unique experience the castle grounds at night are truly blissful.. convenient and comfortable sleeping
Setting and location
No chair in very small bedroom; no guest lounge either so bed was fine for a night's sleep but how do I relax in the evening.
Excellent spacious room in beautiful surroundings. So peaceful and relaxing.
Would have liked fresh milk provided in room. Although Staff in Fairfax were very helpful and provided me with some.
The ambience and environment were very good. Staff very helpful, lots of things to do for people of all ages.
Because we had the windows open overnight the noise of the nearby motorway was very noticeable. The menu in the restaurant was quite restricted.
Great atmosphere and free access to all facilities
Room was a little small,
Big room comfortable bed, huge bathroom overlooking gardens. Fabulous views overlooking castle and moat from the restaurant.
The castle is beautiful the amenities are brilliant.
Blind cords No bath mats or hand rails Smell of sewage in childrens play area Restaurant times do not fit with young diners Staff not bothered about negative feedback No keys to the castle
We loved having the castle grounds to ourselves in the evening
Breakfast was a little poor but still edible.
Location of rooms. Choice of eateries. Staff. Ambience
Can't think of anything!
We had 1 double room for us and 1 single room for my mum. The reception people were very helpful and informative. the double room was spacious and bathroom was comfortable.
The sigle room was a bit too small and with just a view of parking.
Everything about it. Location, setting, staff, food.
To stay in the most beautiful location, have access to the grounds for the evening and a wonderful meal overlooking the moonlite castle, just can't be beaten!
Great views from our bedroom window The sound of the geese calling! Friendly staff on reception who arranged delivery of our take out supper The walks around the castle and grounds
Superb customer service and facilities. The rooms in the Maidens Tower were first class.
A beautiful environment
Staying in the grounds of a castle and the fantastic gardens, difficult to find a nicer location, rooms well equipped and tastefully decorated. Lots of bottled water.free entry to castle and reinactment festival on the weekend we stayed. Staff very helpfull.
Not much to dislike, the only thing we found was you are staying in an old building and sound proofing is not as a new building, we had the top floor unfortunately we seamed to be over inconsiderate guests who could not shut doors with out banging them, even at 5 in the morning.
The super king size bed was very comfy.
The double room we got apparently was a special room for disabled people. The toilet seat was too high and there was some lights in the room all night. We are not very happy about it. Also we found a giant spider in the toilet.
Staff was all very pleasant and helpful. Room was fine - good sized bathroom. Hallways/stairs need painting.
The restaurant was not clean. A table we had one evening had a piece of tomato on it when we sat down and it was still there the next morning! The furniture was abysmally run down. Breakfast was a buffet and clearly sat out for hours. Creamer, table, juice dispenser, etc. all had stuff on them - clearly not cleaned. We did not eat in the restaurant/dining room after the second meal. I highly question the hygiene there.
The gardens and estate without other people
The medieval event was the reason we stayed and we were not dissapointed. It was well layed out, organised and entertaining. The grounds and castle were excellent and beautifully maintained and the staff were very friendy.
Nothing really. We both had a nice stay.
Nothing not to like.
The weather.....very wet ☔️☔️☔️
We actually stayed in Broomfield Cottage. It was spectacular-all the charm of an old cottage with modern amenities.
Lovely room and view. Fantastic to have access to the grounds.
Walking round the grounds when the castle was not open to the public was amazing, We didn't use the restaurant in the evening, but the breakfast in there was very good. It was good to be able to easily get back to the car during the day without a long walk to the public car park.
Would have liked to visit the Maiden's Tower (best wishes to the couple getting married in there!) There could be a few more seats around the grounds just to sit and admire the view.
