A larger and more comfortable room than I was expecting with extremely good quality bedding. Shower in en-suite totally adequate but showing its age a little.

Staff and rooms were excellent. Ensuite small but adequate. Food (in bar, in restaurant and breakfast) in the hotel was excellent. Location excellent for exploring the whole of the borders. Mattress in room was very soft and uncomfortable. A few bottles of proper real ale at the bar would have been nice.

It is clear the owners have gone out of their way to remodel what was probably a rundown hotel. In this they have largely succeeded. Boutique in style, it is clean, very friendly and with an imaginative menu, serves delicious food. Hard to be critical but here goes: 1.Street light right outside our bedroom on all night.(guess we should have asked for a room at the rear) 2.Traffic noise. ( guess we should have asked for a room at the rear, again) 3. Mattress sagged horribly in the middle. Bed was like a water bed - when one partner moved the other almost flew into the air !! 4. Prices for drinks were far from cheap.

Service was fine but the best point was the restaurant which offered good quality at a reasonable price Rooms were not good, basic, tired and not well furnished. The bathroom was very small indeed ad the shower had low water pressure

Had a really lovely stay here. Can tell the new owners are in the process of changing things much for the better. The room we had was huge, beds very comfy with quality linens, shower room small but spotless and quality toiletries. Didn't eat at bistro but in the pizzeria and it was delicious and very reasonably priced. Staff couldn't do enough for us. A member of Johansen's Conde Nast which stands for top range accommodation and it's obvious to see they are getting there. Fabulous break for the price. a minor complaint, but wifi was not free. However at £4.99 a day was cheaper than most hotels which do charge.

It was a pleasant surprise for a business trip in a fairly "remote" area for such things to find a "boutique" hotel with excellent food. A restful environment after a very long drive

Warm welcome from the owner, all staff throughout the hotel were very pleasant and helpful. Scottish breakfast was well cooked with good quality ingredients. The Lounge of the County Hotel itself is the nicest place in the town to sit for a drink by a long way and they have St Mungo’s lager (from the Glasgow-based West Brewery) on tap, which is a welcome change from the usual Tennent's or Stella. The hotel offers a central location in the town, but unfortunately Selkirk itself has very few redeeming features. Our room was fine and there has clearly been some attempt to modernise what is obviously a very old building. Small but clean and functional bathroom with nice toiletries. In conclusion, if you really need to stay in Selkirk then this is your best option. Low-power, domestic electric shower. Single glazing and proximity to the main road means front-facing rooms have to put up with some noise of passing traffic. Sadly, Selkirk is pretty run down with a handful of shops (all of which bar the Co-Op were closed at 4pm on a Saturday afternoon) and several boarded-up bars and restaurants. I appreciate this isn't the hotel's fault but if you are looking for somewhere nice to walk around do yourself a favour and go to Jedburgh, Peebles or pretty much any other town in the Scottish Borders.
