Hawkwell is a peaceful country house beside the River Thames, 2 miles from Oxford city centre. It has a 3-acre garden and serves modern British cuisine in Iffley Blue Restaurant.
Score from 678 reviews Very good

Off Oxford High Street and opposite Magdalen College, this 17th-century converted coaching inn has an AA Rosette brasserie and bar. Oxford’s main shopping district is 10 minutes’ walking distance.
Score from 391 reviews Good
It's an excellent location just north of the parks, don't have to deal with Oxford's nightmare traffic system to get to.
Older and more dated than I expected. Mold in bathroom. Staff not great at responding at check in. Asked for a taxi and it was quite late and staff didn't take initiative to help enough when it was late. I had to call them (taxi company) back myself to keep from missing my bus to Heathrow. More
Location great. Living room was lovely and relaxing.
the staff were very helpful and friendly. the hotel has a very pleasant feel to it: classic without being oldfashioned.
A bit expensive
Location close to math institute Cleanliness historical building All staff are very welcoming
If there is construction it should start after 9:30 and you should never place someone in the room severely affected by the noise
Great location lots of staffing in the breakfast area that are courteous and helpful. Great food
Window wouldn't open. Fan offered by staff was already in the room - clearly problem with window not new. Stay in many European hotels &, for £150, I would expect nicer room, toiletries. Chair tatty, room small, fine for cheaper room but not for that price.
Breakfast should be included in the price
Nice place, close to town. Easy and free Parking
The hotel staff where very helpful.our bedroom was large and clean.
The standard and location of the hotel.
Some renovation in upper units led to our water being turned off, so we had to move rooms, and we had a pretty squishy mattress.
Pretty good location for downtown Oxford, just a touch out of the center of town. Cute old building, quiet. Night manager was very helpful.
room small, tired, dirty, no air conditioning and window would not open. No lift to 3rd floor this is supposed to be a 4* hotel. It is definitely not. Paid £150 and would not pay £50 for the room I was given
Trainee receptionist who managed to get me another room when the main receptionist was extremely unhelpful
A bit overpriced for what you get - no free breakfast!
Easy to find and easy to park, 15-20 mins stroll from town centre
It's convenient location for the university. It was also quiet and comfortable.
It's a matter of individual preference, but I found our mattress far too soft.
Staff friendliness; location; cleanliness.
shower is not stable.
although it is not in the city center of Oxford, it is very convinient to walk there, around 10 mins walking distance. the hotel looks very nce in an well protected old building. fantastic food!
The dining room/kitchen could use a more systematic approach. Waiting times and order errors are not uncommon.
Cheerful, polite & helpful staff. Pleasant house & decor
The Food was too bland.
Accomodations and friendly staff
The bed was rather too firm, this was the only thing we didn't like.
We had a very pleasant overnight stay. Attractive decor and all very clean. Free car parking. It was an easy walk into town, 15 or 20 minutes.
Over slept in the afternoon , whiched meant we nearly missed dinner . However the staff directed us to the bar area & served us dinner in the lovely bar area which was more then pleasant
poor lighting in my bathroom and the shower screen was broken so the water went all over the floor
Staff were excellent; breakfast was lovely with lots to choose from; free parking; cleanliness and facilities offered at the hotel
Poor wi-fi connection in more remote rooms, despite paying for upgraded speed (which made no difference). Unpleasant attitude from a staff member upon arrival (although others made up for this later during the stay). Uncomfortable beds (mattresses too soft). Small rooms (much bigger on a previous stay).
Staff mostly very helpful; great breakfasts and an enjoyable dinner. Good location, ample parking.
No lifts. 3 flights of stairs everytime we went to the apartment. Thin walls.
The staff were pleasant and helpful & the food was excellent. Easy walking access to the centre of Oxford ( 1000m +/- ) though frequent buses available if required.
Not good value for money. Decor is out of date and I think gives negative impression.
Single room felt like a cupboard. Cramped and very average. Not worthy of a 4 star rating. At best an average 3 star.
Proximity to Town Centre.
