Just metres from Canterbury’s medieval West Gate, this charming building dates back to 1403. A former coaching inn, it offers free Wi-Fi and free parking, 2 minutes’ walk from the city centre.

Room was very clean.
Staff were not very helpful and very rude. Would not stay there again or recommend the hotel. Room was over a function room so very very noisy until midnight. Breakfast was very nice but not worth the money and the wait was very long just to get a cup of tea. Again restaurant staff were very rude! Over all not worth the money
Amazing location, great facilities and professional, friendly staff. Very clean!
Wifi very poor in our rooms. Hotel needs to get new pillows in all rooms (we booked several rooms).
liked the basket of treats in room very comfortable bed
room was a bit tatty and could have done with a coat of paint didnt like having to pay extra for breakfast- should have been included in price bathroom could have been bigger
The hotel is very good for everything and was perfect but….
This was the noisiest hotel I ever had the misfortune to stay in. The yobs in the High Street were shouting all night until at least 2.30am. I have never had to ring reception to call the police until I stayed here. The receptionist was very friendly but confirmed my fears that the Police do not exist in Canterbury weekdays so no relief there then. The the baby in the next room started gurgling (not crying) at 6am. If you have to stay here demand a room at the back. You have been warned!!!
Lots of cupboard space, large twin beds. Helpful over parking.
Booked a superior room and got one by the lift which was extremely noisy and prevented sleeping. Also street noise loud. En-suite small with no-where to put toiletries down. Despite staying in the hotel were unable to eat in the restaurant - perhaps keeping some spaces for residents would be good?
Very good location, pleasant rooms well equipped and decent size rooms. Comfortable beds. Overall a very good hotel and a pleasant stay. Efficient service.
The service is good and efficient yet rather impersonal. The restaurant is closed on Sundays. Personally not keen on carpeted bedroom - that was the case in the standard double room.
Good position. Good parking. Very helpful young man who immediately let you in and out of the garage.
Basic facilities. No comfortable chair . One only dining room type chair. Noise at night from nightclub until well after 3am. Next night when we got the window shut a bit better. Bathroom nicely and modernly furnished but shower difficult to get in and out of because of fixed panel.
GPS couldn't find the place. Parking a bind. Ignored by the staff when I wanted to get my car in the pouring rain. Pseud champagne bar. Shabby.
Loved the location of the hotel, central to everything, great staff, great room service, overall very happy with my decision of choosing abode
The wifi connection was really weak! If there ever was one
The Abode Hotel is in a prime position. Close to everything. They have plenty of parking and the rooms were very comfortable. The bar and restaurant were busy so there was a good atmosphere.
Liked everything !
Good location, pretty good breakfast
WiFi could not be used to update a Kindle because of need for a password. No Radio 3 or 4 available. This is surprising for an hotel of this presumed quality.
Complimentry basket of local goods is a nice touch. Excellent value for the price Perfect location and we really enjoyed the champagne bar
Beautiful room. Welcoming and helpful staff.
24hr bar did shut early. We'd drank too much anyway!
We booked this at the last minute to attend an open day at University of Kent. I wasn't expecting too much from a last minute booking having done several recently but what a surprise. The accommodation was beautiful, fabulous complimentary snacks, toiletries and additional extras such as dressing gowns, slippers... The guy on reception was incredibly helpful providing maps and information on where to eat and places to see if we had the time. Unfortunately we didn't but would love to return for a weekend to sightsee and would definitely book here.
Nothing to not like, only regret we hadn't booked two nights.
Breakfast service was particularly good, with best cappuccino since leaving Australia! Complimentary goodies basket was a nice touch.
comfy large bed, champagne bar
Paying for parking Paying extra for breakfast
Very clean hotel.
No fridges in the rooms.
Great location. Nice clean room. Private parking.
I missed a comfy chair and small table in the room.
Quick & easy to get to walking from The train station was a 10 min walk, wifi included, hotel restaurant was fabulous for dinner, and breakfast. Loved walking out the front door into the middle of the historic town. We were able to easily walk to the train station east for an excursion, as well as all over the city. Hotel staff were very accommodating and helpful.
Price of drinks in the bar, but they seemed par for Canterbury.
Near to the cathedral and restaurants the Hotel is very nice. the staff are very polite and helpful. we had a very nice stay and will recommend the hotel to Family and Friends.
The Breakfast was an extra Eleven pounds Fifty and this did not include tea or coffee.
We stayed at the abode for our wedding night, we had booked 6 weeks in advance for a middle tier room, however on arrival I was informed that we had been upgraded to the best room in the hotel free of charge!!! We had the most perfect night. Thank you!!!
Location and cleanless
The staff were all very helpful and friendly (apart from one lady on reception ) and smartly dressed
We were given room 125 which had an extractor fan outside the window which was extremely noisy. I complained about it and was told they were nearly full and the only other room was at the back which would also be noisy as it was freshers week and the room overlooked the pubs they used! However they said the fan would go off about 11pm and not come on again until 7-7.30am. It woke us up at 5.20am. Also the room had frosted windows so there was very little light. I think the noise and lack of light is quite unacceptable for a 4 star hotel. We complained again the next day and were eventually given another room. When we left the following day they did take £50 off the bill.
The staff were absolutely committed to what they do best. The comfort was spot on. I was on business and had no real time to have a look around Canterbury. We will definitely stay again. Also food & staff were excellent next door in the pub.
couldn't fault it
The location was ideal for visiting the cathedral and the rest of the city. Air conditioning offered an added bonus in the rooms which were comfortable and well appointed. The restaurant food was exceptional and consistent with the high quality we experienced at the Abode in Exeter.
We were disappointed that the towel rail did not work in the bathroom but the staff could not be more helpful.
