Score from 278 reviews Very good
In the heart of the peaceful Cotswolds, this 16th-century inn is set beside scenic Ampney Brook with a wood-beamed bar and restaurant. The historic town of Cirencester is just 5 minutes’ drive away.

Good service all around, generally Excellent restaurant service second night
Poor breakfast service first morning - neglected for coffee, etc. Remedied for next morning, service had drastically improved.
Staff are fantastic
Chairs & sofas in communal bar area are extremely uncomfortable. They were changed when the refit was done last year. This was a big & probably very expensive mistake!!
Such a beautiful hotel! Staff were always happy to help, room was lovely and the view was even better. Would definitely stay here again
The pool ,steam room ,the Gym the room and the food all good..wk
Bar was expensive..
Staff. V smiley and helpful
Staff, food and beer range, strong wifi, good parking, tranquil location
Finding out that booking online is much cheaper! Somewhat pricey meals
Gym and spa facilities excellent.
Location and immediate impression excellent
Radiator in the bedroom unable to turn down.
Good sized room, quiet until the morning staff began crashing around next door at 7am.
Breakfast not included making the overall price expensive for what it was. There are better hotels locally for this money.
Location, Cleanliness, Friendly Staff, access to major roads,
Comfortable bar and eating area.
Difficult getting a drink after hours even if it is just a coke. Nobody about.
The ambience is wonderful and the aesthetic quality of the building and grounds top class. This is the most wonderful relaxing place. This is absolutely one of mine and my daughter's (she is 23) favourite hotel. We love the bedrooms, the pool, the lounge area and the games room! All so lovely.
Service in the restaurant was always friendly but somewhat unattentive...the first night after dinner I had to finally go to the desk and ask someone to take an order for dessert as no one even looked in our direction for over 20 minutes even after we had been given menus. There were virtually no other customers at this time..staff were just not that attentive. At breakfast the following morning no one ever came to offer us coffee or tea for the entire duration of breakfast...no one even came near enough for me to ask them. It was very quiet that morning. In the end I got up and went to the desk again and asked for coffee. I was served a not full jug of coffee almost immediately, the manager (I think) seemed a bit annoyed that I had asked and the coffee was luke warm and there was only an almost empty milk jug on the table. So I had one cup of luke warm coffee ad one half cup of almost black coffee...I couldn't be bothered any more by that point. This is the only thing at all I was not so delighted about.
An excellent breakfast in beautiful surroundings. The view from our room was to die for. One of the best in the country.
The bathroom could have been better and cleaner.
The reception staff were very pleasant and it's not a bad place to stay for a night.
After working solidly since Christmas, I thought I would treat myself with an overnight stay in a nice hotel whilst I was away on business. When I arrived at 10.45pm I found that my booking had not been made. Luckily, they had a spare room. They said this was more likely to be a problem caused by Booking.com! The place looked closed and, when I asked the only member of staff (other than the receptionist) who was on duty if I could have a drink from the bar, he abruptly replied: "I can allow you to have one, as I've cashed up". Luckily that was all I wanted. I then got to my room and it was cold. I felt like an unwanted guest, rather than a welcome customer. The website hypes up the hotel to be many things, but the one thing it doesn't say is that it's really a glorified Premier Inn on the banks of a disused gravel pit.
The staff are excellent and all engage you in discussions to make you feel welcome. Surprise to find swimming pool which was a bonus as I booked at last minute
Struggled to Sleep due to rain bouncing off the windows and decking.
Friendliness clean good atmosphere great leisure facilities definitely would visit again
Quite expensive for snacks n drinks
I did like the meal that we had in the bar in the evening. The room was big and spacious and we had a nice view of the lake.
We were very disappointed to find out that the pool and the spa was closed on the Monday of our stay. This has not been mentioned to us at the time of booking. The meal we had in the Old Boathouse was lukewarm, although when we mentioned this to the manager he offered us a refund on the meal which we weren't expecting.
Lovely spacious rooms and clean
Excellent staff and nice location.
Very big hotel, pool far too small. My meal at The Boathouse was poor and following complaint was taken off the bill.
Great location Good room
A hotel based in the heart of the Cotswolds and me and my girlfriend loved it! Staff were really professional and despite it being really busy were efficient and polite. The Hotel room had a view of the lake and was very clean. It was one of the best we have stayed in. Food was fantastic and plenty of choice at breakfast. 10/10 from us.
comfortable and well-run. Exactly as described.
The hotel is placed in a lovely location but it's more of a travel lodge type hotel.
Promised a upgrade to a room with balcony and extras when we got there this was not the case!!
The meal in the restaurant was of a very high quality
Signage to the hotel entrance was poor. We came through the visitors centre whose parking area was full of pot holes
