Excellent,
Score from 177 reviews
Serving local produce, offering a friendly welcome, efficient service and a pleasantly relaxed atmosphere, this former 18th century inn is ideal for those seeking to explore the Cotswold region. Originally a resting and overnight point for travelers, Cotswold Gateway Hotel still performs the same function, but in a more modern context. It offers the convenience of ample parking in a private parking lot at the rear of the hotel, and a restaurant and bar open daily to both residents and non-residents. Each of the 20 bedrooms has a private bathroom and many useful facilities. A four-poster room and a family room are also available. Whether you try traditional ales in the bar, a freshly brewed coffee in the coffee shop, or a meal in the air-conditioned restaurant, you are sure to enjoy your stay amid beautiful English countryside. I was lucky enough to get upgraded to the four poster bedroom, as they had only one room left when I checked in. It's gorgeous with dark wood and white sheets, and the room is very comfortable. The staff are very helpful, understanding (they were kind enough to help carry the luggage up the stairs) and help give the hotel a comfortable feeling, which it does, comfy and suited to the relaxed environment of the Cotswolds. The restaurant downstairs is excellent too. The locals recommend it, and I sampled their starters which were very satisfying and delicious (lobster bisque and crab salad). Splendid morning spread too, with continental and English versions served, with someone always on hand to ask you if you'd like tea/coffee and toast. Free wifi throughout the hotel, and room service was very prompt, as was kitchen, which originally estimated an hour, but arrived much earlier. Thoroughly a good stay and would come again! There's no lift, so if you do have heavy luggage, you will have to drag yours up the stairs, or ask for assistance, if you're a solo traveller.

The staff made us so welcome, including our 2 year old grandchild. Stuart in reception went out of his was to give us advice on the local area. Location of hotel was great for access to all areas that we wanted to visit. The evening meal was outstanding we were all so full and the staff in the restaurant were great. Breakfast well cooked eat as much as you like Would recommend this hotel. A visit to Cotswolds Safari is worth while great day out.

Great location - we were in the area this time particulary to visit Blenheim Place. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We were given an upgrade to a room with a kingsize bed. Breakfast very good. Bacon and suasage best ever tasted at any other Hotel etc I have stayed at. Excellent value for money on the day. Comes thoroughly recommended. Our room overlooked a very busy roundabout - but having said that we weren't overly disturbed by it. We were on the second floor so quite a lot of steepish stairs to climb. We weren't aware of a lift etc so assuming that being a lovely old coaching house there wasn't one.

Large Car-park. Very good break-fast. Reasonable sized room. One of the worst check-ins experiences suffered for many years - the member of staff was charmless bordering on rudeness. I suspect the words "have a nice stay" didn't ever enter his lexicon. Room was cold due to radiators being turned off during the day.

There was a very friendly atmosphere, all staff were extremely helpful and polite. Our room was excuisite with a four poster bed whaich was very comfortable. The hotel was clean with all the required facilities readily availalble and ample parking. The food was perfectly cooked and presented, all home cooking, the deserts a must. The location was also good being just a short walk to the main street. It was a very pleasant stay and a place we highly recommend, we will return to experience the atmosphere again.
