1. Idea location in city centre 2 Suitable price 3 Comfortable room 4 Kindly staff 5 Old-fashioned charm 6 Car-parking facility The hotel is very old and charming. Unfortunately, that means a long walk and climb to some of the upper rooms such as ours: Room 300. We are both in our mid-eighties and very short of stamina, so we found the walk and climb from Reception a real trial. We should have asked for a more convenient room when booking.

Not anything in reality Room was far too small. I could not get between the wardrobe and the bed without turning sideways and I weigh 9st 10 lbs. The room I was transferred to did not have a mini fridge and I was told that no rooms in the hotel had one. The bathroom seemed to have no space for towel rails so the towels were left folded on the windowsill. The water was warm and not hot. The staff at reception, although polite, were unable to give me clear information for using public transport into town. I felt the hotel had had to modernise but had not really had the space to do so thus it was a bit of a hotch potch.

We most liked the central city and historic location- as well as general and personal interest in the historic Maid's Head. Beyond the central city location, hotel was a little disappointing. The first room we were given had an awful view of the roof and a very loud air conditioning unit. However, the staff when requested did move us to another quieter and more pleasant room.. (Although Friday night in central Norwich is rowdy- something the hotel can't really control.) The room was a little tired eg. Peeling wallpaper in places; grubby nets; dated bathroom. Althought general cleanliness was satisfactory.

The location of the hotel is the main reason for staying here, with shops, restaurants and bars all close by. Good parking availability. I have stayed here a number of times over the last 5-6 years, recently the rooms have been refurbished, however the rooms that face the small courtyard suffer from the constant noise of the air conditioning unit on the roof of the main building, therefore the windows cannot be left open at night, and with no air conditioning in the rooms it gets very hot. The bathroom was tiny and had no extractor fan, so even with the window open everything steamed up when you took a shower!!! Probably will not use this hotel again, which is a shame as it's position is brilliant!

The location was excellent, and we really like the old-fashioned atmosphere - the pictures, the lounge area etc. The breakfast choice was very good. The bed was extremely comfortable, and I liked the fact that an iron and ironing board were available in the room. Service was extremely polite. The room was a little basic,as was the bathroom and why are the lights so dim? It was really difficult to read. Although I have already said that breakfast was excellent, it seemed that everyone staying in the hotel had decided to have breakfast at the same time, so there was a shortage of available food - eggs, fruit, juice etc. Also please update the toasting machine - it had two settings, raw and burned!

The location is excellent. Norwich is a busy and noisy City till the early hours of the morning - make sure you get an inside facing room at the weekend. Restuarant - good food but having to queue for breakfast is not ideal. Rooms - very dissapointing - expected much more from a 4 star hotel.

The hotel is situated in a very good position for exploring the city. There is a stop for the shuttle bus and other buses about 90 yards away. The entrance to the beautiful cathedral is at only 50 yards distance. We had a fascinating tour with a charming and knowledgable guide which is available every hour. There is a wonderful choice of restaurants in easy walking distance but the excellent hotel restaurant should not be overlooked. There is a cosy bar adjoining the restaurant. There are excellent shopping areas within walking distance including the delightful art-deco arcade and an incredible under-cover market. The castle is well worth visiting but it is worth waiting for a guided tour. This is not a complaint but an observation: There are many steps in the hotel which would make it difficult for any handicapped person.

Being close to the City Centre and river. The room was very noisy as extractor fan at back of hotel. Their was not air conditioning or good air ventilation from the windows. The room smelt of whatever was cooking elsewhere in the hotel.

very friendly & efficient staff. good central location, good car parking available very poor sound proofing...for the money would expect significantly more....could hear normal level of conversation in room next door, the baby cries disturbed our sleep. A wedding disco was easily heard....only distance acted as a barrier. Our daughter was on a chair bed with only a thin mattress which she did not find comfortable.

Interesting old building, well-situated next to the Cathedral, with shops etc within easy walking distance. Comfortable lounges, Attractive restaurant with high-quality cuisine, Excellent choice of wines, most available in small and large glasses and half-litres. Good range of bar snacks, room-service and lounge meals. I have stayed here several times and hope to do so again. The bar is quite small and can be crowded at times.

Central location near to many restaurants Breakfast seems a bit disorganised with some selections not available on regular occasions. Whilst I appreciate the historic nature of the hotel, creaky floorboards waking you up each morning isn't too good. I considered a conference meeting room at the hotel- despite one initial enquiry receiving a callback, the other 3 calls did not get a reply until 2 days before all the guests arrive- which makes it a bit late in the day

“The hotel is in an excellent position for exploring the city of Norwich. Right by the Cathedral and shopping areas with plenty of restaurants to choose from if you don't wish to eat in the hotel, although the hotel food is excellent. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. We have stayed here before and would stay here again. ” Sue, Preston Crowmarsh |
