We turned up after a long day of cycling and were welcomed by friendly staff and a secure place to keep bicycles. Rooms were comfy. Evening food was spot on for a group of hungry cyclists. Breakfast likewise. Well done!
Very well run hotel over such a busy weekend of festival goers. Tim and his team were very friendly welcoming and accommodating. Food was good and very generous sized portions.
Lack of information on local areas for walking and cycling.
Clean comfortable room. Friendly staff.
Strong smell of bleach in the morning put me off my breakfast!
Atmosphere during live music jam
Five star price for basic accommodation and service. Room small and cramped, tired decor, no coathangers, no seats, worn towels, no bathmat, no toiletries, no hair-drier, bathroom wall light broken. Noise from bar went on til after 3am. Breakfast served in bar still redolent of the previous night's jam session Breakfast service lacked appropriate crockery, cutlery and condiments. Tea and coffee was from self service flask on the bar, cold, stewed, undrinkable. Cups but no saucers were available. No side plates. Cold toast propped over the savoury cooked breakfast. No butter - When requested we were invited to forage around in the baskets on neighbouring tables littered around the other tables. Bacon was sour, black pudding leathe rhard at edges. Presentation ethos - greasy spoon. Industry service skills among staff were almost totally lacking.
Staff and hot water, breakfast.
Excellent Staff and Breakfast
Public Bar was a little uncomfortable
We liked the informal and welcoming ambience. The bedroom and en-suite was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay and the owners hospitality. Well worth the per night charge.
Some areas need sprucing up a bit and tidying, and whilst we enjoyed breakfast and nothing was too much trouble, breakfast arrangements generally could be communicated better.
The staff and host were lovely, so friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a lovely location and has a real country pub atmosphere. Breakfast was excellent. I'd really like this hotel to be successful so my negative comments are only me being honest in order to assist the owner so that he knows there are things which other guests might complain about and affect his business.
The room was tiny and could have been much cleaner which was my main issue. The bathroom was small but clean but the beds had dirty marks on the valances which obviously hadn't been washed in while, although the rest of the bedding was clean. There was a general lack of cleanliness along skirting boards and cob webs on the light pendant. The paintwork in the corridors ( doors, skirtings, stairs etc) was also dirty and needed cleaned. The walls in the room we were in were paper thin too and there was no complimentary shower gel, shampoo etc even though this is a two star you would expect these, indeed they probably would be more useful than tea & coffee! A good clean in the hard to reach places is definitely required - if the owner addressed these things the hotel would be fantastic value for money.
Friendly staff good food comfortable bed
Location good for our purposes (hillwalking). Very friendly, helpful and hard working landlord. Good breakfasts. Free music jamming sessions in the evenings. Good beds and hot showers. Good atmosphere in the town.
The hotel is on the shabby side, but that is offset by very reasonable prices.
the owners, friendly and helpful staff. Lovely meal, comfortable bed
great atmosphere and friendly and helpful staff. good vegetarian breakfast !
