Craig-y-Dderwen Riverside HotelBetws-y-Coed, LL24 0AS Betws-y-coed (Show map) Excellent, Score from 34 reviews“The setting by the river in a lovely valley was just as I had hoped it would be. The staff were very attentive and the food was wonderful. The location is perfect for exploring the Snowdonia National Park and it is not far from the North Wales coastal areas - good access either way on the excellent A5.”

Amid 16 acres, surrounded by calm woodland slopes on the banks of the River Conwy, this Victorian country house offers a unique location in the village, with an emphasis on peace and quiet. Craig-y-Dderwen is a traditional hotel in the small, but popular village of Betws-y-Coed. Just a 5-10 minute walk from the village center, Craig-y-Dderwen is the only hotel situated away from the busy main road. With free parking, this is an excellent place to relax and plan your stay in the Snowdonia National Park. Most rooms have beautiful views of either the Conwy Valley or the flowing river. The Riverside Restaurant also overlooks the river and offers AA Rosette-quality cuisine. A choice of bars means you can either relax beside a real log fire, or overlook the 16 acres of hotel grounds. Staff were very helpful and polite. Room was spacious, quiet and well appointed with excellent views. Car park was more than adequate size for a large car to park easily, and the hotel's proximity to both local facilities and attractions in the region made it ideal for a base from which to explore the area of North Wales. We only ate there one night but the level of cuisine seemed excellent.

The riverside location (we were upgraded to a Riverview room, which made it all the more pleasant) and the soothing sound of the fast flowing River Conwy.

The staff at the hotel were extremely kind & very helpful. We had nice conversations with several members of staff and the person at the check- in desk was great in helping us with information about the area. These are the things that make a holiday enjoyable and the staff at this hotel definitely played their part in making our weekend special. The gardens are very pretty and the location is very convenient for reaching Snowdon. The hotel looks very grand in the pictures (which is why we chose it) but in fact it has a slightly "tired" feel to it, as if it has seen better days. It could use a face-lift in several areas and definitely needs an injection of style! The location also looks fantastic along the river, but in reality it is very close to a busy road (actually two busy roads) so if you expect to sit on the terrace and listen to the sounds of nature you will be disappointed. The rooms are well soundproofed however, so in the room you didn't hear the road, but our room was located over a generator or something and there was noise from this all night (not very bad, but a bit annoying). The standard rooms are also quite small and if you want one of the bigger rooms, one with a view of the river or a terrace, you have to pay a lot more. I have stayed in hundreds of hotels and didn't think this was very good value for money.

The hotel stands beside the river Conwy which for us was a huge attraction. We were able to watch dippers, mergansers and other birdlife as we had our meals! The doors to our room opened out onto a balcony overlooking the reiver and we could hear the gentle sound of the river at any time we chose.Cuisine at the hotel was superb and there is a comprehensive wine list.Service was excellent - a friendly staff, with a very professional approach to looking after us.

The Hotel is very pleasantly situated next to a river and we liked the views from the conservatory dining room as well as from our room. Its within easy walking distance to the village. All the staff made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble! We look forward to our next break and will without doubt stay at Craig-y-Dderwen again! Although the food was generally very good, I would, however like to suggest the chefs check on the recipe for kedgeree!

Lovely location, very friendly and helpful staff. Enjoyed walking round the vegetable garden drinking a glass of chilled white wine and watching the river. Didn't have a good view from our room. The wine was rather expensive.

Excellent service, hospitality, Resteraunt and food top of the range.....Massive compliments to the chef and bar/resteraunt staff....(Marie waitress and barman at dinner 31/05/2011) Beutifully renovated room, stayed in room 10........... in order to keep up the standard, small details must be addressed: tv channels freezing, chipped/cracked crockery, bathroom mirror cord, .......important that management stay on the ball in order to collect 100% review....£150 A night for this particular room a little bit pricey compared to other hotels around the country I've stayed in but, otherwise delightful experience. The Hotel has everything it takes to be up there with the best, if they stay hot with interior housekeeping and maintanance. Staff however, made up for any minor blips during my stay....Gorgeous!!!!

The food and service were second to none. The chef's love of his cooking skills showed at eevery meal. Lake of big cosy chairs in the lounge to sit in and enjoy a pot of tea. Also no newspapers to pick at.

“Its an ideal location for exploring in the national park with a 15 min drive to Snowden. The hotel was very clean and the staff were all very friendly. I'm not usually a lover of a buffet style breakfast but was surprised, I had a full welsh breakfast and couldn't fault it. Overall a pleasent stay.” Russell, Halstead |
