Just metres from Canterbury’s medieval West Gate, this charming building dates back to 1403. A former coaching inn, it offers free Wi-Fi and free parking, 2 minutes’ walk from the city centre.

Set in quaint gardens, The Victoria Hotel offers traditional home-cooked food and free Wi-Fi. The hotel is a 15-minute walk from Canterbury centre, and just under a mile from Canterbury Cathedral.
Score from 748 reviews Good
A short walk from Canterbury city centre and its world-famous Cathedral, this privately-owned hotel is set within a Victorian townhouse, amid 2 acres of well-maintained grounds.
Score from 367 reviews Very good
food was amazing, value for money, staff and accommodation was top class.
drinks in the bar was quiet expensive, I had a glass of red wine and that was £8.95, but that was only negative for me.
Over priced for the quality of accommodation, the extent of services and level of staff.
Helpful staff Lovely décor Free upgrade! Stunning room
Difficult to find by car Late night noise from revellers outside
Clean and convenient
Directions to the hotel by car are not sufficiently detailed. Thank goodness for the additional parking area which was essential.
Location and hotel
Locaion - in the centre
Rooms very small, extremely noisy, everything said and done next door can be heard.

confusion by staff when paying at hotel bedrooms too hot, poor temp control
There was an air of efficiancy about the hotel, and all members of staff that I encountered were bright, helpful and friendly. There were two small problems which were promptly sorted out. (see opposite)
A bit disappointed that when we first entered our room there was a double bed and not two singles as I had asked for. This may have been online problems but it was stipulated on my printout. The other problem was a blocked sink. Both were sorted out quickly and efficiently but it sort of put a slight dampner on things.
Attractive lobby and bedrooms. Modern decor in rooms.Night light in bedroom and bathroom. Fitness center. Good bar and restaurant.
Bathroom is entirely visible to a person in the bedroom:for example, the bath faces the bed with no intervening door. Excessive use of plate glass around bed is a hazard. Light in wardrobe too faint to be of use.
The hotel failed to supply an assured disabled parking space when it was promised by a staff member before booking. Thankfully a regular space was free in the carpark but it was far from ideal, narrow and requiring an uncomfortable walk up and down steep-ish slopes etc.
Outstanding location Reasonably convenient parking Comfortable bed Wifi easy to connect and good connectivity Well fitted bathroom with instant hot water Comfortable bar area Restaurant food was generally very good quality (but see comments on quantity and price).
Two bulbs in bedroom did not work - despite arrival before 17.00 competent staff were not available to replace the bulbs until the following morning. Service charge of 12% added to every meal and drink irrespective of service level. Extra charge for expresso coffee at breakfast was extremely petty. £10 per night for parking was excessive. Restaurant food quantities were microscopically small, especially the monkfish, and represented poor value for money.
I like location of the hotel, near to places of interest that we visited. The bed is very comfortable & cleanliness of the room is not bad at all.
Disappointed with our lunch at M Caine's restaurant not because of the portions served but mainly the tastes which was very ordinary. Choice of food at breakfast time very limited, too.
The location, the design of the room, the breakfast.
Outside if our room was a big ventilation fan, it covered all the window. It made the room a windowless room. The sound from this fan was incredible and kept me awake most of the night. I think it would be a good idea to place some earplugs in that room.
Location, very helpful staff
Cocktail bar really good but put service charge on your bar Bill!
Not value for money, room small for £150 a night, room at front of hotel on high street very noisy with students until 2/3 in morning.
The desk staff, particularly Ricky, were attentive, informative and pleasant. The car parking facilities were very useful and the large car park was kept locked. The staff were very quick to come out to unlock the car park when we needed to get in and out.
Not enough ordinary tea bags
Location and champagne bar are great
Bed too soft, bathroom fan noisy and the bath is pretty small
The only thing that let the amazing hotel down was the pillows. The bed was very comfortable but the pillows where horrible to sleep on.
The beds was incredible... Went straight home and googled where I can get (and save) for you. Most amazing sleep. Great knowledgable barstaff and good cocktails - staff were great all round.
Breakfast was so disappointing. Really poor quality meat and the egg was inedible - the yolk was grey. I cancelled our evening meal and breakfast the next morning a visited a local Italian for a takeaway breakfast in bed on the Sunday on the back of the experience and was disgusted to be charged for a poor cappuccino. My only gripe. Everything else was amazing.
Noise from disco i
staff very helpful
Rude letter through the door claiming that we had been smoking in the room, when we had not, when challenged they claimed they had put the same letter through several doors. They also charged £10.00 a day for parking on a piece of waste ground, which could not be described as being secure.
It's a lovely central location but of course don't expect it to be peaceful on rowdy nights in Canterbury. Rooms are fairly spacious.
The member of staff who dealt with me could have benefitted from a course in charm and how to deal with customers. My room was next to a building site and no one warned me. There was hammering and drilling. My TV was not working when I arrived.
Undoubtedly the outstanding quality of the food. The restaurant was really excellent - service was good and efficient and the breakfasts were outstanding.
The attitude of staff on reception. The hotel was difficult to find. We arrived in the dark when it was raining heavily. We were given poor directions to park the car. We were given very little help. When eventually we had failed to find the hotel car park we were rescued by the hotel manager who could not have done more to help.
very poor service. woken at 7AM by drilling from work next door, poor response from staff, had to ask for room change, room not services, no phone, no tea bags ... v poor overall, not worth the money
