Just metres from Canterbury’s medieval West Gate, this charming building dates back to 1403. A former coaching inn, it offers free Wi-Fi and free parking, 2 minutes’ walk from the city centre.
Score from 1004 reviews Very good
Would certainly stay there again, great position to visit and explore Canterbury.
Difficult to find when you have a vehicle as access is via a pedestrian mall.
Paying for car parking
Friendly helpful team, large room, very comfortable bed! Fresh coffee in the room. Ideally located to see Canterbury - everything is only a five minute walk away - including the station.
Cocktail bar was more like an old fashioned gentleman's club!! Liven it up please - the cocktails are fabulous.
No hot water No response from management about hot water problem
Location in centre of City. Parking (£10 per 24hrs) Overall appearance of room.
Bed was very soft which I found uncomfortable.

Free Wi-fi Broken, staff aren't overly trained, it's expensive for what you get.
Our room was very spacious, clean, warm and comfortable. The bed was sensational, absolutely huge and so cosy! Staff were friendly and helpful, and we were given an upgrade as it was my boyfriend's 30th. An absolutely great stay all round!
Location is excellent. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Didn't get chance to use many of the facilities however I'm sure they were good also.
There was nothing to 'not like'..!
The tall young man at reception was very helpful. Eager to ensure all was okay
I had asked a housekeeping supervisor and then a housekeeping staff to clean my room in the morning. I went out for 4 hours, came back and my room was still not cleaned! I had to wait for 45 minutes. Also, the bed was very uncomfortable. My sides still hurt 1 day later.
Alex (front of house) couldn't do enough to ensure our stay was nothing short of excellent. He arranged secure parking for our car, arranged a complementary upgrade in celebration of my birthday and the room even had a birthday balloon in it. Little things like that meant our stay was personalised and I felt special. Thanks Alex and Abode.
Very pleasant room and lovely staff. Excellent evening meal in the hotel restaurant. A very relaxed environment
Not eating in the main restaurant on the Sunday evening.
Location and the January discount made this a first choice. The staff were very nice and quickly changed our room when we were not satisfied with the first one.
Room layout felt a little cramped in areas. More shelving in the bathroom would have been nice. I would have preferred sockets next to the bed. The kettle leaked and the aircon rattled.
Poor wi fi
It was a fab way to do my Xmas shopping without all the hassle
Pick a back room unless you like hearing all the street theatre
No porters, no business center, little on offer for room service after hours, no minibar, 12% service charge
Style and position
No discount - should be some for a business and loyalty bonus
l like the size of the rooms and the bed oh comfortable
in the morning when I was sleeping one of the staff opened the door without knock in :/
The location is perfect, the room rather larger than I was expecting for this price range/location and all the facilities were very clean.
The heating system was rather loud. It didn't bother us much but I can see how lighter sleepers would find it a problem.
+ excellent location, close to the station and cathedral + friendly staff
- noise in the street - no phone in the room to call reception
Fraught time of year. Much fluster among staff but it served the purpose of a stay to attend the Kings school Carol Service.
Very friendly, highly professional service with a warm welcome. This is a stylish hotel made exceptional through the personable manner and willing attentiveness of all the staff. We had a Most Enviable room on 3rd floor (do check out the room categories on the hotel's website as there is a wide choice). Ours was wonderfully spacious and well-appointed in a classy modern style with massive subtly lit walk-in bathroom and shower room. The bed was simply huge and amazingly comfortable. You do get what you pay for and in our opinion these rooms are superb value. The County restaurant is contemporary, bright and airy. The tasting menu with matching wine is glorious. There is a small gym right at the back of the hotel with decent rowing machine, running machines, cross trainers and bikes. The buzz of the hotel centres on the magnificent champagne bar. The attractions of retail therapy and Canterbury's medieval beauty are literally outside the door.
Fair to say that the views from the room, like the pre-programmed Freeview TV channels, can be a bit limited
Loved the fire in the bar. Location was great and had a great nights sleep in a very comfortable bed.
A little noisy for our liking.
Staff were excellent. Even on a busy New Eve's, always ensured we were happy.
Shower did not have hot water straight away but probably expected on a busy New Eve when everybody else is trying to get ready.
