Breakfast was good as was the breakfast waiter Arrived at 8 pm - no food - not even a sandwich. I was pointed in the direction of the local chip shop! Dreary decor, sttaff (other than breakfast waiter) had no idea of service. This hotel was good many years ago - Iit is now dreadful.

Very basic hotel with very basic rooms. Sunday Breakfast finishes at 9.00 am and check out is early too. No good at all for a relaxing week- end break.Unless you are tradesperson in need of a low budget stay-over aviod this one.

It is located on the main road, so there is too much noise all the night. There is no hot water at night and in the morning. In the ground floor, there is a bar, the exhaust fan is roaring all the night. It was a horrible experience. The manager of this hotel was extremely rude and bad. When we checked in at 17:30, it seemed all was ok. However, at the late night, They awake us and told me to pay more money although young child is free with existing bed according to their room rule. They told us to go if we dislike the hotel and they would not refund the money. It was late night, where could we go? They charged us extra money (42.5 pounds) for my young child (we did not have extra bed), but even for an adult with extra bed, the fee was only 31 pounds. I would never stay there again nor recommend it to anyone.

The staff were great, very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were simple, but clean with decent quality linen and towels. I enjoyed my stay. It was just a good down to earth place to put your head for the night with, most importantly, friendly and competent staff. The low price did not imply any lack of service. I have stayed in many hotels in the past year from New York and Ethiopia and somehow this came across as one of the best for friendliness and value for money.

Well located in the centre of Kendal by the railway station, the County hotel is fine for a one night stopover. The County hotel is pretty basic in terms of amenities but there are good bars and restaurants in easy walking distance.

The room was very clean and there was plenty of milk to make drinks of tea or coffee. What was used was replaced each day. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was adequate and served promptly. I didn't use the restaurant nor sample any of the entertainment provided. The bed was comfortable enough but I prefer a duvet to a blanket. I was there over a Bank Holiday weekend so traffic noise was tolerable but I suspect it could be noisy at other times if you open the window. I had difficulty getting anyone to answer the phone when I needed to contact them prior to my arrival.

It was warm and clean A little odd to have no chef ie no food or bar we saw no staff other than a check in guy who imediatley went home, which seemed strange. However it wasnt a problem everything was fine, it just felt odd.

The service from the staff was excellent, we were able to keep our room past usual check-out times (although this was only as there was NO bookings for the following evening!). The breakfast wasn't the best and seemed to be stuck in the past in terms of layout and options. Decor of the room requires an update; it appears that the (lack of) staff are fighting a losing battle (not their own fault) to run everything smoothly.

The location I believe that the hotel is currently under a temporary manger, if so this explains a lot. I felt that the rooms, although adequate, are getting tired and are in need of some tlc. Some fellow guests arrived the night before only to be told that there were only bed and breakfast facilities on that evening, naturally they were not very happy as they could have stayed in a bed and breakfast for less money. The front of desk attitude was a tadge 'John Cleesey' and at breakfast on Sunday morning the service was very slow. This was down to there being only one waiter on duty in spite of the fact that the hotel was quite full. This has the potential to be an excellent hotel, I hope that the new manager has some enthusiasm and good customer care skills. I visit Kendal about eight Saturdays per year so if the County hotel want my custom I will expect some improvements.....or a reduction in price!!!!!!!

Needed a nice clean comfy hotel in middle of Kendal. This was exactly what we found. No parking however but ask the hotel before you arrive for best car park to suit what you need...there is lots of nearby parking.
