Score from 301 reviews Very good
Staff are polite and friendly. Rooms are good value for money Breakfast is either buffet or menu
No lift and most times no help with luggage
Could do with some refurbishment, modernising furniture in the rooms. At present a little outdated and perhaps some painting.
friendly staff, modern bedroom good breakfast
needs a better choice of wine by the glass. (only one of each colour and all Australian)
open fire.service was good by staff sub standard by Duty Manager at 8pm she had no idea what the soup was or what the desserts of the day were.
Mould in the bathroom, stained valance and dirty skirtings and edges. This made it quite disappointing.
Breakfast was good
Room wasn't made up and bathroom not cleaned. Quality of the bar food wasn't great>
Location is good for travellers. Breakfast was well presented and good quality. Room was clean and nicely presented
Lovely reception, homely yet chic. Clean and comforting first impression of room. Good size and very clean and luxury feel to the bathroom facilities. Shower responsive and great water flow. No complaints whatsoever. Didn't eat here so can't comment on that. Overall highly recommend this hotel and wouldn't hesitate to book again. Thank you
Room service was prompt despite there being a wedding reception
Due to wedding, restaurant venue was moved downstairs and some menu options were unavailable.
The staff were always there to help, they made it feel homely, warm and welcoming.
Plastic sheet on bed
Nothing to dislike
Good value for accomodation, ideal location for the work we had at the University. We would stay here again.
The restaurant/bar is very old school in it's catering for vegetarians, but there is an excellent pub The Swan just 200 yards away.
Pleasant staff. Left phone charger behind. Phoned them and they tracked it down and posted it to me immediately, following up with a phone call to let me know what they had done.
Very near M62 so a lot of traffic noise despite double glazing. Furnishings in room very tired and even more so in bathroom. Bed uncomfortable.
The building and the food. The evening meal in the restaurant was excellent value for money.
The proximity of the M62 spoils the view and is a bit noisy. It is such a shame as the hotel is very good and a change from the identikit chains.
The breakfast was very nice and the staff were very friendly.
The bathroom was disgusting and smelled of wee. The bed was a bit hard making it uncomfortable.
Good Breakfast, friendly staff & ample parking.
The bed in the room (5 since you ask ) was past its sell by date.
not having a box of tissues in the room and no toilet brush!
Easy to find
We had not been informed that a wedding reception was being held there that day which meant the restaurant and bar was unavailable.
Liked the breakfast. Ambience of hotel was good. Quiet and peaceful.
Mattress was not comfy - could feel the springs (and I am not a heavy person). Lighting in room could have been brighter.
Staff friendly and bar food reasonably good.
Needs a bit of a makeover. But not bad.
Staff are very friendly and helpful
Wedding parties make it awkward to use bar facilities ......although do realise this is part of the hotel income
Comfortable bed and nice breakfast.
Nobody on reception on arrival, waited 10 mins with over-spilling wedding guests and children running around in the lobby. Although receptionist very apologetic and friendly, once seen.Room far too hot on arrival, eventually had to close the window due to motorway noise. Nice view of a roof directly outside window. Glad we were going out for the evening, the noise from the wedding downstairs was unbearable. This went on until 02.30hrs, it appears room 42 is above function/bar area, really, really not a good place to have a room! Not blaming the wedding guests, they sounded like they were quite rightly enjoying themselves! No hotel info in room (for example did not know what time breakfast was served). On arrival to breakfast, not greeted by staff/shown to a table. We had to make ourselves known to staff, otherwise we would have missed our breakfast, due to staff quickly clearing away before our eyes (before the end of serving time). Check-out was an un-friendly experience and was not asked if everything was ok or if we had enjoyed our stay. Very disappointed, did not meet our expectations on many levels.
Good location, friendly and helpful staff. A very nice place to stay.
having restaurant & bar in one place, staff very friendly & helpful. The grounds are beautiful & the car parking is bigger than expected.
Only having to walk pass smokers to get to reception
The lady on reception couldn't have been more ready to help.
The executive double room was drafty and unheated. Despite 5hrs notice between checking in and coming back after an evening out, no-one had checked or rectified the lack of heating. We were downgraded to a standard double which was warm. On the surface it looked clean, but it was clear on closer inspection that the room had not been deep cleaned for some while. The amount of dust and dirt could have been ahealth risk. The non-slip mat for the bath ((£11 new?) was old and mildewed. Very disappointing. On arrival there was no-one available to take our luggage, although a member of staff passed us. As a result my husband (78) fell on the stairs and hit his head. We did not report this.
Friendly staff, comfortable room, easy access to Motorway
