & staff
Small bar area
Location of hotel
Room looked a little tired and could do with a new carpet.
Small bedroom, bathroom dated
The big warm fire in the shared lounge. Historical features within the hotel. Very clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Wifi only accessible in the shared lounge. The arm chair in the bedroom had fabric arms which was worn.
Excellent food. Friendly staff. Ideal location.
Fellow guests in the room above trekking across their room in boots in the early hours.
Carpark, breakfast, rooms.
No wifi in rooms, tough to get access to the building during weekend nights.
The hotel is very homely and welcoming, with a big roaring log fire on arrival. It's not ultra modern with all mod cons but traditional and comfortable, just like home.
Location,convenience and historical connections.
Decoration and furnishings a little out of date
The quaintness of the hotel. If you are expecting a modern hotel with modern facilities, then don't stay at the Lion, but it was very quiet and comfortable for our one night stay. Very good breakfast.
The shower. No wi-fi in the bedrooms.
The room was very spacious. The manager rang us about the problems promptly.
The decor was in need of an update the beds were very creaky and felt unsafe and this kept us awake most of the night the noise was even heard by the people in the next room. The food was very disappointing and information as to where to eat in the hotel was unclear.
The Darwin Suite, our room. Was beautiful. And the breakfast is gorgeous!
Nothing bad to comment on.
